For someone asking what "Turn my castles blue" means.

It's pretty obvious.

JFK was a democrat (blue color) and he turned the castle (the white house) blue.

Pretty simple reference when you think about it.

Who cares about which album was heavier? AHIG is trash. They got so caught up in delivering a "heavy" album that they threw art out the window.

Until they prove otherwise, Vol. 3 will remain the height of this band's artistic breadth. It kept the hard hitting power that made Iowa so great while packing more meaning and emotion into every song than Iowa ever did.

Too bad that AHIG was just them trying to make a heavier version of Iowa.

Slipknot, Iowa, AHIG. Those were ALBUMS. Vol. 3 was a work out art.

To answer your question, she broke up with him.

This whole album was his coping apparently. He's said many times at shows that the bulk of this album is about her, besides a couple of songs.

This song really proves that Greg can sing as good as any of the best radio whores today. People normally criticize people like Greg, foolishly saying that their use of heavy screaming is due to lack of vocal skill.

Fuck that.

Let's make it clear about Maynard's religion.

He's stated he's not a christian "per se" but definitely spiritual. So there's that.

Third Eye Blind – Blinded (When I See You) Lyrics 18 years ago
To me this song is just a guy who's looking back at a dead relationship in a philisophical manner.

Just an old friend coming over
Now to visit you and
That's what I've become
I let myself in
Though I know I'm not supposed to but
I never know when I'm done

*He's going to her house uninvited. They used to be dating but the relationship is dead now. She's reduced him to "old friend status". He still has feelings for her. He still loves her. She's basically moved on and then some.*

And I see you fogging up the mirror
Vapor around your body glistens in the shower
And I wanna stay right here
And go down on you for an hour
Or stay and let the day just fade away
In a wild dedication
Take the moment of hope
And let it run

*He walks in on her in the shower and thinks about what they could be doing if they were still dating. But they aren't and that hurts him. She doesn't love him.*

Never look back
At all the damage we have done now
To each other
To each other
To each other

*He doesn't want to think about all the bad things that happened in their relationship. They probably said a lot of mean things to each other at one point. Possibly a cause for their parting.*

But when I see you
It's like I'm staring down the sun
And I'm blinded
There's nothing left to do
and still I see you

*Everytime he sees her now, he can't help but be awed by how wonderful she is. He wants to forget about her like she has him, but he can't.*

I never believe that things that they happen for a reason
And they never go as planned
I wanted to thank you for a vision that was lost that you returned
But you're past where you understand

*The first couple of lines are pretty obvious. And pretty much nihilistic in nature. He knows that this girl has taught him a lot of things about life...but ironically she doesn't understand them herself.*

Now her appetite is blown
Little else is known
except she's a little angry
Grabs a towel, looks away
and heat fades with the day
And I fall down on what to say
oh something clean, let me be clever
Hey oh well, whatever
But that's not what I mean
Where we're been has left us burned
still i wont turn now from a fight
You know I'll never win

*now she's realized that he's walked in on her naked, and she's pretty upset...and he's speechless trying to think of something clever to say in his defense. So he plays it off like "oh well no big deal" but thats not really what he means. He knows he's hurting and he hopes she does too.*

so when I see you
you know all the things I've done
well i'm blinded
Like I'm staring down the sun
When I see you
When I see you
When I see you
It's like I'm staring down the sun

(Hey! I'm Blinded!)
(Hey! I'm Blinded!)
(Hey! I'm Blinded!)

Time it passes and it tells us what we're left with
We become the things we do
Me, I'm a fool, spent from defiance
yeah you got me but
I didn't give up on you

*More philosophy here... He's just saying that we're only the product of our experiences. He's talking about how he's always been stupid in life and he's tired of always defying life. But he never gave up on her. She just gave up on him.*

icarus is not a tee shirt or a swan song, no
He is born again and
It's not easy being me
but I can't promise I will mend
Or bend when you believe
That we are fixed now from our birth
And I've just fallen back to earth
Still you know I'll try again
Cause I believe that we are lucky
We are golden
We have stolen manners
in the days when we were one

*this part may seem tricky at first read, but it's really quite simple. He's saying that him being hurt by her not loving him isn't something that's going to necessarily ruin his life. He's going to be born again. And even though it's hard to be in his position, he can't promise he'll be hurt forever. He also believes that even when people fall hard like he has, they can still luck out in the end.*

So when I see you
In spite of all that we've become
I'm still blinded
But I'm still staring down the sun
When I see you
When I see you
When I see you
When I see you

Oh yeah
I'm still staring down the sun
Oh yeah
I'm still staring down the sun
Oh yeah
Well I'm still staring down the sun
I'm blinded

When I see you
When I see you
When I see you

These lyrics aren't quite right. It's more like this.

I have a ringing in my head
And no one to help me answer it
Even with you close enough to kiss.

Every minute is a range
Every moment lasts a day
And thinking about it can't help me let go, I know.

Talk, talking a lot, but it's still talk
Gotta love how it's somehow all on me
All the placings
And all the pretty things
Say whatever you want
'Cause I can laugh it off.
I can laugh it off.

I must turn back, I'm running away
To you at your faster pace
I wonder what it is you could have seen
In me

I'm the evil one who said.
Gonna let everything just act bad
Just like my chest, my ears are proud
And collision is such an ugly sound.

I can hear you now
Talk, talking a lot, but it's still talk
Gotta love how it's somehow all on me
all the petty scenes
And all the pretty things
Say whatever you want
'Cause I can laugh it off.
Talk, talking a lot, but it's still talk
Gotta love how it's somehow all on me

Taking Back Sunday – Bonus Mosh Pt. II Lyrics 18 years ago
I think the meaning for this song is pretty obvious. It's about a girl who doesn't love her boyfriend anymore so in order for her to break up with him and get together with another guy without feeling guilty, she has to create a situation where he is the bad guy. But it all gets jumbled.

