i think the song was simply a clever thought that taupin came up with close to Bowies "major tom" lyric. i think it grew from that to tell the simple story of his realization that whatever life they were leading before, it is about to come to an abrupt ending. kind of like being caught up in the rise to the top and then going "you know what, it's gonna be awhile before anything is ever normal again". |

well, to say that its about a 16 year old prostitute is to say the sun is hot. it's taupin's attempt of being on the inside and trying to connect with elton john's battles with his sexuality. it has more to do with guilt and anxiety than anything else. not over his sexuality, but with the fear of being perceived as being immoral. |
