Coheed and Cambria – Chamberlain Lyrics 15 years ago
Possible changes:

"Love hanging this dead man's curtain"
"swinging from gallows perch at dawn"

Also, where does everyone think this song was originally supposed to fit into the track listing? Would it slide between "Guns of Summer" and "Juggernaut"? Appears to be further conversation between Ryan and Marth (SPOILER ALERT: presumably in Marth's chamber before his death).

Snow Patrol – Grazed Knees Lyrics 18 years ago
Also explains the song title. It's a minor stumble in their relationship which has grazed (scraped) their knees, but it's not a permanent wound and is something they can overcome in time.

Snow Patrol – Grazed Knees Lyrics 18 years ago
The song is a story about a guy who gets into a big fight with his girlfriend and they're on the rocks for a bit. One night, he goes out and meets another girl, whom he goes home and sleeps with. We pick it up the morning after, him at the girl's place.

He's looking at her, regretting what he did ("should've said I'd not come back"). Then it's him who says her breakfast will get cold and he needs to leave. He's realized that he really wants to be with the first woman and is ashamed of what he did.

The second verse is him trying to figure out what to do about it. He could just lie, pretend it didn't happen, and hope she'll never find out ("it's easier to lie and be safe). But all of his friends/family that he talks to think he needs to tell her ("giant leap of faith", "everyone you ask is so sure").

The second chorus is him remembering the woman he slept with during the break, her trying to get him to stay with her. Maybe she's literally talking to him and asking him to come over again.

In the end, he decides to tell his girlfriend the truth. She respects his honesty and asks him to show his commitment to her ("just say you love me now"). She doesn't want him to let this transgression linger ("just forget this whole row") but she also isn't letting him off the hook ("for making up with me").

Coheed and Cambria – The End Complete III: The End Complete Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song is continuing on the theme of second guessing and regret from "Radio Bye Bye". You have the ghosts/souls from the Keywork and the Prise all talking to Claudio (the character) about what he's done.

The ghosts are the saints, praising him for what he's done, assuring him it was the correct thing to do and will be all right. The Prise are the jury, making it out like he's just served his purpose, been a pawn in their grand scheme, and will suffer the fate of death.

To me, "Fall of the House Atlantic" is the climax, the ultimate act of The Crowing, with "Radio", "Complete", and "Road" all being reflections on the act as the world is dying: first Ryan tries to make Claudio regret his decision and feel like he's made a horrible mistake, then the ghosts and prise both praise his action but for different reasons with different purposes, then Claudio himself expresses that he wishes it didn't have to be like it was but acknowledges that it did and it's out of his hands now. Finally, "On The Brink" is a confusion of the Writer with Jesse and their inability to give the story an ending because they know how it's been set up to end but they don't think the characters/world deserve it, so they leave it open ended.

Coheed and Cambria – The Hound (Of Blood and Rank) Lyrics 18 years ago
Couple things that I'm hearing different, of course there's always the chance I'm wrong. Anyhow...

I'm 95% positive it's "I thought you wanted to". I think the villain (whether it's Mayo or some new one called The Hound) is challenging Claudio, almost calling Claudio a coward and saying "you've been wanting to find me and kill me for all this time but now you're scared to do so."

And then I think it's "Why no brother? I'm no brother. You've the wrong I.D." Like maybe the villain thinks he's fighting a certain person (Jesse? Claudio the character?) but really he's facing someone else (the Writer? I really don't have an good idea here).

I'm understanding the general story of this album and the songs, but a lot of these details have me all confused. So just throwing things out there.

Lovedrug – Everything Starts Where It Ends Lyrics 18 years ago
I was trying to write an explanation, it's definitely about the different ways we interact with people, but those we know and those we don't. But it's also about dreaming and looking at the big picture of life. I swear I'll figure it out one of these days.

But, until then, I'm all with Mariners. Absolutely beautiful, complex, and powerful.

Lovedrug – Doomsday & The Echo Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this is about a lack of support and/or doubts from other people. It's like he can't do anything right and everyone is getting on him about it, no one really do much to help him fix it. So he's kind of giving up and saying that every day is like another screw-up and he starts behind the eight ball every morning because of the situation he's in.