So, scream I heard about your message
and how it reads of your indifference,
It bleeds horizontal straight from your wrists

*She's told him she likes this other guy and he's pretty upset about it. It's him talking about her obvious indifference toward him*

I'm bound to come around about
(Bound to come around)
Can’t you, can’t you feel it
Rolling off your lips
Tensing up your shoulders, c’mon

*He knows she's going to get mad at him about it too, and he knows he'll get over it. He's trying to understand that she likes another guy*

It’s love
(It’s love)
Make it hurt
(I deserve it)
Well, It’s love
(It’s love)
Make it hurt
(I deserve it)
Well, it’s love, it’s love, it’s love
Make it hurt

*She's tricked him into thinking that the whole thing is his fault and he fell for it, thinking that since he's being an asshole about it, he deserves the hurt that goes along with this.*

I said I use the inconsistencies
that undress the machines
Your the poster boy
the selling point
the focus for the new campaign

*This is a weird verse. I guess he's talking about how he's changed his mind about the situation and now he wants to hurt her too, since it's obvious she's hurting him with this breakup. It's almost like they're in a war to see who can put on the most grief.*

The keys to the castle
are right where I left them
A princess walked in
just to take more attention
Cuz, after all well isn’t that
all that I’ve been after
And after all well isn’t that I’m after

*This is another odd line. It seems to me he's confessing the whole thing to himself, that they both want each other to hurt so bad for what's happened.*

(No way out, no way)
(No way out, no way)
I give up in you
I wanted you for nothing more
than hating you for what you were
and that’s what you wanted to hear)
That’s what you wanted to hear
That’s what you wanted to hear
That’s what you wanted to hear
That’s what you wanted to hear

*this is the simple part to me. He's saying that there's no easy way to end it now. But he wishes she would just forget about trying to hate him and go her way in peace. But obviously she can't do that and still feel like she's not the bad guy, so he knows he has to play the part to make her feel better about dating another guy. He's just given up trying to reconcile it. So he tells her the only reason he dated her was so he could hate her or some crazy shit like that, because he knows that's what she needed to hear in order to forget about hurting him.

Slipknot – The Blister Exists Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with whoever said this song was about coming to terms with the fact that you are flawed and that everyone else is too. And I think it might be about some other things too. Here's my shot at an interpretation.

Bones in the water and dust in my lungs
Absorbing archaic like a sponge

*I think this is just an opening reference to the frailness of human life. Everybody has something like this happen to them eventually. We die.*

The ultimate way is the way you control
But can you stay if you detach your soul?

*He's talking now about the different ways of life people have and the ways we all deal with it. The second line dares to say that you could detach yourself from the world, but in the grand scheme of things...is that really safe? Or the right thing to do?*

Bury the present and squeeze out the past
The ones you endear to never last
Chemical burns and the animalistic
I'm just another hardline pseudo-statistic

*He's saying that we have to forget our past mistakes and forget our present situations, because the ones we love won't even be there in the end. Eventually we will be forced to let go of everything. He also realizes that in the grand scheme of things he is only another stat in the status quo, doing exactly as his experiences have taught him, like everyone else. Just a victim to influence.*

Can you feel this?
I'm dying to feel this
Can you feel this?

*He wants to feel the meaning behind it all. Why we are all here and so insignificant and flawed*

Blood on the paper and skin on my teeth
Trying to commit to what's beneath

*Maybe he's referring to human nature. To Kill and eat and survive? Although the second line could mean a lot of things. Maybe trying to commit to another view of life?*

To find the time is to lose the momentum
You learn the lessons and immediately forget them
Automatic and out of my reach
Consult all the waste to find the key

*This part sounds like he's saying that even if we try to unravel all the meaning and lessons behind life, we'll never group it all together. It's just out of his reach. The "key" to life is out of reach.*

Minimal life and the polysyllabic
I'm just another blank page - push the button, pull the rage

*He's just another page in the story of humanity. Insignificant and minimal. It's upsetting*

Can you feel this?
I'm dying to feel this
Can you feel this?

I am all, but what am I?
Another number that isn't equal to any of you
I control, but I comply
Pick me apart, then pick up the pieces
I'm uneven

*This is talking about all the people in the world that will say and think that they are better than him. And he's fed up with the thought of it. Even though he knows he has his own free will to make of life what he wants of it, he's still just complying with his experiences like everyone else. But he doesn't want to be this and declares his uneveness from the crowd.*

I am the damaged one
All my life and the damage done

Can you feel this?
I'm dying to feel this
Can you feel this?

I am all, but what am I?
Another number that isn't equal to any of you
I control, but I comply
Pick me apart, then pick up the pieces
I'm uneven

Stone Sour – Your God Lyrics 18 years ago
I think that British Kitten pretty much nailed it. A lot of Corey's lyrics have been known to be interpreted in many ways. So he may have even written it to have multiple meanings anyway. But in any case. I'm here to give my own interpretation.

I'm leaning toward the side that this is a break up song. Or something similar. The lyrics don't really point to the person in question being a man or woman. But it sounds to me like the speaker is mostly talking to a girl. I'll try to explain it in more detail.

Reveal to me this ugly thing - I'm rusted metal by your head

*He must be talking about the relationship in question here. If you look at it that way it's pretty self-descriptive.*

It's gotten out of hand again - nobody sees it, but I can
You thought of everything, I bet - but did you think that I might die?

*He's saying that the relationship has reached another point where it's not working out. Evidently none of the people who spectate the relationship realize that there's anything wrong with it. But then in the second line it's made clear what the problem is. You can infer from it that the other person in the relationship depends on him for too much. Almost lives off of him even. Thus the lines...she thought about everything that could happen to him except the possibility of him eventually dying. Which would leave her broken due to the situation.

I haven't really smiled in I don't know how long, you know
Something's gonna give again - SOMETHING'S GONNA GIVE AGAIN

*The situation is really bothering him and it's been like this for a long time. And just like it says. Something's gonna give.*

I tried to fight, but did you listen?
Even after you're gone, man, I'm finished
I could never be your god,
but then I don't even think I want the job anymore

*Perhaps he's tried to make it work out and fix the relationship into a healthier one, but evidently the other person just didn't listen to it. Which would sound ironic to the situation. He's still saying that he's unfit to be this person's "god" or idol, and even if you was he wouldn't want to be.*

Say something, anything to me - I do believe, but I have doubts
So many reasons to hold on - conflicting interest isn't it

*For some reason I detect a change of mood in this verse. Almost like the roles have been in some way reversed...but only half way. It's a bit hard to explain in words. But think about it. And you might see what I'm talking about. As much as it might pain him to say it, he also depends on this person like she does him. Just in a different and possibly more healthy way. He wants to have faith in the relationship but he has doubts like most people do. Even though he wants to hold on to the relationship he can't help but feel like it isn't working. It's not the fact that they have nothing in common (conflicting interest) but something else.*

