| Albert Hammond Jr. – Bright Young Thing Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
The lyrics printed here are actually to the song: "Call an Ambulance" "Bright Young Thing" is another song on the album. Perhaps the link is off or something. Love the line: You can't trust what I say to you I know they're all lies Do you does it therefore imply a double negative, and he is lying about only telling lies? |

| Albert Hammond Jr. – 101 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I am not sure, and the album sleeve doesn't have the lyrics printed in it, but I think the lyric might be: "I caught the 101" therefore referencing the highway. Albert is originally from CA, and it might be kind of a returning home kind of thing, or maybe trying to return to someone. The whole album deals a lot with relatioships and change. Catch him in concert if you can---def an awesome show!! | |
| The Strokes – Red Light Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| this is one of my faves off the album, too. it has really grown on me since i first heard it. i think that this song could be about a gril who has just been "discovered" like for show biz. at least, the latter part of the song seems like that. the part about the light being red and the camera bbeing on--tha tseems like a video camera in recor mode. then the advice to get a lawyer and a gun....both for protection. i am not sure how well this idea fits with the rest of the son, though. it does, indeed souond rather obsessive and stlker-ish. also, is the red belt perhaps a reference to Orwell's 1984 and the women in the cult of virginity? this could go along with the childhood's end can be so competitive..... | |
| Franz Ferdinand – Michael Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| what if Michael is his name for his penis?? you never know. i know pleanty of guys who have named their peni. It could be some kind of pep talk. plus, all of the sticky lips, and stuble....sounds kind of genitaliaesque/penisesque to me.......not that i am opposed to the homoerroticism of the song, i mean anyway, it is hot. | |
| The Strokes – Evening Sun Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Ok, sorry for thinking that the lyric was mis-quoted, I, too have the 'bookie' and just re-read it....I guess that it just sounds a little different, and yeah. And, I am not here to dispuet the Juliet theory--merely trying to bring form New Critical theory to the lyric, seeing as I think that Julian is one of the best lyricists out there right now, and also in many regards an example of a 21st century poet. I don't think that we need to make such blatant assumptions, and tha tmaybe we should look beyond that obvious for osmething deeper, or maybe even more interesting. I am not doubting Juliet's influence, nor aam I doubting the love that she and Julkian might have for one another---just in my English-major kind of way suggesting that we not take things at face value...... | |
| The Strokes – Evening Sun Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| and one other quich thing. methinks the lyric is misquoted, it should be "I like the sum, miss the summer" I think that this is a reference to the previous lyric--"I don't want to break your heart, break your heat in two halves. Keep one half, and give one half to me" and then he likes the sum of the deal. He is trying to ensure that he will forever have one half of her heart, he wants to know that a part of her will always love him, because he is pretty sure that a part of him will wlays love her. kinda sweet | |
| The Strokes – Evening Sun Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I, too enjoy the calmness of this track. I must say, though that it is rather naive of us to automatically think that anything that Julian writes is about Juliette. He is in essence a poet, and could really be talking about anyone, or no one. Anyway, since so many of the lyriccs have to do with the summer, and about being young, like 17 (17 is an oddly magic age, I think everyone loves being 17 in some way or another) so, perhaps from the perspecive of being a 17 year old guy. When he says that he loves her more than being 17, he, in his own little way is saying that he loves her more than anything, perhaps even more than himself, and his youth, and everythig else in his life at the time, and she is his best memory about being 17. anyway, to get to my point, this is a song about relfecting on and remembering a summer fling. They might meet again, they might not, but every time he sees the sun set in the evening, perhaps on a summer's night, he thinks about this special girl and about that special summer. | |
| The Strokes – Vision Of Division Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| for starters, I like the driving riff with the wailing of "how long must I wait" oohhh, the misery of under-requited love. really like this one, a lot | |
| The White Stripes – Forever For Her (Is Over For Me) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i think that yeah, the guy screwed up, in some way, but it was the girl who eventually cut off the relationship, and told him that it was over forever, as in never getting back together. now, he wants to change her mind, he wan't to reverse the idea of forever in her mind--meaning that she wants to be forever apart, and he wants her back. | |
