after watching the music video for this song and already having a vague idea of the meaning of the song, the part in the video where the martians have the two lovers tied up and they glance longingly at each other and break free stood out as a strong metaphor and i immediately recognized this as being the meaning of the song... take control of your destiny and don't let life take you prisoner. each moment is yours to savour and control. dont simply accept what comes to you but rather take your confidence and self will and use it to be where you want to be. in short, if you lead a passive attitude towards life instead of fighting for what you love then life will pass you by. i think the narrator of these words has just come to this realization and is making the most of the night

i think that although this song may have some pretty ambiguous undertones referring to drugs, alot of things can sound like they refer to drugs (flying, falling, escape etc) in my opinion, this song is all about just letting go and breaking free from the barriers set by society and just doing your own thing. it could very well be drugs he is referring to though which is what he is using to set his mind free and allowing him to fly... I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings Coming down is the hardest thing maybe he's been pretty pessimistic his entire life or has just given in and hasn't thought for himself and he's just beginning to understand that everyone's free so he's just getting the hang of optimism. the coming down part is a pretty strong reference to drugs, but could also refer to depression or restraints holding him down from breaking free and flying.

this song completely sums up adolescent sexuality... the excitment, the tension, the awkwardness and anxiety. the imagery in the first verse is amazing. gotta be one of my fave songs of all time, theres just such an element of honesty and fun in it. Ain't no doubt about it, we were doubly blessed 'Cause we were barely seventeen and we were barely dressed haha great line...i love it all :-p

this song is so rad. the shrills of the gal singers, weird-ass vocalision of fred schneider, and crazy surf guitar make this song extremely whack but equally amusing to listen to. no idea what it means, but it does sound like an "all out party of sea creatures" like stoolhardy said.

although this song seems to have a pretty straightforward connotation it seems to me that there is a sexual undertone, more specifically the act of giving oral sex to a woman. also the very repetitve rhythm of the song gives it a very constructed, ordered feel. maybe it's just me :-p but it seems like reasonable symbolism.
