| Nelly Furtado – Say It Right Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i totally agree with carannilwen and Jigglez in terms of thinking nelly having lost her artistic identity with loose...but then i heard this song...as a fan of her early stuff it's good to see maneater and promiscuous were probably more about her artistically growing and experimenting rather than losing herself...this is an excellent song | |
| Sean Paul – I'm Still In Love With You (Feat. Sasha) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
i think the following intro is missing from the lyrics above: Well in come the thing them call a broken heart This blessed love will never stop I tell em say a dutty yeah Sean Paul and Sasha... Come sing for them baby Though you make me holla though you make me sweat I can't get your tenderness Still I can't get you off my mind What is it you do I got the dutty dutty love |

| Sean Paul – I'm Still In Love With You (Feat. Sasha) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| to take it a step further it's a guy who expresses his "love" for his woman in a purely sexually way, and she's longing for more affection...he sexes her, leaves and that's how he expresses his "dutty" love...he's not sticking around for the love and affection she craves but rather for the physical...but he has her hooked nonetheless by being able to control her by just giving her some good sex... love it | |

| The Chicks – Not Ready To Make Nice Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| love this record...but on a general note, here's what i never can get about our society...we claim to uphold these virtues of free speech, dissident opinions, etc but when someone exercies those rights they are ostracized...it;s ironic that we claim to be fighting overseas in iraq for the rights of others but then when someoen speaks their disagreement with the war, they are criticized...so we are basically fighting elsewhere for rights we ourselves our not always upholding in our own country....if the dixie chicks think bush is a moron, let them say it without such negative backlslash for it...how is it different from sadaam hurting those who criticized him....? | |
| Katie Melua – Nine Million Bicycles Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| terrific song | |
| The Commodores – Easy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i actuallly think he's at ease not becuase she's leaving, but becuase he is...he has done everything he could ("I've done all I can...beg, stole, borrowed") and so he is at peace with the fact that it ain't gonna work...but I've always thought it's him walking ("why in the world would anybody put chains on me...I wanna be free") | |
| Katie Melua – Halfway up the Hindu Kush Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This is one of the best songs I’ve heard in a very long time…a real throwback...someone makes her feel so good it's like going up a majestic mountaintop... | |
| Train – Drops of Jupiter Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| the drops of jupiter she has returned with are the little sprinkles of influence from the outside world she has returned with (Mozart, etc.) | |
| Train – Drops of Jupiter Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
first off, to the couple of comments I read saying how dumb the song is, why would u take time to get on the internet to get on a page for a song u think sucks? to me it makes no sense... now on to my interpretation: I love the content. I think of a small town couple, maybe high school sweethearts and they have a very content perhaps mundane existence and the woman is restless so she wants to find herself and see if there is a whole other "universe" out there. And other than her picking up a little more "culture" that she could have picked up while with him (Tae Bo and Mozart) his point is "tell me what else you discovered that’s better than what you think is this boring life we had?" I guess she returns to him somehow, and in a way his point is thus proven. I like the lines where he's asking "what’s better than your best friends who have known and stood behind u all your all your life, what’s better than the soy lattes we get at the local café?" The outside world is overrated. And by asking her "did u make it to the Milky Way?", he’s almost mocking her in a way that’s a little sardonic and sarcastic in that he's almost equating her need to "find herself" with traveling to another galaxy, in that it's a far fetched, almost ridiculous, pointless endeavor. Why? Because ultimately you're gonna end up back at earth, i.e. where you belong. |

| Sam Cooke – A Change Is Gonna Come Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| this song was inspired by (1) hearing a socially conscious song like dylan's blowin in the wind and (2) If I'm not mistaken, Sam was dealing with his depression after the death of one of his children | |
| Blondie – The Tide Is High Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I would also add to stoolhardy's interpretation that this song makes me think of it as the female analogue to Jimmy Cliff's "you can get it if you really want" | |