I guess I'm better off in the end, cuz you were always there to blame
I haven't felt so bad in I don't know how long, you know
I can't get away again - I CAN'T GET AWAY AGAIN

*he figures he's better off just leaving the whole thing. He can't take it.*

I tried to fight, but did you listen?
Even after you're gone, man, I'm finished
I could never be your god,
but then I don't even think I want the job, you see
I tried to fight, but did you listen?
Even after you're gone, man, I'm finished
I could never be your god,
but then I don't think I want the job anymore

What am I supposed to do now? How am I supposed to live now?
All I ever did was try, but the story ends, so I guess I'll have to die
Where am I supposed to go now?
Solo - Josh
Go ahead and go away...
Solo - Jim
What am I supposed to do now? How am I supposed to live now?
All I ever did was try, but the story ends, so I guess I'll have to die
What am I supposed to do now? How am I supposed to live now?
What am I supposed to do now? How am I supposed to live now?

*Even though he's freed himself from the relationship he feels powerless afterwards. Like he has no idea where to go now that it's over. It's a feeling of push and pull. He feels both good and bad about his choice.*

A Perfect Circle – 3 Libras Lyrics 18 years ago
I just noticed something very very interesting while watching the video to this song.

Maynard says in the commentary that this song is partly about 9 people who were all libras, that attached onto him like leeches and fed on all his positive energy. Yet they never really saw what he had to offer. He called it 3 libras so they would all fight over who the song was about.
Watching the video there is some good supporting evidence underlying this meaning, but today I had a little revelation.

During the scenes where Maynard is being made love to by the 3 women, I noticed that all three of the women had a certain tattoo in one place or another. (One has it on her belly, another on her back, ect) I zoomed in on it to find it looked strangely like one of the font letters from the album art. hmmm...

I flipped to the page of the album art where some of the text translates to "3 Libras" (the page for the song) and sure enough the same symbol on the girl's tattoo's was taking up the whole damn background of the page.

When you think about it this all makes sense. The girls in the video (which are obviously the 3 libras marked by their tattoos) are leeching off of maynard's positive energy (through sex) but it's pretty clear that's all they care about. and they "don't see him at all" really.

I'm much too obsessed with this band. haha

Vertical Horizon – Shackled Lyrics 18 years ago
here's my interpretation. I'll try.

For so long my life's been sewn up tight inside your hold
And it leaves me there without a place to call my own

*obviously this song is about a guy who's life is being controlled by someone else. Probably a girl knowing this band. So I'll go with that. The guy has probably put a bunch of time and effort into the relationship and evidently the girl just isn't feeling it anymore. So she just cuts him off but he can't just do that too. He's still attached to her and she's still weaved into his life. He is lost without her presence.*

I know now what shadows can see
There's no point in running 'less you run with me
It's half the distance to the open door
Before you cut me down
Again
Let me introduce you to the end

*He's trying to let go of her once and for all so he won't be haunted by her anymore. He's saying that he's ready to realize why she left him and how he can let her go. So he's going to end all the suffering that comes from her memory and such.*

And I feel the cold wind blowing beneath my wings
It always leads me back to suffering
But I will soar until the wind whips me down
Leaves me beaten on unholy ground again

*He knows now that every time he thinks of her he gets blown down (depressed) so he's going to go in the opposite direction and leave it all behind.*

So tired now of paying my dues
I start out strong but then I always lose
It's half the distance before you leave me behind
It's such a waste of time

*he's just tired of going through all the same thoughts about her and trying to get away from feeling bad about it. It's just a waste of time thinking about her*

CHORUS
'Cause my shackles
You won't be
And my rapture
You won't believe
And deep inside you will bleed for me

*he's telling her that she won't get him down because of what she did. And in the end she'll be sorry that she left him and he'll be better for it.*

So here I slave inside of a broken dream
Forever holding onto splitting seams
So take your piece and leave me alone to die
I don't need you to keep my faith alive

*He's telling her to just leave for good so he never has to deal with it again. He doesn't need her or her memories anymore to get him down, or bring him back up for that matter.*

I know now what trouble can be
And why it follows me so easily
It's half the distance through the open door
Before you shut me down
Again
Let me introduce you to the end

CHORUS

Though you know you care

CHORUS

And my laughter
You won't hear
The faster
I disappear
And time will burn your eyes to tears

*He's finally over it and he's happy. He knows she'll be sorry in the end*

Jimmy Eat World – 23 Lyrics 18 years ago
interpretation time here we go.

*let me start by saying I think this song is about a guy (Jim I would say, but could be anybody) who has recently left his love for reasons they both had to agree on, and now he's realizing it was a bad idea and he can't really reverse it... I'll go into detail soon.

I felt for sure last night
At once we said goodbye
No one else will know these lonely dreams
No one else will know that part of me

*They've just recently broken apart and he's starting to realize that he will never meet a girl more perfect than she was, and who understood him like she did. He realizes that no one else will ever know his dreams and thoughts like she could.*

Im still driving away
And Im sorry every day
I wont always love these selfish things
I wont always live...
Not Stopping...

*I suppose this means that he drove away from wherever they were when they broke apart at that one time, and now he feels like he's still stuck in the perpetual task of leaving her...like he can't stop driving...or letting go of her. It's like something you never wanted to believe you finished, so you pretended you didn't. He's "still driving away".
He's also "sorry everyday" that he left her. And now it's kind of haunting him daily like a ghost because he can't take it back. He realizes that he's going to grow up, and he won't have her. He won't always live like a kid.*

It was my turn to decide
I knew this was our time
No one else will have me like you do
No one else will have me, only you

*He knows that he had to make the choice to break them apart and now he's just regretting the whole thing because he lost her*

Youll sit alone forever
If you wait for the right time
What are you hoping for?
Im here and now Im ready
Holding on tight
Dont give away the end
The one thing that stays mine

*he's trying to get through to her and tell her the whole thing was a mistake and maybe reconnect to her. She has lost him though, and she's hoping for something else that evidently isn't there because the guy knows they were perfect for each other. He admits that he's still going to be there for her anyway if she comes around. (The last two lines of this whole bit are really powerful to me because they can mean a lot)

Amazing still it seems
Ill be 23
I wont always love what Ill never have
I wont always live in my regrets

*more of the same. He's growing up*

Youll sit alone forever
If you wait for the right time
What are you hoping for?
Im here and now Im ready
Holding on tight
Dont give away the end
The one thing that stays mine

Youll sit alone forever
If you wait for the right time
What are you hoping for?
Im here and now Im ready
Holding on tight
Dont give away the end
The one thing that stays mine...

