Nine Inch Nails – The Hand That Feeds Lyrics 20 years ago
I tend to agree that this song has political undertones. The hand that feeds is really just the government/media feeding the masses bullshit. Ignorance and blindness seems to be a central theme in this album. It may not be eloquent enough to please some critics but poetry to me is simply creative expression. This song is meant to be inspiring and challenge your opinions. And considering that this song sounds like a challenge to the idiot masses it would make sense that it was put simply. It does make you think and I think it sounds amazing. It took me a couple listens but this new sound blows me away. And hottie_eden, for the record Manson discovered Trent... geez. Trent is so effing talented!

t.A.T.u. – All The Things She Said Lyrics 20 years ago
This song has an awesome beat and I think for that reason a lot of people consider it more of a dance song but the lyrics, though simple, have actual meaning. The picture it paints of love is pretty universal but it also has insight into the gay world. About people stopping and staring when you're together in public, and the isolation that's desired from the rest of society because society can often be cruel. The song also deals with a bit of confusion and shame. She's told that it's wrong to love another girl but she can't help it. Her parents also seem to dissaprove. I love this song and I can definately relate. I'm so glad I got through that difficult phase and that I'm okay with myself now.

Placebo – Special K Lyrics 20 years ago
I thought seventh-seal was a biblical refference to questioning the existance of god (or something godlike). I'm unsure of the specifics, though.

Placebo – Special K Lyrics 20 years ago
It's definately about an extraordinary person that this person's in love with. It's not about drugs but it's described through that metaphor. "I'll describe the way I feel You're my new Achilles heel Can this savior be for real Or are you just my seventh seal?" The person they are in love with seems to good to be true. "I'll descrie the way I feel Weeping wounds that never heal" They think this person might just be their cure but they are hesitant to believe that this person could really fix everything, yet that overwhelming feeling they get when they are around this person remains.

Rilo Kiley – A Better Son/Daughter Lyrics 20 years ago
It's not about being bipolar. These lyrics sound more like they're coming from the type of person that's the product of a dysfunctional family. It sounds like she has problems with her mom. "And your mother’s still calling you insane And I swear that it’s different this time And you tell her you give in to the demons that possess her and that god never blessed her insides Then you hang up the phone and feel badly for upsetting things." She's trying to be perfect and hold everything together and keep everyone happy. But in the process she's sacrificing her own happiness. She blames herself for the problems facing those close to her and transforms herself into this pefect image of what she thinks she should be but she loses her true self. The whole bit about the "better daughter" supports my dysfunctional family theory as well. The only reason I know is because my girlfriend is in this exact position and the truth of this song hurts my heart.

Queens of the Stone Age – Little Sister Lyrics 20 years ago
Wow, excellent, delicious. You just said what I wanted to say about it but you said it better than I probably could have. I'd like to add to the "Come together cause I understand just who you really are" bit, though. It is about how no one else see's that she's just putting on this act and he's the only one that can see through it and she actually really needs that. Someone to see the real her.
This song is so infectious, I haven't been able to get it out of my head for days.

Garbage – Androgyny Lyrics 20 years ago
I totally agree Shrirley's attitude about sex. It's really a "break free from society" kind of song. I find this interesting because humans naturally find androgynous people the most attractive. But society and the media and whatnot has greatly influenced our views of what's "attractive" and "ideal". So "free your mind" seems fitting. It's like saying "forget what society has brainwashed you with and be natural". I love it.

Bright Eyes – Arc of Time (Time Code) Lyrics 20 years ago
to the deepest part of the human heart the fear of death expands,
so we cracked the code we have always know but could never understand,
on a circuit board we will soon be born,
again again and again and again...

Isn't it TILL we crack the code? I'm not positive because I don't have the lyrics book but that's just what it sounds like... and it makes more sense that way.
I absolutely love these last lines. It's so deeply spiritual. I've always thought that on the deepest level we already understand everything and it's just a matter of accepting it. And the bit about the circuit board I think has little to do with science. I think it's more about interconnectedness and how we're all really part of one greater entity. Conor's definately not religious but he is spiritual. Brilliant.
