James Blunt – You're Beautiful Lyrics 19 years ago
I have a friend who always calls me beautiful. He knows I'm in love with someone else but I was with him on Valentine's day. Just a couple of friends hanging out having vodhka and chocolates on the roof of a 15 story building. So he pulls out his ipod and tells me to listen to the song he's playing. As soon as I heard the riff I said "oh! I love this song!" and then as soon as I said that I just understood what he meant. Possibly the one of the most romantic thing that's happened to me. :)

Savage Garden – I Want You Lyrics 19 years ago
I'd almost forgotten this song. Just a few nights back i was at my friend's place and we were watching some late night TV. They were playing all these videos that we had seen as children, songs we'd grown up with, and we were trying to identify which song it was within the firt few seconds. We got most of them right. And then they played savage garden and though we hadn't heard this song in ages we just figured out which one it was in the 2nd second and sang along without any effort at all. It just came to us. And it triggered these memories i have of school, of lip gloss, ice cream sodas, and of one of my best mates who loves the song. Its like going through a cherished photo album.

Mariah Carey – Butterfly Lyrics 20 years ago
i love mariah's music. one of the prettiest thing about her lyrics is that they are easy to understand. very direct. she says exactly what she wants to get across without using all sorts of metaphors and allegories and things like that. BUT it still took me like 4 years to REALLY understand what she's singing about. probably because i was going through this painful time when i had to "let someone go". i was just sitting in the car listening to the song and at that point i totally appreciated what she was saying. but you know what... my butterfly came back to me. I really love this song.

Led Zeppelin – Kashmir Lyrics 20 years ago
ok. frankly i'm not a big zeppelin fan... not that i dont love their music... just havent heard enough of it yet. still i'd like to comment cause i think it's a beautiful song.

i dont think the song is just about one particular thing. in my opinion they've written about many things that are related to each other or that they associate with one another.

when plant says that its inspired by the fact that this strip of land just goes on and on between these somewhat elevated pieces of land on both sides i DO think it has something to do with Kashmir (located in India according to Indians and a part of Pakistan according to Pakistanis... dispute continues). Kashmir is no man's land. once described as Paradise on Earth, its seen too much war and death since The Partition (Pakistan was part of one huge India before the Partition). kashmir is supposed to be peaceful, serene. a relaxed and rather retired sort of atmosphere. only those who are extremely old can remember a time when kashmir was like this and they probably live in hope that kashmir will return to kashmir as it was before.

i could compare the sun burning everything, to bombs destroying mercilessly.

there's india and there's pakistan and in between is a strip of disputed land- kashmir. the dispute seems to go on and on and on. there seems to be no answer.
