Damien Rice – Amie Lyrics 20 years ago
‘Story of O’ is a novel (if you could call it that) by the same name. It has nothing to with Shakespeare or Othello.
When he says ‘read me the story of O’ I’m afraid he means that rather literally. Although the interpretation is layered, it can be interpreted as sexual foreplay or as a fodder for a heated intellectual argument.

Nick Drake – Cocaine Blues Lyrics 20 years ago
A beautiful song, a part of the Tanworth-in-Arden CD, it’s got some fantastic cover versions of all time favorite songs, like ‘summertime’, and ‘Don't Think Twice, It's Alright’.

John Mayall And The Blues Breakers – What'd I say Lyrics 20 years ago
I am really surprised nobody has yet commented on any of the John Mayall songs. Hailed as the pioneer of Brit boogie, his former band-mates are all who’s who of rock. This particular song was made popular by ray Charles, but check out this version if you are a blues and rock fan; it is too good to miss.

Pink Floyd – Jugband Blues Lyrics 20 years ago
I feel this song and his later songs like ‘Here I Go’ can totally disprove the madness theory. He is clearly well aware of the negative PR his band mates were putting him through, and only chose to defend himself through his lyrics.

and I never knew the moon could be so big
and I never knew the moon could be so blue
The moon (madness) here is not real but supposed. Therefore he is overwhelmed by the power of such an allegation, as he says he had no idea how big and blue it could be. I feel the rest of the lyrics also follow a similar idea. Although at first glance it seems like an ambition of madness.

Sorry, I do not mean to over-analyze the song. It is beautiful and does not need any explanation, and is open to interpretation, just as Syd intended.

Syd Barrett – Here I Go Lyrics 20 years ago
The song totally sums up syd’s attitude towards his former band-mates. It is hard to miss the cynicism in "a big band is far better than you" through his later songs he has almost ‘defended’ his later decision to lead the life of a recluse. As early as Jugband Blues he toying with the idea, “I’ll do my loving in the winter” is a clear indication of that. At the same time there is no denying that he was almost pushed into it by his ‘friends’.

Syd Barrett – Bob Dylan Blues Lyrics 20 years ago
A really witty song, this song has quite a history and was released fairly recently. Turns out, Syd was a Dylan fan at some point. This song could fool you into thinking otherwise.
