| Katy Perry – Firework Lyrics

This song seems to be paying tribute to Alan Ball. The opening stanza she sings about a plastic bag caught in the wind. This is a poignant image from the film American Beauty, which was written by Alan Ball. Then a few lines later she sings "six feet under" which is the name of a television series created by Mr. Ball.
I wonder if she consciously decide to pay tribute to him or if it was a coincidence. |

| The Pains of Being Pure at Heart – Higher Than the Stars Lyrics

I agree with drdoe. However, I think the line "'til you dropped another" possibly refers to ecstasy or some other drug. I feel that the song is about love and drugs as the title and lyric "Higher Than the Stars" alludes to. Perhaps, he doesn't really think he loves her unless he's on drinking and on drugs. He's probably in a very confused state from the chemicals. |

I am listening to this for the first time and I just watched 'Don't Look Now' last week. It blew my mind that I knew what movie the audio clip is from. I had to come here to express my love for the song. |

It's my birthday and all I wanted to do was be alone and listening to this song. Facebook messages from girls I have loved slather my wall. What does it all mean? What is this computer screen? Have I lived the way I should have, have I done too much drugs? Which one's would like to still be friends because I need one to be asleep beside me. Tonight, impossibly tonight. |

It's so funny how much I relate to this song. Near the beginning with the line "This brand new strip mall chews on farmland as we fish for someone to blame". This line just resonates with me as I watch the farming community I grew up in turn into sub-urbs. I am also experiencing the end of a relationship. I constantly ask her why this, why that, why I am not good enough anymore? Why are we better off parting ways? We are holding each other back, she says. The answers always sound the same. |

Beautifully psychedelic. Reminds me of the type of feeling one has under the influence of LSD. "My mind opened up like a valley" and "the sound of a million lights", are very much like the ramblings of a head feeling at peace with the ugly world. Sure terrible shit happens, but it's all worth it. |

Great song on a great album. First time I saw them, this was the song that made me decide to become a fan/ buy there shirt. The part after all the chaos and it breaks into the "fell asleep part" was life changing. |

I like the idea of it being about Terry Fox. This song is tripping me out because I am just realizing I'm not an immortal teenager anymore. I really gotta quit smoking. I want to live as long as I possibly can. Be one of those old people who's gross and their family is scared of them. |

I love how this song lists all types of people.
"12 men broke loose"
"Chief told the people"
"never kissed a girl"
"Father said he'd tell em"
"brother mike"
"sister got raped, so a man got killed"
"local boy went to prison, man's buried on the hill"
"folks went back to normal"
"my mother cried the horror"
"let's go Michael, son, we're taking you home."
It's so chilling when the megaphone calls him by his full name and calls him son. The sad part is that he's actually been in prison longer then he's lived with his parents.
I think all those mentions of family really make this song hit your heartbone harder. It gives it a human touch. This song is so well written it's almost a short story. I would call it 'The Face They Covered'. |

I thought so too, chloroform but the dream is also mentioned in Someone's Trippin' and how he had learned to fly. To most of the songs have dreamy themes. Squirrels has to be about drugs or dreams.. probably both. |

The killer's name is Raskolnikov. With an 'o', not an 'a'. I am actually reading crime and punishment at the moment and while I was at work I heard this song and had an amazing moment.
It also happened to me with Belle & Sebastian. They have a song called 'This is just a modern rock song' where one of the lyrics goes like this:
I'm not as sad as Dostoevsky
I'm not as clever as Mark Twain
I only buy a book for the way it looks
and stick it on the shelf again
Dostoevsky being the author of 'Crime and Punishment'. |

I just finished reading these lyrics while listening to the song and it has turned into something else. It was always too hard to interpret. I am really moved by this song. I thought it was about Elvis Presley until I read the comments. The personality of Elvis the cat is so much like my cat, Socks. |

I really like the line "And the dull pain that you live with isn't getting any duller". I am pretty sure that this is the reason the narrator does drugs. His existence has been marked with a dull pain that he tries to make duller with drugs. |

This song is amazing. It's definetely about an ended relationship. It's sung so coherently at times and full of rage at others.
"You threw the bricks that built this wall"
is an amazing use of words. Just imagine throwing enough bricks to build a wall between you and your partner. |

This song is a definition of rural life. I have never lived in a City and thats the place I most want to live. But this song teaches me that it will never answer any of my lifes questions. It probably will only make me more confused.