Taking Back Sunday – Little Devotional Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with a lot of what recyclable clock said and I think I wanna elaborate on it.

Well I'm blowing smoke out of your window
and you're slippin' back into your dress
You know you were always such a lady
I've always been impressed,

*Obviously this girl is cheating with him on some other guy. The just "got done" and he's kinda surprised that she would want to have sex with him. Apparently she's a really desirable girl.*

but gentlemen they don't ask questions
Just keep quiet and pay attention
Gentlemen, they don' t ask questions
We could pay attention...

*He doesn't know why she wants to cheat with him, but he's just gonna go with it. It's a bit reminiscent of the story of the half-outcast weird guy (Adam) getting the lady that all the popular hot guys usually get. *

I said I'm gonna have myself in shambles,
before your folks are up and lookin' for some answers
Said I'm gonna have myself in shambles,
before your folks are up and lookin' for some answers

*A bit of a weird line. I think it means that they are having to sneak around to have this secret "affair" or whatever, and the girl's parents probably know that something is going on because he's having to sneak to her room at night. He's nervous that they will get caught and he'll end up getting screwed over somehow.*

Well I picture you in blue,
but I have to say I'm more partial to the red
Deep, dark, and devastating,
leavin' no question as to where you've been

*This line has already been well covered in the past couple of pages, and I think it has a lot of meanings at once*

I calm the crowd by keeping quiet
I move like a shadow up to your matress
Gentlemen don't ask questions
We could pay attention

*Again, he's having to sneak over to her house at night to get with her. And he still doesn't know why she wants to have sex with him.*

Do you think he'd be better
at doing what I do best?
Do you think he'd be better
at doing what I do best?

*I think at this part, he's really started to figure out what's going on. She's seeing him for the sex and that's it. he's kinda jealous because he doesn't know if her real BF is better at sex than he is.*

I said I'm gonna have myself in shambles,
before your folks are up and lookin' for some answers
Said I'm gonna have myself in shambles,
before your folks are up and lookin' for some answers

cause we're down for competion
but this could all be on purpose

*Again, he's wondering if he's better than the other man. And he's thinking that maybe the whole thing was meant for more than just sex, but it's all so trivial and funny anyway if you read the last few lines in the songbook.

A Perfect Circle – Judith Lyrics 18 years ago
A lot of you should go out and buy the Amotion dvd and read some interviews and then listen to the Judith commentary. After mulling over it all...this song is crystal clear to me now. Maynard really hits the nail on the head during the amotion commentary and I want to try to clear up what you've all been arguing about for 18 pages. So here we go. The intended meaning of Judith, how Maynard explains it.

*This song deals with fundamentalist extremist christians. The kind that insist on a literal translation of a bible among other things. Go look them up on wiki. Maynard grew up around this people in Ohio. This song deals mostly with them, and yes his mother too.
Maynard describes this "southern baptist" environment of fundamentalist christians as very frightening. He describes them as very isolationist and conformist. During the time when his mother Judith was paralized by an anurism, Maynard saw that she remained strong because of her faith in God, and he was okay with that because her faith was true and honest and it was all she had. But at the same time, all these fundamentalist extremist christians who went to her church would surround her and tell her how strong in her faith she was and then go home and talk about her behind her back. Maynard described it as insane hypocrisy. Maynard also found it ironic that all these people preached about a punishing and mean God in heaven, when the original biblical meaning of "God" was love and light. I'll now jump into a song translation.

You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never ever choose to be
Oh so many ways for me to show you how your savior has abandoned you

*Maynard starts off by declaring that he is apart from these people (the F.E. christians) and talks of how the many ways he can show how their preachings and practices are apart from the bible and Christian way they claim to be part of.*

Fuck your god

*maynard clearly explains in the DVD commentary that he is not saying fuck "the actual God" but he is saying "fuck your concept of God". A God that would punish and isolate like the one that these people try to promote.*

Your lord, your christ
He did this
Took all you had and
Left you this way
Still you pray, never stray, never
Taste of the fruit
Never thought to question why

*This talks of how the F.E. christians are tied up in all their lies and misteachings and how it's really the fault of their self-created God. They were the ones who re-invented the loving God of the bible to be someone mean and isolating. In other words, they are crippled by their own lies.*

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side
Praise the one who left you broken down and paralyzed
He did it all for you

*still talking about how foolish and confused these people are. They act like everyone is so deep in sin and so hated by God.*

He did it all for you

Oh so many ways for me to show you how your dogma has abandoned you

Pray
To your christ, to your god
Never taste of the fruit
Never stray, never break, never
Choke on a lie
Even though he's the one who
Did this to you
Never thought to question why

*another scene of these people worshiping a totally false God. They remain to do this without chocking on the lie that they have created.*

Not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side
Talk to Jesus Christ as if He knows the reasons why
He did it all for you

He did it all for you

He did it all for you

*I'm not sure it all made perfect sense. 99% of that is out of Maynard's mouth. Go buy the DVD.

Jimmy Eat World – Polaris Lyrics 18 years ago
I like how someone earlier said this too.

The whole album kind of centers around drugs a lot. I think the message they are trying to get across is that if you aren't content with life, then of course you'll get into drugs 9 out of 10 times. That's the reason most people get into them anyway. But I think the moral of this is that if you are contented with what you have, then you won't need drugs. I know this is my situation. Right now I'm very content with life and for this reason I don't feel like I need drugs at all.