Lovedrug – Salt of The Earth Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is definitely about the stuff that went down with Capitol Records.

The beginning is them being happy with getting the record deal and trying to go along with Capitol's demands. But then they realize how "dangerous" that is and that it's killing their creativity. They lament about the things they could have done with their music and that kind of exposure. But the corporate game is too much and has killed so many other artists. So they're coming back to what they had before and counting on the fans to make it worth it.

Lovedrug – Bleed Together Lyrics 18 years ago
So much of there stuff is about relationships, and I think this is about one that went wrong. They got together because they were young and liked each other, but then he realized that he doesn't really need her (I'm pretty sure those lines all have "don't" in them).

So, at first, he's trying to make the relationship work but then it just becomes too much/not worth it. So they split up, have to deal with the pain, and move on, putting the relationship behind them.

Weezer – We Are All on Drugs Lyrics 19 years ago
The lyrics for this and "perfect situation" are changed both in the videos and on newer prints of the cd, though I have no idea why.

As to quality - this song and this album are both great. Those "true" Weezer fans who say otherwise are only proving their lack of dedication to the band. Weezer is one of my favorite bands but they do have a number of songs I don't like throughout their catalog. However, I think everyone has to respect them for being willing to turn out five albums that are very different. Each album has its own fill and each succeeds in each own way. While other bands play the same music year after year, Weezer is growing, experimenting, and evolving. Even if you refuse to like this song, at least respect their courage and creativity.

David Bowie – Life on Mars? Lyrics 20 years ago
The problem with understanding this song comes from all its layers. But that's also the skill and beauty of Bowie.

There's the simple story of a girl who uses the movies to escape, but the movies are lame and she can't "focus". That is, you can never escape.

There are shots taken at the movie industry. "I wrote it ten times or more" is the film maker/writer talking about how all the movies are the same. The same scenes (sailors, lawman) occur over and over.

"Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow" is a literal reference to the rapid growth of the Disney empire and the subsequent strike of workers demanding more money.

However, the mouse and strike references are indeed drawn out further into a comment on the ideas of communism. Lennon/Lenin is a definite pun, citing how Lennon was making Lenin's ideas popular again.

Finally, "is there life on Mars?" deals with the great scientific debate of the time. It relates to the main plot because there were sci-fi movies trying to show what it would be like if there was indeed life on Mars. It makes sense in this song because it can relate to a) the girl wondering if life can be good, b) the writer wondering if the industry can do anything else, c) the workers wondering if they really have a chance, and d) the population wondering if communism could ever really work. There are probably more questions that could be teased out in parallel to these, but I've listed the major ones I see.

Fall Out Boy – I Slept with Someone in Fall Out Boy and All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me Lyrics 20 years ago
I think that the line is actually "always weigh what i've got against what i've left". He's wondering if the things he still has are more valuable than the things he has left behind. It's not "lost", which would imply weighing in the opposite direction. Listen closely, there's definitely a 'g' in there.

RA – The Only One Lyrics 20 years ago
But he follows it up with "these words are mine". It's like he's referencing back to "Do You Call". If you pay attention to the song structure and the sounds/effects you'll notice that the two songs are very similar. Perhaps meant as a sequel of some sort. Maybe the person from the first one has finally escaped but now they're completely lost.

Anyone know of plans to studio record this?

I just heard it live last night and absolutely loved it. He's such a great performer. Can't wait to see what he puts on the next album.

I can't wait to hear the rest of this album. Sounds like OLP is taking a step back from Gravity. I love that album, but the old school is amazing.

Did everyone seen Raine's hat at Live8? Awesome.

Jason Mraz – Wordplay Lyrics 20 years ago
couple other mistakes in the lyrics that i can see
in the first verse it's

"cuz they need a new song
like a new religion
music for the television"

then later

"the lyrics never MUMBLE"

and

"there's a bridge across the stream OF consciousness"

just some minor fixes, i know. but i love this song, mraz is great, and i wanted to make sure everyone could get the correct words to try and sing along.