| Blondie – The Tide Is High Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Stoolhardy is exactly right. And I would also add the following: I loved the song as a kid, but just recently figured out the significance of it when I randomly heard it on the radio. I think of the expression "a high tide catches all boats," meaning when something is a hot commodity or in demand, then everyone wants to "ride the wave" so to speak and catch on. In fact they use the expression "a high tide catches all boats" all the time in business to refer to hot trends or in demand products or services that everyone immediately jumps on. So to me the song is about a guy who is very desirable and she’s saying well the tide is high, meaning you are a hot commodity but I am willing to wait my turn until you are done with everyone else. | |
| Blood, Sweat & Tears – You've Made Me So Very Happy (Brenda Holloway cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| this is a tremendous, underrated song from an underrated group | |
| Mick Jagger – Old Habits Die Hard Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
and another correction is inanities (not humanities) i think this is more accurate: Old habits die hard Old soldiers just fade away Old habits die hard Hard enough to feel the pain We haven't spoken in months You see I've been counting the days I dream of such inanities, such insanities I'm lost like a kid in a maze But I've never taken your calls You see, I put the block on my phone I act like an addict, I've just got to have it I can never just leave it alone Old habits die hard Old soldiers just fade away Old habits die hard Harder than November rain Old habits die hard Old soldiers just fade away Old habits die hard Hard enough to feel the pain And I can't give you up Can't leave you alone And its so hard, so hard And hard enough to feel the pain Old habits die hard Old soldiers just fade away Old habits die hard Harder than November rain Old habits die hard Old soldiers just fade away Old habits die hard Hard enough to feel the pain |

| Switchfoot – Dare You To Move Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| if I'm not mistaken this song is about depression...that feeling where u are stagnant and basically some to a point where u must push (or dare) yourself to move forward and make something happen | |
| Five for Fighting – 100 Years Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Lead singer John Ondrasik (from their website): I recently played "The Devil In The Wishing Well" to a very close friend of mine who has a history of self harming, etc. Anyway, she was deeply moved by the song and played it nonstop for days (no I really mean it!). Along with some friendly words of advice this song helped her to confide with her mum and subsequently has resulted in her being diagnosed with depression. Now she is well on the road to recovery thanks to your music. | |
| Five for Fighting – Michael Jordan Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| similar to thier hit "superman" i think this is a song about hero worship | |
| Five for Fighting – Superman (It's Not Easy) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| this is one of those great songs that could be about alot of different things on alot of different levels... on one level it's about hero worship of celebrities or any successful person, peopel tend to put certain peope on pedestals becuase they need heroes, they need someoen to look up to but these people are also human, fallable and have thier own weaknessess and insecurities...even heroes and people u look up to need to find thier own peace of mind and need to feel like they too can fail | |
| Pink – Stupid Girls Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| and it's about time someone addressed this epidemic...for awhile i was starting to think it was just me who noticed this "shallowization" of females | |
| Pink – Stupid Girls Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| this song is so apropos for our times...there truly is an epidemic, women are becoming more and more shallow, empty, vapid and just lost in general. I take it as slightly a commentary on today's pop stars, but mostly about women in our society in general...and as much as these girls are to blame, society is also for the values they are imparting to young girls | |
| George Michael – Fastlove Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| this song is an absolute classic....it's not so well known though so some dont really know about it...but yeah, it's str8 forward, a guy was in a committed relationship, didn’t work out and now he just wants to not worry about love (and have a good ol time) – like lots of people who come out of a failed relationship, he's looking for a shallow escape from his heartbreak. classic lines include "in the absence of security, I made my way into the night" and "I miss my baby, tonight / so why don’t we make a little room in my BMW" and of course "had some bad love / so fast love is all that's on my mind". i love how it also sounds like he's trying to recruit someone else and save that person from the heartache and complexity of relationships. | |
| Gwen Stefani – Luxurious Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| well u guys need to study your music history...u might recognize the track from Notorious BIG's "big poppa" but his song isnt orignial either, its' the Isley Brothers "between the sheets"....by the way i love her references to "tuberose" and Egyptian cotton" | |
