The futility of society- this is a wonderful, yet highly cryptic social commentary. Morris shows his songwriting genius off to extremes with this one! |

A song of total unconditional love, with a twisted undertone of total reliance (perhaps even a stalker). Makes Every Breath You Take seem tame in comparison. It's basically a threat that if his loved one ever left him, he would kill himself. |

I think this is possibly about someone awakening from a ver pleasant dream to realise that the realities of life have come crashing back to him. |

This is GHM's big political number, a thinly veiled anti-war song. About political leaders having their arguments and debates and sending innocent people onto the battlefield to do their dirty work for them. |

This song seems to be an answer to "Ironic" by Alanis Morisette. Slightly more cryptic and twisted, but on the same theme. |

PS- Horsewhisperer, they played this live once at Newcastle Under Lyme, but it was rather a shambolic performance- funny though!! ;-) |

I think it's a cryptic, allegory of "It's a Wonderful Life", see the second to last verse which begins "If an angel gave me a chance..." |

I remember a gig they played in Warrington where this song was interrupted by protesters claiming it was anti-islamic, something which of course the band have totally denied. I can't see how this song can possibly be construed as offensive to Muslims, but if anyone can shed any light onto what upset people, I'd be intrigued. |

| Gift Horse Mouth – Big American Cars (You Ain't Never Gonna Make It In Memphis) Lyrics

The music is so happy- the lyrics seem quite happy as well, but take a closer look. Some of the lines, thrown in at random, it would appear, are very dark and have underrtones of sadness. "Damn that man," ; "This time last week I was feeling crap"; "End this hell!" I think it is about a manic depressive on an "upper". Big American Cars are large and shiny, but "you ain't never gonna make it in Memphis" - home of Elvis. Contrasting ideals, so maybe shizophrenia coukld be involved in someway. |
