I think CriticsAreRaving on page 2 has it.. I mean it all fits; you can have your own opinions, that's fine, but for me it makes sense. I mean Thom Yorke said himself that the vocals were manipulated because otherwisez he could not sing the song because of it's "brutal and horrible" subject. He did so to distance himself from it. |

| Nine Inch Nails – Capital G Lyrics
|
Below is from wikipedia:
Trent Reznor said that the "G" stands for "Greed", though numerous reviews of the album assume it is about George W. Bush. However, Year Zero's storyline is set 15 years in the future, when Bush will no longer be president.
In the multitrack files, the chanting sample is entitled "Capital G Greed," which further shows that the intended meaning of "G" is greed. The single's cover art references the Federal Reserve District Seal on a United States one-dollar bill—specifically, the "G" seal of dollars issued by the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank.
I think it's just coincidence that Trent is talking a governmental figure being elected to office and declaring war... it's not as if Bush is the only leader that has "dropped the bomb" on another country lol. Anyway if yo follow the theme of the album, there is no way that is could be about Bush. |

I was listening to this while studying for an exam in english. A book I was studying for to write an essay on, "Night" by Elie Wiesel, I was studying and noticed a ridiculous similarity between the lyrics in this song and the quotes and thoughts in the book. In particular, a kid in the book that Elie talks to says that he has more faith in Hitler than God or anyone else, because he was the only that kept his promises, all his promises to the Jews. Difficult book to read... would leave anyone with faith in God in doubt. |

| Nine Inch Nails – The Downward Spiral Lyrics

It's interesting looking at this in relation to Hurt, because both songs can be interpreted as murder, but I think that this is the contemplation of it, and Hurt is the act of it. If you take the lyrics in Hurt "I will let you down, I will make you hurt" I guess you can believe that the character has not yet commited, but is seriously considering it. Then you take "If I could start again a million miles away, I would keep myself, I would find a way" you could interpret that he has just commited or is about to commit suicide. I think it comes down to personal opinion, Trent wouldn't want much more than that. |

i love the original version of this... and the cover is almost as good in my opinion. still, this version is emotionally powerful. oh and there is no teenage angst about NIN at all. what trent reznor writes is poetry. the album itself was a concept record about depression, drugs and meaningless sex, which was the "downward spiral". anyway NIN, like Cash are artists. therefore they should be taken for who they are whether you love them or hate them. to say they are overrated is ridiculous. their music is true and never tried to sell out, so don't label them like that. this song is one of the most beautiful ever written, and cash makes one of the greatest cover efforts ever. |

this is such an amazing song. i remember the clip from when i was only about 5 or 6 i think (when it was released) and totally forgot about it. then one night last year, i left the radio on, and woke up listening to it at about 4 in the morning. defianately one of those late night moods songs! and yeah ive loved it ever since. and to those guys saying that they were alone about liking the song... well im a guy and i think its just a beautiful song! and i mean i listen to heavy metal also, just anything that sounds good. anyway the point is people should listen to whatever the hell they want to listen to, regardless of what others think - its their f**cking problem!
also, i think the lyrics are welll written. hmm i wonder if she wrote it herself?... |

ever since i first listened to this song, i've thought of this as the ultimate love song. it is such an amazingly beautiful and positive song, without being in any way corny. man the organ work by jpj in this song is so heartwarming... i cannot say how ridiculously beautiful it all is. Also, the lyrics in it are incredible! i believe its just one of those natural songs that just happens. |

I think that this song is quite amazing, not only because it so beautifel, but because it has had an affect on me with me realizing it at all. I've learned to appreciate things to their full value, and learnt the cost of taking them for granted and losing them. When a bit of music has such an impact on you like that, you have to stand back, take a deep breath and just appreciate that!
Also like to add its up there in my opion with comfortably numb, baba o'reily, shine on you crazy diamonds, spiders, hallelujah and message to my girl as one of the most truly powerful songs ever written. Words can't describe it, because it's something i can only feel. |

| Tool – Third Eye Lyrics

|
the reason Maynards makes the quote on Salival about thinking for yourself and all that generally is what the third eye theory is all about - thinking with a higher conscience and pushing the envelope of our mind and assessing things with greater thought and not just looking at the obvious. We are all capable of alot more than we generally believe, and the third eye shuts out negative thought. Also we are not meant to know everything in this life, and i can tell you that most of it remains a mystery to us, but we should not only look with our eyes, but with our mind.
"I stick my hand into his shadow
To pull the pieces from the sand
Which I attempt to reassemble
To see just who I might have been"
this looks to be talking about reflecting on how we change and hopefully becoming more open-minded and attempting to become a greater person, but realising what we would have been like if we were to despise the third eye. |

i agree with MtterOFctItsAllDrk. the pulse version is so much better in my opinion. i might say i am yet to see the movie, but apparently its quite sick. the album itself is one of the best of all time, with one of the greatest songs ever recorded, comfortably numb, and the rest of the album is terrific with songs like this aswell as hey you, in the flesh, another brick in the wall and although its not as great as dark side of the moon, where the whole band was working as a band, its still amazing. |

well, erasmus11290, i can agree with you to a certain extent. I live in Australia, and as you may already know, the southern cross is on our flag, and also it's not 'barely visible to the naked eye', at least not in Australia, where for most of the year it is one of the most visible constelations in the sky. enough of the hoo ha, this song absolutely rocks, and is one of their alltime greatest. Dio, although not the character or frontman campared to Osbourne, he had a much better voice. |

