I've got to say, the reptilian alien confuses me a bit - if he's alien, the cladistics would be off for him to be considered a true reptile, and even if an iguana or something had caught a ride on a meteor to alienland to evolve there, it would still be like me wearing boots made out of human skin [And I'm obviously the biology nerd from hell ;)].
Great song though. |

Favorite HD song hands down. Starts out so wryly sexual but evolves into a chronicle of the most dynamic sort of relationship people can have with a healthy - yet not overdone - amount of political commentary. "Back to question every effort, back to challenge your command..." is my favorite line. You're not settling for love for the sake therof; you're using it to compete and grow. |

(Well, that was odd. As I was saying....)
Much love for this song. It seems to be, quite blatantly, about the rampant sort of competition pervading everyday life. Nice for AP kids to listen to during finals week. |

Well, it's fairly obvious that this is about the speaker's wife/girlfriend/partner/whomever dying, but I've got this story I'm positively stuck on so here it goes. Romance between an older guy and a younger girl. The man was basically the girl's mentor in whatever given field and fell in love with her. Girl was smart and ambitious and unsatisfied with donating any portion of her life to anything other than work. Man couldn't understand that at all. Girl left him for a higher position, despite any sacrifice of her "humanity" or what have you ["let my eyes see everything and nothing in their time; i will not mind" - this is the girl speaking, observing people from afar, being detached and fine with it]. "Call me teacher, call me friend"..."Call my name, it echoes in the walls around this room, it's all you," is the man observing how she's risen above and beyond him mentally and being proud though they're not together anymore.
Yeah. So it's pulled out of nowhere and makes very little sense, but there you go. |

We just finished doing a comparison of this song to Lord of the Flies in English. Needless to say, my English class is friggin' awesome. |

Well, after I heard it I learned this song was about his mother, so that might have skewed my interpretation a bit. It's definitely about someone dying, but I don't think it's making her crazy - on the contrary, the prospect of death is sobering and very, very real and she's uncertain as to how to deal with it. "It's 3am, I must be lonely" comes after "and the clock on the wall has been stuck at three for days" - it's a dry joke. The video is kind of cool too, I think that either all the people in the black&white shots are supposed to represent cancer victims or that Rob's suspecting they are/wondering about their lives. |

(This is a long shot because honestly I have no idea, but nevertheless:)
I think it's about a competitive relationship in which both parties are intelligent and stubborn and unwilling to let go of rationality and emotionally/personally expose themselves to one another, before overcoming that. Meaning aside, I am SO IN LOVE with the constant "la dah dah DA-ah"s and such. Fabulous rhythm. |

I LOVE the raw attitude in this song. It's about hypocrisy and the decaying effect it can have on a society, religion included, and if serial7 won't point the fingers at Christianity then I certainly will.
And, er, the lyrics are a bit off. |

Favorite Dishwalla song for sure. I think it's funny how so many people see it as being about sex, because while I can see how it can be interpreted as such there's an intense, haunting, deeply human sort of quality to it that makes the lyrics resonate so much deeper. Can't pin down the meaning, but if you listen the song you feel it. |

This song is amazing, I love the last bit. I think it displays an overwhelming sort of gratitude for all things in life, regardless of "good" or "bad" - just thankfulness for the experience in itself. |

Reminds me of Watergate :) The "you're working so hard and you're never in charge..." etc etc part being Deep Throat/Mark Felt. |

Being brilliant and being stuck with the mediocre - at least for the time being. Knowing you deserve more but unable to get it. Biding your time to escape with a bang. |

I head JR wrote this after his son fell & scraped his knees (or something of the sort). It's an amazing song, though, because it's applicable to everyone and he sings it with such earnest emotion. Best song on the new CD, easy. |

This is the most gorgeous, powerful song. It reminded me immediately of Orwell's 1984, cool to hear that someone else thought so too. |