Vertical Horizon – Everything You Want Lyrics 19 years ago
I've swam through the interviews for a while and indeed it's not in any way about god. Most other people have it pretty spot on. I'm going to attempt to decipher the whole song in depth. Here it goes*

*To start, this song is about a guy (the narrator) who has a deep relationship with a girl , his best friend probably, who seems to be in intense emotional stress.
I'll leave the intro at that and take it from there.*

Somewhere they're speaking
Somewhere they're coming in
Oh and it's rising in the back of your mind

*The girl is having problems with other people she knows. Maybe her family. "somewhere they're speaking" is suggesting that even, now they are talking about her and saying negative comments about her. "rising in the back of your mind" means that all the time she knows that they are against her. She's in emotional pain because of all this. These lines could also apply to any relationships with boys she's had.*

You never could get it
Unless you were fed it
Now you're here
And you don't know why

*he's talking about how she was always lost in life, never really knowing where she was going, and making mistakes all the way. For a long time in her life, maybe her friends or family watched out for her, but indicated by the first lines of the song, they aren't trying to help her anymore. She has been emotionally abandoned by everyone but the narrator. The 3rd and 4th lines basicly say that she has gotten to this bad point in her life and she simply can't figure out how it all happened.*

But under skinned knees and the skidmarks
Past the places where you used to learn
You howl and listen
Listen and wait for the
Echos of angels that won't return

*This part is a bit hard to translate. It's an easy metaphor though. "skinned knees...skid marks" is a metaphor of her life. Through the recent past she has been emotionally hurt "skinned" and has constantly been unsure where to turn to "skid marks". "past the places where you used to learn" means that she has already been through most of her emotional learning. Or otherwise...she is no longer learning or moving forward in life and therefore doesn't know what to do next. "howl and listen...return" is talking about how in all this she has tried to find someone (an angel) who could help her work through the problems. But she hears only her echo because no one can help her. She doesn't think to look for the only person that could help her. (the guy)*

He's everything you want
He's everything you need
He's everything inside of you
That you wish you could be
He says all the right things
At exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you
And you don't know why

*not too hard to figure. He's talking about himself in the 3rd person. He sees clearly that he can help her through all the strife and sadness but sadly, she doesn't see anything in him and she doesn't even know why.*

Waiting for someone to put you together
Waiting for someone to push you away
There's always another
Wound to discover
There's always something more you wish he'd say

*The guy sees that she is still in all this pain. She longs for someone to come into her life and fix things and fix her. She happens to have a boyfriend that she wishes would help things, but it's not quite enough to fix the problem. And she knows it.*

He's everything you want
He's everything you need
He's everything inside of you
That you wish you could be
He says all the right things
At exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you
And you don't know why

But you'll just sit tight
And watch it unwind
It's only what you're asking for
And you'll be just fine
With all of your time
It's only what you're waiting for

*he knows that she will eventually drop into her pain and sadness so far she can't get out. She kind of realizes this too. There's not much either can do about it.*

Out of the island
Into the highway
Past the places where you might have turned
You never did notice
You still hide away
Anger of angels that won't return

*He's still reminiscing about her life. "out of the island" refers to her departure from having friends and family to help her out. The next couple of lines talks about how she went out on her on and went "past the places where she might have turned". There were many things that could have happened to her, but unfortunately she has ended up here. She never noticed her life was falling apart. She can only hide from it. "anger of angles" is talking about her family and friends that left her because of her human faults.

He's everything you want
He's everything you need
He's everything inside of you
That you wish you could be
He says all the right things
At exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you
And you don't know why

I am everything you want
I am everything you need
I am everything inside of you
That you wish you could be
I say all the right things
At exactly the right time
But I mean nothing to you
And I don't know why

*once again...he is the only one that could have helped her, but she doesn't see it. Neither of them could figure it out, and she is left to her pain*

The Goo Goo Dolls – Black Balloon Lyrics 19 years ago
Ok here we go

(like it or not, this song is about drug abuse. Rzeznik admitted it in an interview. So I'll go on this interpretation assuming only that much.)

Baby's black balloon makes her fly
I almost fell into that hole in your life

(There's a guy "the singer" who knows a girl. She abuses some sort of drug. Could be heroine who knows? The "black balloon" represents the drug. She uses it to get away from the pains of life that haunt her. "makes her fly" By the second line, he's talking about how he got caught up in this stuff with her and almost "fell" into the same state of drug abuse or the like.)

And you're not thinking about tomorrow
Cause you were the same as me
But on your knees

(It's indicated that the girl is depressed and that is why she abuses the drugs to get away from that depressions. Despite her depression and drug use the guy sees that she is really is the same as him. she lives in the moment. "not thinking bout tomorrow". The only difference between them as a matter of fact is her depression and drug use. NOTE: I've also looking into the religious possibility of "on your knees" and I think it might be a double meaning. Perhaps the guy is very secure being away from the church, and she has been blinded by it. (more on this later))

A thousand other boys could never reach you
How could I have been the one

(This suggests that she is very pretty, but guys who wanted to talk to her about her problems or maybe even just wanting sex could never get to her. This guy however, has somehow convinced her to let him help her. And he is in awe of that fact)

I saw the world spin beneath you
And scatter like ice from the spoon
That was your womb

(After getting closer to her, things get worse for her. He sees her depression get worse without being able to help her much at all. The metaphors here are a little complex. He first says that her "world is spinning and scattering" or falling apart in front of him. The next two lines compare it to the "ice from the spoon" which is another metaphor for her drug use. "was your womb" is another way of saying that the drugs were her escape from depression and her life falling apart.)

Comin' down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there

(while her life is falling apart, the guy is very sad for her and also realizes that the other people who loved her are sad too. He feels like his own "world turned over")

And I go on as you get colder
Or are you someone's prayer?

(He realizes that he has to continue on living his life even when hers if falling apart, and accept that there isn't much at all he can do about helping her. However , there is a glimmer of hope in his mind that all of her suffering may not be in vain, and perhaps she is really "someone's prayer" or an answer to it at least.)

You know the lies they always told you
And the love you never knew

(this is where the religious hints have a return. The guy is thinking about how people (maybe her parents) lying to her in the past may have been the cause of her depression. "the love you never knew" could easilly be the guy thinking about how no one has really understood her like he has recently. That is, the fact that she really is a good person (like him) but suffers from depression.)

What's the things they never showed you
That swallowed the light from the sun
Inside your room

(more religious references. This may even hint that the church and her family have sheltered her and therefore she has never known anything outside her own world that has been made up for her. The guy sees that she doesn't have a way to deal with these things like he does and therefore she has turned to drugs for it.)

Comin' down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder
or are you someone's prayer?

And there's no time left for losin'
When you stand they fall heyy..

