Pretty simple: song is sung from the perspective of the Catholic God. I don't think that I need to elaborate points, since they have basically all been explained before me. |

| The Killers – Sam's Town Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I think that this song is a transition from Hot Fuss to Sam's Town. It starts off with a very Hot Fuss-type sound, a British Rock type, and then it changes and slows down and become more western. Brandon loses his accent in relation to Hot Fuss, and then he sings: I see London, I see Sam's Town. Holds my hand up, Lets my hair down. It's slower. More Sam's Town. Then, the Enterlude welcomes you to "Sam's Town". Is this song a transition, possibly? From Lond to Sam's Town, Las Vegas? |

| Caesars – Jerk It Out Lyrics | 19 years ago |

This song actually has a rather deep meaning. It uses the metaphor of maturbation to signify life and everything you might do in it. One will start doing something in life and you'll keep doing it. Even if you know its wrong, you'll keep doing it for the little joy or pleasure it brings you. You end up not caring about what the world thinks about you, you are off center and out of tune. The fist verse probably tells a sort of story. It says "Wind me up put me down start me off and watch me go I'll be running circles around you sooner than you know" This may talk abou a relationship where the girl (presumably) got him all sexed up and then left him. Then he masturbated. Just like in real life, but the verb masturbate can be replaced with other things. You can be sad forever bcause it pleases you, etc, etc. In the end, he sees that the only thing he has is masturbation (or the replacable verb) and he is fine with it. He "talks too loud" (poss. meaning that he just does things crazily and with out consideration) just like one may do if you are just concentrated on masturbation. I just think that this isnt just about masturbation, but it uses masturbation as a metaphr instead. |

| The Killers – Under the Gun Lyrics | 20 years ago |

This song is me. I do not think it's about a girl who cumped a guy and is now toying with him, but something a bit more complicated yet simple. I think this is about a guy who dumped a girl for a reason like he didn't feel comfortable about one thing, then thought he realized what he had done, realized what a great relationship they had had. He is so conflicted and keeps trying to apologize and just go back to how things were, but she won't let him. The matter hangs in his mind always and never leaves, not even if he "moves on". He is almost cursed to love her forever, yet never find that true love again. He would rather die than live like this. Kill me now. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – What Sarah Said Lyrics | 20 years ago |

"and i looked around at all the eyes on the ground as the tv entertained itself" I think that this is talking about how the tv's purpose is to satisfy the eyes who watch it, but instead, while these eyes are "on the ground" or somewhere low that it has to close off from the world to do what it needs to do. This is a lot like relationhsips, kinda... like, if one person only loves this one other person, but if that other person is gone, mentally or physically, they can still cannot do anything other than hopelessly loving that other person. |

| The Shins – The Celibate Life Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
The choice of almost a double negative is very interesting."no celibate life" could be talking about how there is a need or want for a celibate life, or at least a life of virginity from something, it need not be sex, as megggan made a point of. The chemicals referred to here could very easily be just representing the easy way out of the situation that they are faced with after breaking their celibate llife, something that, as stated before, may have been better than now. The bit about the mouse may be along the same "easy way out" track, but it is showing the taking the easy way out is hard (I know it doesnt make sense). It shows that you need to reduce yourself, to resort to looking at all the less-than-great things in this world, the cracks in the floor, in order to get around, like most drugs and other "easy ways" do entitle the user to. Just my take at the moment. |

| The Shins – Saint Simon Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| hmm.. just a thought... what if "mercy's eyes are blue" was showing how rare mercy is? Blue eyes are rare in humans, being quite recessive, and it could be showing that mercy cannot always be there, but, when it is, it is beautiful. | |
| Modest Mouse – Ocean Breathes Salty Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Just about the title and the corresponding lyrics -- I believe that "Ocean Breathes Salty" is a way to describe life. It gives you something that is often considered beautiful, the ocean. The ocean is a lot like life. In all its beauty, it also had a burning, salty portion. Whenever you breath in on the ocean, the air is salty, as life tends towards defaced beauty. | |
| The Killers – Jenny Was a Friend of Mine Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I was just thinking while listening to this song, that it could possibly have two meanings. One is almost definitly telling the story of the actual murder. But, there could be anoher meaning. It could be saying something along the line of "murder ofthe soul" and is telling about how Jenny was changed so much by something that she was almost dead to him. Thus the line "I swore I'd never let her go" almost to himself, telling himself that there was no change, even though he knew deep inside. It could also show how he thought (see the third interpretation of "She couldn;t scream while I held her close"), giving childlike promises, saying I'll never let you go away, etc. "There ain't no motive for this crime" could be meaning that, simply, the "crime" was volentary. "She couldn't scream while I held her close" is very deep if observed in this fashion. It could mean that she would never be given the stimulus to the change if he had just protected her from whatever it was, and this line is simply him saying over and over to himself that he made a mistake and wouldn't ever forgive himself for doing so. It could also signnify the blindness that they had even when the change was not yet realized. He was so close to her, so close that he could have heard a metaphorical whisper, but yet, he was not able to hear her scream (scream, meaning she was in pain, emotionally). He also wanted it to stay this way. This line could also show the sort of clutch shown when people are messed up in the head and someone close to them has died (in this case, metaphorically) they just keep holding on to them, talking to them as if they were still alive, totally denying the fact that the person is gone forever. | |
| R.E.M. – The Worst Joke Ever Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| What does 1954 signify in this song? Hydrogen bomb testing? McCarthy? Does this have a connection with the "cat burglar"? | |
| R.E.M. – Around the Sun Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think that one may also note the fact that, once the Earth "Take(s) another trip around the sun" another year has passed. This could be signifying a similar meaning of "holding on" that caitsith01 described. | |
