i think its kinda like hes looking back on being the rock and roll wild child and changing his ways. kicking off the drugs (apparentely drugs of certain types can cause stutters, explanging his choice of ch-ch-ch in the chorus, kind of like an in-joke). "still dont know what i was waiting for" i look back now and i dont understand it now any more than i did then...something like that |

IMHO i dont think this is a very personal Waits song, just about a guy and a girl and possibly he has been away for some time in which she has moved on but when he returns she feels love for him but he is telling her not to "you have found another baby i must go away" is where im getting this from. |