(maybe he's saying that time is up for her now, and if she would just stand up and make a change, then everything would be alright.)

Comin' down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you grow colder
All because I'm
Comin' down the years turn over
And angels fall without you there
And I'll go on to lead you home
All because I'm
All because I'm
And I'll become
What you became to me

(He really tries to help her out, and it is unclear what happens to her. Maybe she goes on to get over her problems, or maybe not. The conclusion to this one actually concerns the guy. "I'll become what you became to me" is the line that ties it all together. When it's all done, the guy realizes that he was right when he thought that the girl was "someone's prayer."
She turns out to be the answer to his problem. He finally sees her for her true self. She is the same as him. Her drug abuse and depression is only a facet of her bad family experiences. Other than that she is just as good a person as he is. He resolves at the end of it to "become what she became to be" A good person, with unfixable faults. Acceptance...)

Converge – Vengeance Lyrics 19 years ago
Pure hatred for all who take away from the world or do it harm. That's what this album seems to be about.

In fact, the whole album seems to be a call to arms almost. A call for everyone who cares about hope and goodness to come together and annihilate the enemy. (love liars and theives) This song also gives off a feeling that Bannon is at his lowest, yet he finds solace in the fact that he has nothing else to lose, so he can only go upward from here.
and from here on out...it's war.

A Perfect Circle – 3 Libras Lyrics 19 years ago
I have a live audio version of this song from an audio rip. (not the amotion dvd.

Before it he says that it is indeed about 3 libras, and 2 of them are in the room, and maybe the 3rd one is two. Then he says that he's sorry if the song sounds bitter, because it's bitter and he is too.

They play the song, then maynard says some more words.

He says it's about a girl he was in a relationship with for 9 months, and the whole time she was faking her way through it. Then suddenly she left. He said that he tried to write the song in hopes that she would hear it and understand it and get back to him.
Then maynard says this: "it turns out she calls me after being gone for a year, and says she heard the record and loves it, but sadly she didn't get it. Now isn't that ironic?"

and thats it. I'm not entirely sure how it fits into the song, but I thought it was pretty explanatory.

Saosin – I Never Wanted To Lyrics 19 years ago
we've had one chance to
take back, but over and over again
i'll clean your wounds tonight
so we can rewind it all until i come inside

*basicly saying that something went wrong between him and someone. Possibly a fight. The speaker wants to rewind everything that happened and just forget everything that happened "before he came inside". This would suggest he was going to someone's house or meeting them somewhere to talk maybe? Could be that he's in a relationship with this person.*

i'll tear in two and never lie to you
cause you wouldn't take me home

*This is the line that makes me think Cove is talking about being away from someone when touring with Saosin. "tear in two" means he'll supposedly try to be in two places at once. (on tour and with this person) and obviously "never lie to you" means he'll never make the same mistake again. But by the next line, it is clear that the person won't take him back.*

your eyes are yet to be clear now
cause you wouldn't take me home

*I can't figure out this first line... Could mean that the person is crying about the speaker.*

you were right and i wasn't listening
i never told you what you were missing

*first line is more apologies. Second line is questionable. It could mean a lot of stuff.*

i never wanted to hear, (i never wanted to)
we are the only ones we are running from
i never wanted to hear, (i never want to)
we are the only ones we are running from

*self explanatory kind of. the last line is maybe saying that they're only running from themselves and theres no reason to be doing that.*

this was the only way we knew how
to make everything just okay

*fits into the first verse. Maybe the only way to come out of the relationship okay was for them to stop talking. This could be because cove was on tour and that was the only way they new to fix things?*

i'll make it up tonight
the sun was two steps too close with his waking eyes

*I'm not sure what the first line means. How is he going to make it up to the person given the past few lines? I dont know. The second line might mean that they didnt have enough time to do something?*

we'll make believe that everything's alright
cause you wouldn't take me home
your eyes are yet to be clear now
cause you wouldn't take me home
you're right i wasn't lsitening
i never told you what you were missing
i never wanted to hear, (i never wanted to)
we are the only ones we are running from
i never wanted to hear, (i never wanted to)
we are the only ones we are running from
i never wanted to hear (i never wanted to)
we are the only one we are running from
i never wanted to hear
we are the only ones we are running from

*more of same*

i want to break it off
we should stop cause theres nothing going on

*goes back to support the evidence of Cove being away. Theres nothing going on because he cant be with this person.*

A Perfect Circle – Passive Lyrics 19 years ago
Wow. It's so amazing to me how many meanings this song emits. Maynard is truly a jack of all trades when it comes to songmeanings. But heres what the song means to me.

Dead as dead can be
The doctor tells me
But I just can't believe him
Ever the optimistic one
I'm sure of your ability
To become my perfect enemy

(someone know by the person has died, yet he is in denial. It becomes clear that these two people were enemies or rivals, yet the person feels like they never settled their unfinished business, or rivalry. It's the simple feeling of not being able to prove you were better than your rival because they died before you could best and confront them. Or perhaps the "dead" part is just a metaphor for the fact that the person's rival finally gave up without a fight.

Wake up, and face me
Don't play dead, cause maybe
Someday I'll walk away and say
You dissapoint me
Maybe you're better off this way

(The person still cannot accept the fact that his enemy has left him without a fair fight and demands that he come back and confront him face to face. But eventually he realizes that he really is gone, but maybe someday his rival will return and he can finally say that he is the better of the two. Then the person has a lapse of thought thinking that maybe his rival is better off gone...)

Leaning over you here
Cold and catatonic
I catch a brief reflection
Of what you could and might have been
It's your right and your ability
To become my perfect enemy

(at his rivals funeral, or perhaps remembering his prescence, the person daydreams about what could have been and how they could have had the greatest confrontation, completing the person's need for victory over his rival.)

Wake up(why can't you)
And face me (come on now)
Don't play dead(don't play dead)
Cause maybe(cause maybe)
Someday(someday)
I'll walk away and say
You dissapoint me

(Once again, the person is hoping, wishing, and begging that his rival will just return and finish what they started)

Maybe you're better off this way(x4)
You're better off this(x2)
Maybe you're better off

Wake up(why can't you)
And face me (come on now)
Don't play dead(don't play dead)
Cause maybe(cause maybe)
Someday(someday)
I'll walk away and say
You fucking dissapoint me
Maybe you're better off this way

(finally realizing what his final situation has become, he becomes angry and frustrated that he simply cannot confront his enemy due to his abscence. His hopes of ever settling the rivalry are all but dispelled.

