| Bright Eyes – At the Bottom of Everything Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
The intro to this song is great. It sets the stage flawlessly and plays an integral part in the song. What Conners is doing I think is commenting on the value of death; specifically transcendance. I recall an episode of "This American Life" on NPR in which a woman talks about a very bumpy planeride that she didn't think she was going to survive. During that flight, she came to know her fellow passengers in a way few people ever know anyone, all without really speaking. The song speaks about many things, but they all point to a moment of realization; a realization of what is important, what is not and how we all fit into this picture. The last line "I'm happy just because I found out I am really no one" seems to sum it all up nicely. To truly realize this simple thing can be very liberating and wonderful. |

| Bright Eyes – Lua Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I really don't care what disorder or addiction he's talking about. I'm not even sure it's all that important. If it was, he would have been more specific. What's important to me is that this is a beautiful, well written song. I've only recently discovered Bright Eyes, but was instantly blown away and hooked. He might be the Next Bob Dylan. Provided he doesn't overdose or under-eat.... |

| Eminem – Drug Ballad Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I love this song too. It's incredibly funny and clever. I think this song exemplifies Em's ability to rhyme in his own unique way. Who else has ever put together a rhyme like "tomorrow you're probably gonna wanna do it again. What's a little spinal fluid between you and a friend?" Screw it! You know what I mean. The guy is a lyrical genius. | |
| Nick Drake – Place To Be Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This is the second Nick Drake song I ever heard. The first being Pink Moon of course from the car commercial. I heard this song while listening to a broadcast of "This American Life" on national public radio. It was the first show after 9/11, a very somber show to say the least. The song fits perfectly. It's about lost innocence, feeling incredibly vulnerable and weak, and just wanting a hole to crawl into "a place to be". This was how we felt during those months after 9/11. A beautiful song as always; Nick Drake could make no other. |

| James Taylor – Baby Buffalo Lyrics | 20 years ago |

The first post says it well. This is a song that stirs very deep feelings in me, though I wouldn't call them emotions, if that means anything to you. There is a sense of transcendance and something infinite within this song that I can't put into words. James Taylor is simply amazing as a songwriter. |

| Nick Drake – Road Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I love this song so much, and everything else Nick wrote. I agree that it's a song about his acceptance, or devotion or whatever to his angst. I can completely understand what he means. It's not that he was necessarily depressed and angry about anything. It's just that this is how he saw the world for better or worse. | |
| Colin Hay – Waiting For My Real Life To Begin Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Colin Hay just isn't appreciated as much as he should be. He is an incredible songwriter and why more people don't know about him, I'll never understand. At least he's getting more exposure thanks to the TV show Scrubs. They've done about 3 or 4 of his songs. This song is certainly about a wrestless man who wants more in life. However I don't necessarily see any folly in his stubborness. For some reason I completey sympathize and even agree with the man. I suppose this might mean there is some kind of acceptance of his own inability to accept things, as if to say "this is how I am. I won't change and so I'll keep hoping". It's tragic and beautiful at the same time. Colin Hay really is amazing. That's all I'm saying... |

| Oasis – Half The World Away Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think it's a song about getting stuck in a rut, feeling trapped in a town that no longer holds any promise, and realizing that things won't change unless you do something about it. In this case, leave. This song is also featured at the beginning of the last episode in the "Spaced" series that ran in the UK. Very poignant! I think it's a great song. |
