I think she's leaving her boyfriend (she's taking her care and her coat with her) and after she walks out the door, she wants the light of the moon to guide her. The moon is more docile companion (such a lovable lamb). And since she just up and left the boyfriend, it's a clean break, but things are still messy/dirty. |

I think CowboyDanCarson is totally on the money about this song being about spending time in jail -- but i'm assuming it's about the rape charge instead of attempted murder. that's what the lyrics "tow the line to tax the time you know you don't owe/i can't be a fool for everyone i don't know" are all about. he's not guilty of the charge, so he shouldn't be owing time and people will make assumptions about him since he had to spend time in jail for it, hence being a "fool" etc. |