| Weezer – Island In The Sun Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| While sometimes, this reminds me of a bit of an inside joke involving a sometimes awkward friend and senior year of high school, I recently rediscovered it, and have been musing over it for a while, now. At friest, I thought yeah, great song, islands in the sun, being on holiday, the fact that it was holiday, and not vacation, and how when we go away for a long time, those who were not there with you, will never understand what happened to you. And, I thuoght about waht a lovely romantic holiday this would be, with some very hot guy who sails, etc--the footlose idea of running away forever, etc. Then I started thinking about how there is something very poingnet about the rather minor chords and such against what should be rather happy lyrics. So, there is the happy and the sad aspect, and really, I think that it is about the troubles of the riche, tring to get away, and just have fun, but longing for something meaningful to come from that fun. Kind of ina Fitzgerald way. Sorry for the rambeling. | |
| The Strokes – Under Control Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think that this is in many ways my fave. Storkes song, merely because it is so damn true. Young love is out of control, and eventually you realize that you are wasting your time, and therefore don't want to waste the other's time. Sometimes, it feels and sounds stupid, but you want to simply watch the one you love(ed) so much just go by, simply because it was all too much. Yeah, I am speaking from expirence. Forget young love--it can really suck. | |
| The Strokes – 12:51 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Ok, first of all, a brief disclaimer---i am an Ami, and didn't know what 40s really were at first. I mean after a lot of thought, and some research, I realized that they are those cheap cans of beer that you can get at a gas station. University students especially think they are great, and there are all sorts of great games to be played with 40s. I agree with many others that this song is about two people having sex for the first time. I think that it is about people who were maybe once underage, or maybe things weren't able to work out because before one or both were too young, I do however think that they are still somewhaat young, in that they have to wait until one's "folks are away" and all of that, so they are still living at home, and lyig about going to parties, and getting drunk off of cheap beer someone probably had to buy for them, and sneaking off to have sex. It is kind of a sexy song, though, saying things like, hey I amolder now, so maybe you are interested...so I told your friend to tell you that I am still interested, and then Friday nights have been lonely. I donno, it sounds good to me..... |

| The Strokes – Meet Me In The Bathroom Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I love this song, and there are some great lines, the best being the ones that jazzy88 posted. Here is a new idea, though....a pregnancy scare. She is staring wide eyed, people are never on time, it is true....meet me in the bathroom....now what are they going to do, since they are just two fucks in lust.... | |
| Blur – Coffee & TV Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song is first of all, amazing. I love it. I see it as being slightly melancholy, but with hope. THe narrator is singing/speaking/pleading to the love of his life, saying now that the two of them have been everywhere, done everything, seen so much, holding out their hearts to losers who never cared about them, etc that now all he wants to do is to settle down, finally. The world has been seen, and there is really nothing better for them but each other. He says, just give me coffee and tv, two very simple, if not homey things of comfort. He wants to have them start their lives over again, and he wants them to be together. Maybe they had been together before, maybe not, but htey have known one another for sometime. He is almost pleading with her to accept his proposal, and create a life with him, which would be simple, but in that simplicity more fulfilling than any other way of life---he is done with craziness and excitement ofthe world, and just wants the simplicity of love and home. | |
| The Killers – Mr. Brightside Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| alright, my thoughts on this song are more or less the same, but a little different. "Coming out of my cage" I think means having had a first sexual expirence. This guy has finally found a girl, thinks he is in love, and either has a first sexual expirence, or a first meaningful sexual expirence. This gilr is a little more expirenced, though as is recently out of a long term relationship. One night they are out together, and the girl runs into her ex. They are still maybe friendly, or perhaps out of habbit or something, they just kiss, a friendly, innocent kiss, and this drives the new boy insane, and jealousy takes over. Suddenly, his mind and thoughs are overcome with images of her with her ex. Now, he know what the ex looks like, and that the ex exists. He has nightmares, or nightmareish visions of her sleeping with the ex, which drive him mad. He is succum by jealousy and cannot overcome it. Jealousy can be so powerful, and really sucks.... | |
| The Strokes – Someday Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| oh, and one more thing---"you say you want to stay by my side, darling, your head's not right" this is a relationship that obviously just causes pain, and the narrator is sick of the pain, and needs the other to realize that this relationship really needs to end. | |
