I don't think the meaning is that chirpy. I think his love is fading. It's still there, but she's not the girl she used to be and he's trying to revive her optimism, trying to help her see that we only live once (ie. it's now or never) and one day we'll be gone forever so make the most of it now! To put it simpler, she's turned quite boring... but he stilll loves her... he just wants the old her back! i reckon... Mumm-Ra's is one of the best albums i've heard in a long time! Gutted they split... |

Comrade, overthinking it just a little. I agree with Sundaykindagirl - best to leave it to our imaginations, leave them in the song. This is one of those rare songs where the first time you hear it will always be the best. When I first heard that line, "Miss, is this your book that you left?" I just thought - wow... awesome!! Best song on the album by a mile and brilliant live. |

I think the woman has found herself thinking of somebody else and wants to be honest to her partner, giving her gun when it's loaded meaning, i've told you the truth, now, balls in your court. She hasn't cheated, but he has, and when she's been honest with him he's honest back and spills all - so the tables are turned and now it's the man that's giving her the loaded gun, ie. i've told you the truth, now it's up to you... They're both confessing to their small "crimes" in this song. It is beautiful. |

If she told you that at a gig it's probably true, but I will always perceive it as how I did when I first heard it, which is that she's singing about herself. Now that she's famous, she suddenly sees that it's where she wants to be, why it meant so much for her to keep at it and never quit. The lines "I can see her eyes looking from a page in a magazine Oh she makes me feel like I could be a tower A big strong tower yeah" to me say she's seeing herself in a magazine and it sinks in that she finally made it to the big time, and she feels she can take on the world. That's just what I've always thought! |

Hmm, I'm gonna disagree with all of you. I think Kate is dead in this song, and she's assuring her widowed partner that she is OK, and that it's actually a far better place after life. She can see him suffering because of her death and she hates seeing him like that, she wants to be the one suffering with him being free in heaven. Just my thoughts. |

I'm guessing the law is different in the States, but here in the UK the legal age for sex is 16+. I can relate to this song very much at the moment because I've just started seeing a girl of 15. I'm19 myself, by the way. She was waitressing in my local pub, but was serving alcohol as well - so when I started to chatting to her I really did think she was 18+. Turns out she's just 15, despite looking, dressing and acting my age. I'm not going to have sex with her (least not until she's 16) but if I ever got tempted I'd listen to this song! And to top it off, it's a great little r'n'b tune. I love City High :-) |

It's a lovely song and a very original idea. The only niggle I have with it is the last verse. How does she know it's him calling? It would have been a nasty twist if there'd been another verse on the end "I'm flattered Mam but please you know I'm married with kids, Do you always come on to the gas men like this?" hehe But that's just me being cheeky.
