Regina Spektor – AB Lyrics 17 years ago
Does this mean I've finally found someone as clumsy as I am? This sounds just like me!

The Beatles – Eight Days a Week Lyrics 18 years ago
This song has kindled (except it was more like a complete explosion) my appreciation of Beatles' intros, themes & outros in their songs - even the early ones have that little bit of sophistication in them. In 8 Days especially, they just tease you with the intro & outro, which I think are just perfect and should be a minute long each... but while these are so short, they open the doorway to all the other amazing musical elements.

Chipper Beatles' songs like this one can never fail to put a smile on my face, especially if I'm watching a vid of them. They were such fun guys!

The Beatles – I Feel Fine Lyrics 18 years ago
I don't see how people are seeing this as a love song. The girl seems to be using him for material goods; while he's glad to have her, she's glad to tell everyone how he's buying things for her. He does seem so happy and so unaware, but you see little hints slipping through. He's going by her say-so in the relationship and being lead about by the heartstrings, but really he's just being used.

So there is a much darker tone to this song than it would initially appear. I find myself feeling uneasy about this song on the chanteur's behalf sometimes! But the intro and theme in the guitar playing is awesome, of course.

Sarah Harmer – Around This Corner Lyrics 20 years ago
I think Sarah said tshe wrote this song after she happened to see someone she was afraid of...

I can relate, there are some people you just don't want to see again after the experiences you've had with them.

Fiona Apple – Not About Love Lyrics 20 years ago
I definitely like the leaked version (with the strings) better, although the riffs in the chorus of the 'official' song are pretty cool.

I think the version of lyrics on this page

are far more accurate. This site SO needs a 'Correct Lyrics' function.

Gosh, the drive in this song! I love it just for the venom.

Pavement – Best Friend's Arm Lyrics 20 years ago
This song always makes me smile. The jubilant babbling and the way the drum beat comes in at the beginning ("One, two, three, four!") are just awesome.

Keep it under your best friend's arm.

Eve 6 – Showerhead Lyrics 20 years ago
This song always reminds me of Margaret Atwood's novel "The Edible Woman". I listened to the album while reading the novel, plus there just happens to be a bathtub scene in it...

Pavement – Kennel District Lyrics 20 years ago
Went back to look at the older version of "Kennel District" found on "Crooked Rain x2: LA's Desert Origins". A lot less sophisticcated lyrics, and all over the place when it comes to tune. I transcribed it just to have:

Doesn't look like she wears the suit
She's got no scars in her eyes
When she talks to you it looks like
She's got something to hide
Did she bust you in the gut that time
That time I said 'I know it's true'?
Why didn't I ask? why didn't I ask?
Why didn't I ask? why didn't I ask?

I can't believe she's married to roe
I would have turned down the light
And she really likes you a lot this time
I guess that makes it all right.
I wanted to stay there
But you know I needed more than that
Why didn't I ask? why didn't I ask?
Why didn't I ask? why didn't I?

[awoo]
Why didn't I ask? why didn't I ask? etc.

Jet – You Don't Look The Same Lyrics 20 years ago
Kind of in the same vein as "Look What You've Done", which is about the dad cheating and then leaving the family. This time, the dad has an obligation to explain to the woman in the song and the son needs to hear it, but when the dad doesn't, the son gets disillusioned with him.

Jet – Bruises Lyrics 20 years ago
After I sent this song to a friend of mine who it reminded me of, I was wondering if it was about depression.

Another issue it might be about (probably isn't, but the song still works for this) is abuse. Yes, the "bruises" part is why I'm speculating that it is. The victim keeps "changing [their] mind" about whether to say anything and doesn't know what will help, ie "everything's nothing I need". The bells might be yet another wake-up call that he doesn't know whether to follow or not.

It's a good song, especially if you want to feel down in the dumps or something.

Pavement – Rattled By The Rush Lyrics 20 years ago
I think it's more about after someone experiences sex (it's not hard to see if you're looking) for the first time, and feeling guilty (the references to prayer) and "rattled by the rush" at the same time.

Pavement – Kennel District Lyrics 20 years ago
This is an uncharacteristically beautiful song. It's not written by Malkmus like most of Pavement's songs, but rather by Spiral Stairs. These lyrics make a lot more sense than the "she wears the seek" I've been puzzling over for days; I like the "It's got more stars than the sky" version of the lyrics better, though.

Anyway, this song is about lost love; the singer keeps getting put off by the one he wants until it's too late. Perhaps he realizes afterwards that he'd been looking at the situation the wrong way; if he had, instead of maybe just been obsessed with loving her, tried to get to know her or paid attention (asked), they could've turned out all right.

Although after looking at the "rope" line, it seems as if she's hung herself, the impetus of this song appears to be that after she's gotten herself into a completely different, irretrievable situation, they meet up again and he realizes what happened and regrets it.

Pavement – Grounded Lyrics 20 years ago
Definitely one of, if not THE, best Pavement song out there. I read somewhere that it's Malkmus' "tribute to his doctor", who bought German cars, or something.

I thought the line was "he phoned the fallen daughter", though; I got my lyrics from http://www.lyricsfreak.com/p/pavement/106286.html . The version there fits better.

IMO, this song is about doctors at those American hospitals (having healthcare, my mind goes towards America) who have lost sight of what they wanted to get out of their jobs, who "never complain" about how bad their lives are but feel entitled to sympathy for it, and are leading lives of rich wastrels which they're terrified will fall apart. *deep breath* In the meantime, the people who need help aren't getting it.
