The whole song to me seems like it is talk about mind altering substances . . . whether alcohol, medication, other illegal drugs . . . whatever. And it seems like brian is talking about how so many people rely on it to get through life because they are weak and the world seems scary and unsafe. Rock on whiskey wagon!!!! |

Every verse in this song can't follow the same meaning . . . "masochists to which i cater" refers to people that enjoy being hurt by him and continue to come back for more, not people hurting him, and he is coming to a point where he can't stand causing others so much pain. The second verse is about others hurting him "so you fed me shit to digest" and not being able to deal with that either, though it is his own fault and he realises this. "wish i had a reason, (to walk away) my flaws are open season( it is my own damn fault)" Then, in the chorus he is finally saying how because he has caused so much pain to others, and all he receives is pain, and he doesnt have the power to change that, so people shouldn't bother . . .he'll just keep slipping farther and it isn't your problem .. . because he will be fine in the end . . . he will find that person(or thing) that he can hold onto, and once that happens . . . it is for good. Verse three: wishes he died, so he didnt have to go through this pain and have to deal with putting on a mask so others dont " he wasnt always this way . . . he doesnt know how he became this way . ..he's become full of pain, hurt sorrow etc. . . . and has just given up . . .