Go ahead and play dead(GO!)
I know that you can hear this(GO!)
Go ahead and play dead(GO!)
Why can't you turn and face me(GO!)(x4)
You fucking dissapoint me!

Passive agressive bullshit(x12)

(this is perhaps the most important line in the song due to it's complexity. Perhaps the person is simply cooling off thinking of how his rival was simply sitting in the shadows the whole time, plotting against him.)

A Perfect Circle – Judith Lyrics 19 years ago
Now that 10000 days has been released this song makes so much more sense.

It's not an anti-christianity song. It's an anti-modern day christianity song. His mom was brainwashed by all these modern churches that tell us we need to give them money so we can better worship god. Maynard is saying fuck that and fuck "THEIR" version of God because he believes that we should all find out our own faith. (he said that in an interview)

He loves his mom, yet he's mad at her in this song because her blind following to the church has left her (literally) paralyzed. (it just so happens she died approximately 10000 days after she went into the coma)

The main meaning of the song really, is to not invest your faith in the church, but straight to God.

In 10000 days, maynard makes it up to her by singing about her faith, regardless of how blind it was...the faith was sincere, and therefore he thinks she will still go to heaven.

This song seems to be some sort of last rites type thing.

*Dear, just one day, just another flight, just one more lonely night*

basicly he's telling his lover he's leaving and he wants to have one more night with her.

*Just one more crowd under the burning lights
(with some blood and mind to be paid)*

to the people who come to his shows. He's aying he will miss their prescence.

*To my friends, to my family
I tried to be the best man I could ever be
Tasted their failure on the entrance way
(with some blood and mind to be paid)*

he's telling his family he tried his best to be a good person and he's sorry for whatever he did that was bad.

*To my greatest of demons, I beat you*

despite the fact that he's leaving or dying or whatever, the song ends on a happy note because he's dying with no worries and fears (demons).

Ok so here we go. I believe this song was written to have two meanings. Firstly, the anti-christian one, which I won't deny, and second the metaphorical one which I'm going to attempt to dissect right now.

*this song is basicly told by a guy who knows a girl with an abusive BF. He hurts her emotionally and cheats on her, yet she can't bring herself to let him go. This is the guy's speech to the girl*

You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never ever choose to be

*He's telling her that he will never bring himself to the level of her situation where she depends on someone emotionally and can't live without them no matter how much they hurt her*

Oh so many ways for me to show you how your savior has abandoned you

*hes telling her that theres so much shit this guy has done to her and all the ways he has left her for dead so to say*

Fuck your god
Your lord, your christ
He did this
Took all you had and
Left you this way
Still you pray, never stray, never
Taste of the fruit
Never thought to question why

*he's saying that she just needs to give this guy the finger because he ruined her life and he doesnt even love her, but she still worships him and loves him with all her heart. She never thought cheated on him or thought to question why he's doing this stuff to her.*

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side
Praise the one who left you broken down and paralyzed

*She feels like she deserves what she's getting from this guy because she's been bad but he's telling her that she hasn't really done anything at all. Even still, she loves this guy.*

He did it all for you

He did it all for you

*this is very ironic because she probably told him that this guy did the stuff he did because he loves her. thus the guy comes back with: "oh yeah he did it all for you"*

Oh so many ways for me to show you how your dogma has abandoned you

*same as first line*

Pray
To your christ, to your god
Never taste of the fruit
Never stray, never break, never
Choke on a lie
Even though he's the one who
Did this to you
Never thought to question why

Not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side
Talk to Jesus Christ as if He knows the reasons why
He did it all for you

He did it all for you

He did it all for you

Saosin – Lost Symphonies Lyrics 20 years ago
I highly doubt it. Ant has always said that he never really talks directly about religion in his songs. It's just that he was raised in a christian setting and he draws a lot of imagery from that. So it's easy to see why you'd think that. He might be reffering to the bible, but it's likely he's using it as a metaphor for something else.

Well first off i agree with the guy that says this song is about how Scogin is trying to find a girl himself but he's decided that he must let god show him the girl.

I think if you look at the lyrics from the first half of the song it's a bit easier to tell what he means.

it is all done wrong
or so it appears
it is all done right

*This is pretty obvious, he's reffering to our creation. At first he is talking about how people think our emotions our flaws of god. But by the: "or so it appears" lyric, he's rethinking this and deciding that maybe God knew all along how to mold out minds and bodies. Thus the lyric: "it is all done right"

i am pressing on no matter how it looks
it is all planned out
understatement

*Scogin's talking about his love life and how no matter how grim it might look to him, he's pressing on because it's all planned out by god. The word: "understatement" is used really well here, because he is sudgesting that even though he said it's all planned out by god, that is an understatement in comparison to what God can see in his future.

*the next few lines are simply more musings of this topic and him saying that he doesn't care about our surroundings or emotions, that everything will end up the same way god intended it to, no matter what.*

My Epiphany – Body Talk Lyrics 20 years ago
This is an awesome song that tells an awesome love story from a guys point of view!!!

You put on
your make up just right
For Something and I guess
that you accidently fell into that dress

*He's obviously going to a party with a girl. It's something formal like a prom. He is talking about how beuatiful she is*

You'll show up
on every radar screen tonight
my baby
with the echo strength
and rejection circuitry
So gracefully
unaware that she
is the brightest girl
this boy has ever seen

*by the radar screens he means that every guy at the party will be checking her out cause she's so hot.
Though he knows that she loves him and not the other boys. The girl however does not know that this guy loves her so much.*

and our bodies talk
even if we don't want to
but your eyes say that you want to
like right now

*He's simply referring to body gestures and how they will tell somebody what a person is feeling even if they don't want them to.*

so if that's true
all you want is someone to talk to
well i will be right here
listening for you

*just the guy telling her that he will be there for her always*

she explains to me
her whole story
how she was stuck in the desert by the hands of forty theives
and then released
because even theives believe
that if you find love you gotta set it free
honestly im not so sure that she
thinks i'm being the man that i deserve to be
so gracefully
unaware that he
is the brightest boy
this girl has ever seen

*so she decides to tell him her story, which goes like how she's been with so many boys before but none of them were good enough. He isn't sure that she sees his potential, but he thinks she loves him.*

because your perfect
just the way you are made
and i wouldn't want you any other way

those boys will lie to you
but you won't believe

*he's just refferin to all the guys that have said she's not perfect and how he thinks she is beuatiful*

So that's about it. i could go a bit deeper but i'll leave this one short.

