I think you guys missed a little on the interpretation of this. He says he IS a box, not he is IN a box. What is a box? It is just an outside, only an empty shell (quite literally). He feels like he is mere appearance with no core on the inside, and I feel like he is pointing toward the buddhist idea of emptiness inside. |

Staind - in their talentless wisdom - decided to pick one of the easiest and least complex songs to make a cover of. I would have been impressed had they covered something like "Lateralus," but instead they chose to use an acoustic guitar and a singer to cover a much more complex and talented band. |

I believe this song to not be as specific as something you guys are saying. I am high at the moment, but let me give you my take:
Something devastating happened to the speaker, and he has grown depressed. He compares his state to the state of death in that both feel nothing, or are "cold on" the inside. He is angry at the doctor's words telling him that he is just fine, since he is dead inside.
And may I say, these lyrics are awesome and I think of Hurt very highly. |

Anyone who says this song is a satire against his mother is obviously trying to pull whatever s/he can to make him out to be anti-christian. This song is clear that, at the very least, he is starting to become more open to the idea of christianity, albeit not the "middle-man" religion itself. This, Wings part 1, and Jambi all have CLEAR references to this, and anyone who says that he is making fun of his mother is ridiculous. |
