I happen to have a woman. The Tolkien reference is not a metaphor. Zeppelin based many of their songs directly off Tolkien writings, otherwise there would be no need to use direct references to the texts. There are actually three or so more songs based directly off LOTR or the Hobbit- Over the Hills and Far Away, Misty Mountain Hop, The Battle of Evermore, and mabye others. This song and the others contain more than figurative language. I guess you're just a poet and you didn't know it. But your feet do; they're Longfellows. |

This song is pretty sweet. I particularly like the live version of it in the Central Park Concert. Kinda interesting to note that this song probably contains the most references to substance abuse and loose sex (possible exception of Jimi Thing) of any Dave song. Still, this song ROCKS! |

YOU ARE ALL WRONG!!!!!! This song is actually a dual reference to drugs and Tolkien's The Hobbit. Lemme explain. First off, when he was"Walkin in the park just the other day baby...Crowds of people sittin on the grass with flowers in their hair" is a reference to Bilbo in the Shire, living out his peaceful life. "Hey boy, do you wanna score" is one of the first dual references, in that it symbolizes Gandalf asking Bilbo to go on their trek to Eriador, and also hippies offering the narrator some dope. The next stanza is mostly about drugs, with a great quote by a "bobbie" officer as they call them in the U.K. Then, the next part about tea is another Hobbit reference, with Gandalf saying that "his friends (Thorin and Company, the dwarves)would all drop by." Then some more talk about a person getting high, and then another Hobbit reference, with "You really don't care if they're coming-I know that its all a state of mind" referring to Bilbo's acceptance of the Grey Wizard's proposition. Next stanza is definitely dual meaningful, in that the "folk down there who really don't care which way the pressure lies" are either a group of hippies or the elves in Rivendell. And finally, the song ends with Bilbo packing his bags for the Misty Mountains, which in the Hobbit itself are the Iron Hills/ The Lonely Mountain, but could also be interpreted as the narrator getting toasted. |

And no, classic rock girl, when the "leaves are falling all around, and it was time he was on his way" actually describes Frodo's departure with the Fellowship of the Ring from Rivendell. |

No, this song is definitely about the Lord of the Rings. When he meets the girl in the "darkest depths of Mordor", Frodo finally becomes overpowered by the temptations of the Ring of Power, and puts it on. When "Gollum, the evil one, creeps up and slips away with her", thats when Gollum bites off Frodo's ring finger. |