| The Strokes – Someday Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think that this song is actually about people who are a little older than people trying to grow up and get over childhood. It is about two people who are very much in love, but their relationship is not working out for one reason or another. The main personna says "it hurts to say, but I want you to stay, someitime, sometimes" that is such an amazing line. The narrator knows that he/she still loves the other perosn, althoug is maybe not "in love" with the other anymore, but still needs the support. The narrator recognizes that when together things fall apart, but when the twoare appart, they make it work. Their relationship was too intense, and they are going seperate ways. The narrator feels smothered and trapped in the relationship. Confused, and hurt, the ex claims the narrator is lackiing in depth, which just adds to the over all hurt of this song. It hurts both people when a realtionship ends, adn falls apart for whatever reason. Another fave line is "promises they break before they're made" that to me means that they has more or less promised to always be together, but never actually said the words, they just kind of asumed it, and now it is obvously not the case. I think also, that "the good old days" are the present in this song, and that someday these two will miss the time they spent together, or even in the futrue miss the fact that they didn;t stay together. It is a recognition that the decision that the narrator has made to split, and go seperate ways may be the biggest mistake the narrator has ever made, but that at the time it is the only thing that makes sense. TO me, this is the end of a college relationship, not the end of a high school relationship. College relationships are weird in that people make too much happen too fast, move in with their lovers, and play house, assuming they have found their ones, and that they are going to get married. Then things begin to fall apart due to seperate dreams, carreer paths, etc. I have always liked this song, but right now, I love this song. I just ended a relationship. I should have just turned this song on, instead of trying to explain how I felt. I love the Strokes. I think that the use of complex and sometimes ambigious lyrics against rather simplistic rock is pure genious. Cannot wait for the third album!! | |
| The Strokes – Barely Legal Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Well, yes the Strokes, and Julian make us all want to have sex. I saw them live once, and damn taht was hot. Anyway, I have spent a lot of time thinking about this song, and here is what i have come up with: It is about a girl who is just now 18, and therefore thinks that she has a little power, because although she is just barely legal, she is indeed now legal. Enter the song't narrator. Maybe in his mid to later 20s, he has really screwed up everything. Out of luck, out of money, and confused about where his life is going, and abnout what to do next. Somehow these two people at these strange stages of their lives meet, and it all happens. A tumutlous relationship ensues, in which this girl, a virgin, and who has never really had a boyfirend before believes that finally she has met some great man, and expects to have a mature relationship, but at the same time has no idea what this means, so she is fine in this strange relationship inwhich, he doesn't show up on weekdays, won't tell her his age (today's the day when I was born) a guy who only wants to satisfy his own needs ( I want to steal your innosence, i just want to mis-a-behaive, etc) but her needs are totally overlooked (he says: you won't leave me alone, you just ask for more) Things get more complicated, though.....He tells her finally "drive you to work and you'll be on tiime" to me, this is an allusion to a pregnancy scare, which of course makes the two a little nervous, he not wanting anythig other than to have sex with a younger girl in order to attempt tp give his life meaning, and her not exactly in any position for anything like this. He is willing, though to let this problem be his and not hers, as if he will right it however nesicarry. Thinsgs in the end, though went well. Nothing happened, it was just a scare. They though as a result of this maybe then ended the physical aspect of the relationship, and are able to appear as just best friends. I think that both of the characters, though learned something from all of this and he, being the older one, the one who would of course be set with the blame makes sure that "the things we did, the things y ou hide are for the record just between you and I" to save his own ass. I donno, that was really poorly explained..sorry. I do think though that it is really about a relationship between an older man and a younger girl, one could say that se is even like 17, and not even quite legal. I also think that even though this guy is a loser, this girl is still really too naive to figure anything out, and is more than anything thrilled to be dating or whatever him. They are maybe in escence using eachother, he to prove thath he is not getting old, because he can still date and have sex younger chicks, and her becuase she is young, but feels powerful for being able to catch the attention, and date an older guy. |