Taking Back Sunday – I'm Not Gay (I Just Wish I Were) Lyrics 20 years ago
Ok so I need to open up on this now.

First off, those lyrics are so freakin bad it makes me laugh.

Here is the 100% correct lyrics---

So I say "forget it" while you reach, reach for the shotgun
you did it simple, but not close
You did on purpose
you serve a purpose on your own

and it was somethin' like a movie's porn
and you both all drop your keys to the ignition
Squirm and lock,
'cause you don't turn that way

*Chorus*

I make it
out like a(n)
accident all because it's true

I make it
out like a(n)
accident all because it's true

*/Chorus*

*Extension*

I make it (I'll make it...)
out like a (Right from wrong and...)
accident all because it's true

I make it (I'll make it...)
out like a (right from wrong and...)
accident all becuase it's true

*/Extension*

I make it out like it's an accident
there's a fine line--blue's and purple
and I missplaced them
from my eyelids: (they're) commin' out your stereo
I'm runnin' circles on this town
it makes you, oh, so nervous
I'm a crash-course in de-sper-ation

*Chorus*
*/Chorus*

*Extension*
*/Extension*

Break down up apon it
let it get to you a closer way
Take time up apon it

(Turn it down while I hold this drama)
(Turn it down while)

you were on time
I wasn't on and
there were keys that
made me stronger
What did you learn from a month of me?
this?
it's only this:
it's only this:
it's only this:

*Chorus*
*/Chorus*

-----------------------------------------------

Just listen and you can tell that they are right.

To tell the truth I have no idea what this songs about. Adam went really "Hidden meaning" on this one. With the gay dragon thing and the wanting to die.

This is really deep stuff.
Anyway, I figured you guys could use those. Meanwhile I'm gonna uncover WTF this song is about.

Saosin – Lost Symphonies Lyrics 20 years ago
Hey I think I might have figured out what the lyrics means that you missed Alleishmo.

If I decide to severe the plates below
The shore would separate and find only seven placed again*

You said that thing about religious references, well this is obviously another one.

It's basicly refering to the world and it's seven seas.
When god made the world he broke all the oceans apart and created seven seas.

So evidently the singer is talking about re-forming the oceans. However, I don't really see how this ties into the main story.

I seriously can't think of how this would fit in but I know that's what he's talking about. If you'll read the song is in sequence, it doesn't skip around like other songs. This part happens after he dies but before the momorial.

I guess he's trying to think of ways to bring him back but he knows that no matter what he does he will never succeed in bringing him back or playing god.

Or maybe that whole bit is a sarcastic part saying how he thinks he could play god and revive him...

I dunno

Saosin – I Wanna Hear Another Fast Song Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this song was written by the remainder of the band after Anthony left about how they felt.

Here's why---

We are in tune with old, now feel-feel it.
Feel better supposed to
say it was something new, one by one
(all we are is no one)
This won't mean a thing.

*Probably Beau saying that even though Anthony left, they still play the same type of songs but they still feel empty without him. "One By One" they accepted the fact that he was gone and they have to deal with it. I think that the "All We are is no one lyric" is saying that even with all the other members in the bad, they are nothing without anthony.*

I overheard you once, this has on gone before.
kinda like the way you move with me
We are accounted for.
We seem so far away from,
These things we used to know.
We seem so far away from, everything new.

*The first line is Beau talking about how he had seen Anthony quit a bunch of other bands before. in the next two lines he's saying that the other members are happy but Anthony was not. The final three lines are abviously talking about how everything seems so far away from when Anthony was in the band.*

We are in tune with old, now feel-feel it.
They all will say they broke it up
say it was something new
no one needs to know
We seem so far away from,
This won't mean a thing

*I am a bit clueless about this verse help! I know some of it is just repeat lyrics but the "No one needs to know" lyric is baffling me.*

The rest of the song is basicly repeats of the other lyrics.

Comments are welcome. and corrections.

This song didn't impress me much. Cove sucks. Maybe the final version will be better.

Saosin – I Have Become What I've Always Hated Lyrics 20 years ago
whoah whoah whoah....that's not all right.

First off, Anthony got over his drug problem during his first year with Saosin. Second, Beau is good friends with Anthony, not really that much with Cove. And cove is just some fan who was dying to sing for them so finally they let him because he wanted to so bad. It turns out he's pretty good.

JamisonParker – Best Mistake Lyrics 20 years ago
I think it's about a guy who has no other reason to live except a girl he likes. Like, she is the only thing keeping him alive. So he focuses all his energy into getting her to like him when all the time she doesn't realize that she is what's keeping this guy alive, and she's getting into the big mess of things.
It sounds like eventually the girl figures out what's going on and the guy is begging her to stay with him.

Saosin – Seven Years Lyrics 20 years ago
ok, here is what Chris, the bassist said in an interview.

“Seven Years is basically a letter Anthony wrote to his father…it has to do with a multitude of themes, involving the number seven, including the theory that every seven years humans go through middle life crisis and there's a need for reinvention, it’s a very personal song to him...so I hope I did it some justice.

Ok, I did some research on this thing and I'm pretty sure of a few things.

Firstly, I think the whole song is basicly like a eulogy for somebody. Not sure who yet. If I had to guess I would say his dad... But again, I'm not sure. It sounds like the singer has unfinished business with whoever died.

this is one of the best live songs the do. It's just awesome. The intro he says before it is so funny and the end of the song is just crazy!

well, I think Saosin is a band with a lot to say.
I mean really, they can do something like Seven years and go talk about Booty holes?

I'm not saying they don't mean it when they scream at the crowd, I'm just saying even depressed people have fun sometimes LOL.

Saosin – Show Me Yo Booty Hole Lyrics 20 years ago
well, I'll take the time to point out that the group that does this song is not Saosin but is called Take The Crown (which is made up partly of Saosin members)

However, it'd be a good idea to check out TTC on Myspace because all their other songs sound a lot like Saosin. Thier song "Hourglass" is a masterpiece.
