Roy Orbison – In Dreams Lyrics 20 years ago
Orbison's best song by far.

And way best lyrics.

Also, kind of experimental (i.e. no structure/chorus/verses, etc). Like dreams (OOOOooooOOOOOooooOHHHHHHhhhhhh)

The Beatles – Her Majesty Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this is the greatest Beatles song and the best end to any album ever. It's no accident. The off note it ends on is one of the best in music history.

Bobby Vinton – Blue Velvet Lyrics 20 years ago
Beautiful lyrics, and incredible imagery.

"And I still can see blue velvet through my tears..."

The only art I piece I know that really captures what it's like to cry... you can still see the things in front of you, but very blurry and streched out.

Beautiful song.

Also, best film ever.

Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this is the best rock song since Beatles times.

I think the snow is an incredible metaphor. The contradicting imagery of "digging" a tunnel to windows. Just because digging implies down. It's extraordinary.

I think the lines about parents crying and digging the tunnel are the best. It is rather high schoolish, how this person escapes the trouble of is life, how when everything is going wrong (even his parents are crying) he still has someone.

It sounds so stupid trying to explain it. I guess I don't need to; it's all in the song. That's why art is so great; it puts stuff that sounds stupid when explained in a manifesto-like why in a beautiful manner.

Did anybody else notice similarities to the Twin Peaks theme? I played them over each other. Same keys and all.