As far as i'm concerned, Tool's top three absolute "epics", and i dont mean songs like Lateralus, The Grudge or Eulogy, i mean real epics are as followed:
1. 10,000 Days
2. Third Eye
3. Rosetta Stoned
but not necesaraly in that order, i would almost say that they are also their top three songs, but then there is the diversity and quality throughout all tool's songs, so i couldnt disregard others. i have a list below of the songs that I PERSONALLY think could quite possibly be their most outstanding, bold, creative and brilliant songs to date. keep in mine this is MY list and obviously alot of people will disagree with it, so don't snap! There are, of course, 10's of others that i could have or should have put in, but i couldn't be fucked writing another list. (if anyone's seen the new tool list on digitaldreamdoor.com, you would have to agree with me that it sucks, based on the fact that it has "Ticks and leeches" as "TICK and leeches", and "the grudge" as "GRUDGES" lol, but also, it looks extremely rushed, and is missing key songs.
1. 10,000 Days
2. Third Eye
3. Rosetta Stoned
4. Lateralus
5. Eulogy
6. Ænema
7. Reflection
8. Schism
9. Sober
10. Stinkfist
11. Vicarious
12. The Grudge
13. Pushit
14. The Pot
15. Parabola

great song off quite possibly the greatest concept album of all-time. The real beauty of this song is how it changes from the 7/8 timing into the guitar lead, which is obviously in 4/4 timing, then back into 7/8, and what's more is that it works so well and simplistically. Pure genious. |

this song is featured on the new adam sandler movie "click", and it fits the movie ferfectly. it is playing when sandlers character has his first kiss with his wife to be, and later in the movie when they are divorced because he has put his wife and family second to his job, and taken it for granted. anyway, this is such an amazing song, while it makes me sad, it reminds me of how we often neglect what we have until its gone, and forget about how it can hurt others. |

from the first time I heard Pink Floyd (via Pulse) I have always admired the way there music is "art". and true art, few rock bands can resemble art in such a fashion. there are some: led zeppelin, tool, smashing pumpkins to name a few, but alot of music nowadays seem to push away from the whole art idea, and especialy "creative art" which is the genre music falls into. aside from that, this song has the #1 guitar solo of all time in my opinion, which is just a element of this master piece. can I also say that David Gilmour is the greatest lead guitarist to date, and while he might not be the most skillful, he is definately the most emotive and soulful. Inspiration is an understatement. |

| Tool – Rosetta Stoned Lyrics

This song explains about a guy that had vivid hallucinations about extra terrestrial life possibly landing on Earth, from tripping on L.S.D. In Lost Keys, it explains that he is still in shock, however there isn't anything phisically wrong with him. The title of the song in the brackets (Blame Hoffman) is indicating that it is an L.S.D. trip, as Dr. Hoffman was the creater of the drug. This is the obvious meaning of the song, not sure of any other interpretations, maybe there's a hidden message or something but it looks like its just a simple lyrical song about that. Aside from all that, it is a really good song in all generality. |

yep eskimo_8 and thirdeyewide have got it absolutely right. Unlike alot of other Tool songs, I can say with 100% assurance that I know what i'm talking about! That this is about Judith's devotion to God, and as eskimo_8 mentioned, Maynard is quite disgusted with her god, but is both respectful and inspired by her. She prayed and kept the faith without fault, and recieved nothing in return. MJK seems truly inspired by her relentless faith in these lyrics. After all this spite towards God though, I think, and I may well be wrong, that MJK is saying that she is going home (to heaven) and that all the faith has finally paid off; that she has done her time, so to speek. That's basically my interpretation of the song, and how he feels about her mother's faith. This is mainly about how his mother feels towards God, but on the song, "Judith" by A perfect circle, the lyrics are based around how Maynard feels about his mother's faith in God.
- Please take the time to read this if and tell me if i'm right or wrong. |

I agree with with Kilahill, KittieV and few others that this song is defianately about Maynards mother. For those that don't know, Judith Maree Keenan was paralyzed for 10,000 days (which is of course the title name of the new Tool album) before she died. And yes, Maynard seems very fuedful towards God. As most should know, Maynard is very religious, but isn't ashamed to lash out at him every now and again. Greatest lyricist of the 21st century, and also in the 20th century in my opion. Takes a more in-depth approach, and more unique way of writing which works well. Rock On!!! |
