Manic Street Preachers – The Convalescent Lyrics 15 years ago
to me it sounds like nicky once got so caught up in educating himself and learning about these cult figures that he started to become obsessed to the point he stopped living his life. he realised he would have to snap out of this and use it for something constructive... or he may have written it from the point of view of richey, and it was richey in fact becoming too absorbed in it all

Manic Street Preachers – Faster Lyrics 15 years ago
'i should have lied like everybody else' to me is about how in 1984 Winston was willing to stand up to the party and speak out and become curious about memories he had which the party never said existed. It is after he has been caught and he's thinking was it really worth it, he's thinking he should have kept on lying about the way the world was

Manic Street Preachers – You Stole The Sun From My Heart Lyrics 15 years ago
it must be about Richey. The whole idea of someone loving someone in spite of all the pain it caused is not a very Manics thing to right about. Nicky Wire hates love songs so it's not about a relationship. He's saying he still loves Richey despite the pain he caused when he disappeared.

I also think he's writing about the conflict he feels because of it

'But there's no - no real truce with my fury
You don't have to believe me
I love you all the same'

here he's saying he'd welcome Richey's return but not back into the band and would maybe feel like he'd struggle to accept him back yet he loves him

Placebo – Slackerbitch Lyrics 17 years ago
i think this song is about a relationship gone wrong.

the verses are from the point of you of the person who's done wrong hence "i didn't mean it". the anger in his voice as well as the harsh lyrics suggests that this is from the point of view of the person who has been wronged. "always knocking at my door" suggests that the other person is wanting to make another go of it but is getting no luck.

"i only wanted to get laid" is also a very selfish line and suggests the person has been unfaithful

Manic Street Preachers – Imperial Bodybags Lyrics 18 years ago
best song off send away the tigers, the title almost gives away the meaning to it a bit. the war in ira is the theme of the song.

correct lyric

"from queen's disposable children"

Placebo – Post Blue Lyrics 19 years ago
The i'd break the back of love for you line to me means that he may have the strongest bond with this person but it's nothing like the bond he has with drugs. therefore he's saying he'd break the back of love for drugs. it sounds like he's talking from personal experience and he's already done.

Manic Street Preachers – Intravenous Agnostic Lyrics 19 years ago
this song's about western society and its failings. the cubist abstraction line sums up the fact the west is close minded.Cosmetic - polemic
Distinguished by relics
Destructive aesthetic
Intravenous agnostic

the chorus sums up the failings of the west as in the society is obssessed with looking good "destructive aesthetic" sums up the attitude of wanting to to look good no matter the cost. it almost goes back to the manics anti consumerism days.

Bush – Straight No Chaser Lyrics 19 years ago
to me the meaning of this song seems relatively obvious. it's obviously easier to decipher after a few years drinking... it's about taking what life throws at you and getting on with it and making the most of it. there's no point in dwelling on the bad things. those who say bush songs have no meaning don't understand the use of good lyric writing.

Pixies – Wave of Mutilation Lyrics 20 years ago
i don't believe it's about suicide, instaed it's about a person who's life hasn't worked as they'd hoped so now they've severed all ties by faking death. this person now lives in a better place without hassle. that's where the mermaid comes in

Placebo – Haemoglobin Lyrics 20 years ago
to me this song is about getting off drugs.

"The whole world wants my disappearance
I'll go fighting nail and teeth
You've never seen such perseverance
Gonna make you scared of me"

this whole bit seems to be what happens to any addict whether they are drug addict or alcoholic. this is the cold turkey period, it's what people do they will persevere in order to get what they want. "the whole world wants my disappearance is a paranoia thing whwn someone is taking to drugs.

Manic Street Preachers – Faster Lyrics 20 years ago
the first part of the song relates to the party theory in 1984. no matter what the masses may remember it never actually happened. the 2+2=5 line. "i am an architect but they call me butcher" no matter what you think you are the party will always tell you different. the whole song relates to 1984 and the communist way of life, the thought police were merely Stalin's secret police and that's where the line "sleep can't hide the thoughts" comes from. no matter how alone you are, you're never actually alone in communist/fascist society

Manic Street Preachers – Yes Lyrics 20 years ago
this song is exactly about prostitution of the self. people will do all kinds of things if they think they'll get a bit of money out of it at the end of it. that's why the songs about a prostitute. the whole point is that richey was looking for a person to fit the bill for the song. what better example is there than a prostitute for it. if a little bit of money's involved she'll do ne thing including risking disease. the idea of the prostitute also has a go at society. the fact that not everyone in it can find a job to support themselves they must resort to extreme measures shows that it's perhaps not completely about comsumerism

Manic Street Preachers – This Is Yesterday Lyrics 20 years ago
this song is entire nickys. to me it seems like he was writing about a person on their death bed. the title gives a sense of looking back and the line "someone somewhere soon..." is abouth the person about to be taken away.

Manic Street Preachers – Motorcycle Emptiness Lyrics 20 years ago
i agree with the whole spender and purchase power idea that no matter how much tv adverts throw at people to make us buy a load of junk we don't really need will never make us happy. i think "under neon loneliness motorcycle emptiness" was the early signs of richeys depression. james was able to settle and enjoy life in london but the more time richey spent there he felt alone under all of the bright lights

Manic Street Preachers – Of Walking Abortion Lyrics 20 years ago
this song has nothing to do with maturbation: richey was writing at a time when he was at his best. the song is about how men are inferior to women. the quote is something along the lines of men missing the vital chromosome to be emotional beings with compassion. the whole point of the song is to show that the worlds recognised evil people (mussolini and hitler) wre men. have you ever heard of a woman who killed six million people because she didn't like the way they looked?

yous are mostly retarded! this song is obviously not about suicide but being afraid of the shite in the world aroun her and not bein able to rely on democracy, hence using the pistol as a metaphor for needing to be protected from the world which she finds herself in.

Stereophonics – Doorman Lyrics 20 years ago
doorman is about the heavy handedness of bouncers and imigration workers who have a highly superior attitude "your job is prevention" gives that away somewhat. the song is intended to be kellys dig at the world because of the way people act in a manner which doesn't cover them in glory yet they still have power (or at leat they think they do)

Manic Street Preachers – The Intense Humming Of Evil Lyrics 20 years ago
the line "arbeit macht frei" means work makes the workers free. it's almost a sarcastic look at what the nazis were doing... that's what the line means on the live version on the 10th edition. the whole song is obviously about the hollocaust and the concentration camps... i also agree with the churchill argument because he was an alcoholic but the song is very chilling which fits the topic i suppose

Manic Street Preachers – P.C.P. Lyrics 20 years ago
to me this song is about political correctness and the fact that just because a person or a society is politically correct it means nothing... hense the opening lines. i think it bugs the band that as long as you're politically correct it's ok because you don't offend anyone yet when that person is not there they can be extremely 2 faced and arrogant