| Gwen Stefani – What You Waiting For? Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The story i've heard over and over is that Gwen was very insecure and self conscious about not only being solo, but was also a little intimidated by the caliber of producers and artists she worked with on the album (Dre 3000, Dr. Dre, Pharrell, etc.), and she caught a severe case of writer's and creative block while in the studio as a result. Her anxiety was increased when the first song she submitted to Dr. Dre (who is notoriously picky about the quality of material) was pretty much laughed at. The story goes on to mention that Eve (the rapper) helped alleviate Gwen's fears by saying look, Dr. Dre basically is hard on every artist he works with, dont take it personal. Gwen also mentioned that observing Dre 3000 crank out amazing material in the studio in about 2 minutes made her even more insecure. The part about her looking at her watch is (1) her noticing how much time was going by as she sat there completely unsure of what to write and (2)record companies get charged outrageous fees for studio time, which go against the artist's budget. So she had to get moving, and the way she snapped ultimately out of it was to give herself a pep talk, as if to say "come on Gwen, just go for it, it could be hot." And alas, a great song was born. Goes to show that with the demands and pressures of the industry, alot of these artists face the same insecurities and obstacles everyone else does. | |
| John Mayer – Daughters Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| As far as comments referring to John saying boys can be broken and how that comes across sexist, i interpret it as having a few layers: I think first off, he’s saying, look, when a boy is screwed over by bad or irresponsible parents, a great woman can “break” him and his walls, meaning a great women can nurse him back to health, a good woman can overcome a boy’s bad upbringing. But with girls, it’s a little different - she can meet the best man in the world and it wont “break” down her walls to being emotionally healthy. So in a roundabout way it’s actually a compliment to the power of a woman, because in my interpretation, a great woman can break down the walls of the most emotionally screwed up boy/man. Plus, I see a second layer to his boy/girl comparison: keep in mind, he also seems to be saying boys too would be lost if there were more absentee mothers…but the fact that people are overlooking in his comparision is that absentee mothers are not nearly as pandemic as absentee dads. Plus, the effects of an absent dad are often different on boys than they are on girls. When dads run out on their boys, there is a 50/50 chance the boy will either have issues and grow up to be flawed, or converesly, like many fatherless boys i knew, grow up to be incredible men who were actually strenghtened by the fact that their dad wasnt around and they had to be "the man" from early on. it's also 50/50 that the man will either be absent like his dad was or he will very much value his own family (which is the case with will smith who grew up fatherless). With girls however, the effect of an absent dad on thier relaitonships is more predictable. Although girls too grow up fatherless and often turn out to be incredible in terms of career or other personal accomplishments, the truth is often times they have issues with men. and usually they dont have heatlhy relaitonships, period, whether romantic, friendship or otherwise. i know an incredibly accomplished woman who despite her father's abscence managed to become this impressive person, but the truth is she doenst have healthy realtionships wit men. Thirdly, as a general statement, I think we can all accept that men and women have different emotional constitutions, and there’s nothing sexist about accepting that, it’s just true – it doesn’t imply one is weaker than the other, it’s just our emotional compositions are different. And thus the way we handle our issues manifest themselves differently. | |
| Bob Dylan – The Times They Are A-Changin' Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| among other things, this is about the civil rights movement (as well as other radical movements like the whole 60s counterculture in general where kids were starting to grow up with different ideals than thier parents.) He basically talks about the ones who are now subjugated will later rise up ("the loser now will be later to win") and how the order of society will change, i think hes' referring the civil rights movement and pecking order of society in general. | |
| Jimmy Buffett – Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| good times and riches / and son of a bitches / i've seen more than i can recall...what line is better than that? This song is full of great lines. It's a great, "reflection on life" type of song that we can all relate to | |
| Joni Mitchell – Both Sides Now Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Among other things, I think the song means from childhood to adulthood (and just thru other progressive phases of life in general), you look at things from different perspectives. As a kid, a cloud is "angel hair" or "an ice cream castle", but grown up, after having experienced life's disappointments, failures, etc., a cloud becomes something a little more ominous - something that blocks the light from entering your life. Things change, and at the end of the day, you get older but you dont really have all the answers. | |
