Tears for Fears – Mad World Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is about someone thinking about committing suicide. S/he is sick of this 'mad world' because s/he doesn't understand other people and/or they don't understand her. The two lines 'no tomorrow' and 'the dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had' show it is about suicide. Tears For Fears were influenced by Primal Scream Therapy, anyone interested should look up Janov's theories.

Dolly Parton – 9 To 5 Lyrics 20 years ago
I think Dolly Parton is obviously trying to promote Communism.

'It's a rich man's game no matter what they call it'

'You're in the same boat with a lotta your friends'

I would definitely say this is a song supporting Communism. Interestingly, it was written towards the end of the hot period of the cold war between the USA and the USSR. Maybe Dolly Parton believed the Russians were going to invade America and she decided to make her political affiliations to the far left known with this song.

R.E.M. – Nightswimming Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this song is about the death of a friend in youth. There are two possibilities.
1.)The friend died while they were swimming at night.
2.)The group of friends in the photograph have since gone their separate ways (to university etc/...) and one of the group has died. The song is remeniscing about the friend and nightswimming together when they were young.

Both cases 'deserve a quiet night'. Now the trivial things like 'they cannot see me naked' do not matter after the death of the friend. 'Remembering that night' is a pretty dark lyric and leads me to think of a death while swimming or soon after the swimming.

Even darker, the song could be about suicide. 'You I thought I knew you' could mean he thought he knew this friend so well that he didn't think he was unhappy.
