On other sites, the lyrics are (and it makes much more sense):
So wrong, it's just history repeating...
it keeps following me around. |

To me, this is two vampires in love so madly they have a suicide pact. They decide to go through with it by walking into sunlight together. |

I got the impression it was about dealing with a person who's an addict. They're tossing their life away (or their relationship with the person trying to help them). The "paper model plan glued to your spine" gave me a visual of a person with paper wings, who thinks they can fly but they only crash down. "Hell of a night" and "you're soaked through" and "you closed the bar" make me think of someone who's addicted to partying and brings a lot of drama to the scene. |

I got the feeling this is about her rape experience. She escaped with her life ("I'm still alive") but she's still traumatized by either nightmares or flashbacks, therefore she needs the "velvet" when she's coming down. |

For me, this song came out either right before or after September 11, so it always makes me think of the twin towers coming down. "Self-righteous suicide" is my impression of what the terrorists did. "Angels deserve to die" references all the people killed in those attacks. And "Why have you forsaken me" makes me think of what those people must have thought during the attacks. Those are the parallels I draw when I hear the lyrics. Maybe it's just me. |
