To me this is the "I will play my game beneath the spin light" of daisy. this song is like a reflection of his life and where music has gotten him and how he fees about it. I don't feel like pointing out all the things i see in the song right now ha, but jess has always made it seem like he feels the music industry has gave him a sort of empty feeling. The most direct thing that made me pick this thought up though is "If somehow I was new and everything was unsaid I'd go and buy a hammer, never sing again". If he could do it over he'd get a real job instead of music. The lines "Should've been a soldier I could've fought and died There's no revolution" tells me that he thought of doing something else that would have not been related to music, "fought and died" meaning that he wouldnt be who he is now if he did,but there was no reason,"revolution", that he could see at the time to not go with music as a career. |

everyone is taking this way to striaght forward.
just like most of their other songs jess uses tons of metaphors.
i think this song is about growing up, going through life and then looking back on it from a "i fucked things up" perspective". At sometime in life we all sit down and think about a few of the things we did wrong and how it made us who we are and how it could still hurt.
"Take a leap from out the window cause it's way too far to go through the door"
this does not mean somebody actually jumped out of a window. it's just about taking the easy way out of something even though you know its not a good idea.
"Cut your finger on the edge 'cause it's sharper than they told you"
even though people can tell you about things, such as growing up and entering the "real world" they can never fully prepare you for things. even though you my have been warned about something going through it is going to be worse or "sharper" than just hearing about it.
"we learn as we age, we were nothng"
as you get older you learn things and yo look back and realize that no matter what you thought at the time in the end you were nothing or the things you went through weren't as bad.
"concrete and water"
if something is seen as concrete its solid. its something we hold dear to us or think is absolutely true. water could be seen as the opposite (although i know hitting water without breaking the surface is like a solid. just sayin this so nobody uses it against me ha) it mean being confused and not knowing if its right or wrong.
this is just my opinion, if you think its right and want to know what i think about the parts i left out just say so. great song. my favorite on the whole cd. |

with this song im gonna have to go with the meaning about the gov't cover ups and just being an astronaut in general and how lonely it would to be to be in space. how then and basically only then you would realize looking down at the world that no matter how many people are down there your alone. either your alone in space or just being alone on earth in general. but one thing i think everyone is missing is this could be about an astronaut that has went up in a jet. because after you travel so high up if im not mistaken which i may be but even in a jet you can reach altitudes in which you will be awarded astronaut wings. i dont think the black box means things like a tv or cover ups but a blox box is the thing in a craft that records everything like data and such. in this case it could be a govt covering up what the blck box from a craft really said and telling the people what they wantd it to say. maybe alittle out there but tell me what you think. |

i think a general interpretation of this song would be about those times that it just seems like everything or everyone is getting to you all at once. like say your girl friend gets mad at you for somehting. then your bestfriend gets mad at you for it.i see this in the part where it says about the feeding frenzy and the fire. its just one person starts on you and its like a damn feeding frenzy everyone is on your back about something. as for some of the other parts, its like how when all these people are on you, you just feel so alone or quarentined. thats just one of my thoughts on the song and its meaning to me |

To me this song isnt exactly about jesse loosing his faith in god but more of the fact that he's grown up more and realized that things change and through these changes god has done nothing for him. One change being him and his friends dont talk as much anymore. And another being that he isnt the same guy that used to make his parents pround, as in he made a mistake that made them reallyupset with him. And now "god" wont hit the brakes and take the time to help him with this mistake and other ones he's made growing up. |

yeh i though of donnie darko to but i doubt he meant it to its just a good line i can relate cus i wonder all the time if we all do just die alone in the end no matter what friends we have or whatever but about the song....I think this song is about how everyone listens to these song and even if you can relate to the songs and if your just the girl panicing your never gonna know what it feels like or how hard it is to get on a stage every night and tell you deepest secrests and feelings and i think other parts are about missing you family at home but making new bond on tour that you couldnt break. I thought the harpoon part was about everything is set up and ready to go but your still uneasy about no matter how protected you are im sure if you had to go into the water and kill a shark no matter what you had you wouldnt feel ok about it and it doesnt say who the waters red from if he killed the shark or the shark killed him thats as far as i got on that if anyone thinks the same mayb they can proceed with it |

I think this video makes sense because the song makes it seem like he had sex only to be like his friends cus how it says "what he learned from his friends he doesnt feel so prepared" and i think the vid is showing this. In the beggining he is running away from something like alot of people are when they just start following others like if you have a problem like being a virgin your gonna take the easy way out and do like everyone else and just have sex but in the end of the vid it all turns on him and its showin that after all its not what he wanted and something bad is now happening to him. Thats just my take on it |
