Larue – Jaded Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is talking about a person who loves God and wants to live for Him but realises that he or she needs to let go of a fading relationship (romantic or not) that's not helping his or her walk with Christ.

Also it could simply be about the bittersweet process of drifting apart from friends, or from relationships. It seems very bittersweet because it talks about something being different and drifting apart but how this person is feeling okay about it. Also just being confused as to whether he or she is supposed to make this friendship or whatever last longer. ("Something's different between you and me and I'm not sure if it's good or bad")

People come and go in life. Some make an impact on you whereas others don't. This song talks of one who did make an impact. "And if in the end, we drift apart, I want you to know God used you right from the start"

Switchfoot – Innocence Again Lyrics 19 years ago
In my mind this song is talking about how sometimes it's hard for us to accept God's grace and forgiveness. We can believe the lie that we have to earn this grace or deserve it in order to be innocent again. But real grace is not grace if it is earned or deserved. It cannot be earned and it is not deserved. The lyrics tells of a choice -- do we choose to accept the grace that God gave us through Jesus Christ... the grace that covers ALL of our imperfections? Or do we go and try to earn it ourselves? We are innocent again in God's eyes when He sees us through the blood of Christ.

I also love the lyric "Grace is high and low"
To me that means that the grace God gives us is completely valid in all our situations and covers all our sins. His grace is there in our ups and in our downs. All the time, for anything.

Lovedrug – Down Towards The Healing Lyrics 19 years ago
This is probably my favorite Lovedrug song... it's so great!! This is going to be a long interpretation. And if you're an atheist, you won't appreciate most of what I have to say. Just a warning.

I think this song has a deeper meaning than just being about a relationship. To me it's more about life in general, and how you choose to live it. That sounds broad so I'll try to explain better.

"I want my life to be red with trees and like autumn"
sounds like he's saying he wants his life to have more color and depth to it. More meaning and substance. Or, he wants his life to be something special and beautiful. Not empty and shallow.

"So sad that we have become the children trapped in the mazes"
could be referencing the fact that so many people just get lost in the business of what they think life is. They get trapped in and lost in the hustle-bustle of things and forget to take time to just slow down, think, and live.

"If I run, I'll just become like all the faking lights."
If we run along with what everyone else says is cool or popular, where will our originality be? We'll just be trying to fit in with what everyone else is doing, even though fitting in is really all everyone else is trying to do too. So really, if you "run with the crowd" and deny who you are as a person and what makes you YOU, you're becoming like all the other faking lights.

You could also look at it in the way that what you're "running" from are the things that scare you and take you out of your comfort zone... not having enough confidence in yourself to try the things that you really want to try, just because you're scared that it will fail.

"So let the thunders take me under and break my legs tonight"
To me this is kind of like a surrender and saying "Ok, here I am letting go and putting everything on the line." This could be talking about God in the sense of surrendering. Letting go, trusting in God's plan for once instead of your own... not knowing what will happen, but being ready for it anyway, and trusting God will work out everything for the best.

After all of the "let the thunders take me under..."'s, the lyrics go:
"Hallelujah, I'm not breathing." over and over...
which to me is referencing the beautiful realization that we're not in control of our own lives, God is. It's not us breathing, it's God breathing life INTO us. It's not by our own doing, but HE is the One giving us our breath. It's when we surrender to this truth that our life becomes more "red with trees and like autumn". That is, our lives finally have things like color, excitement, beauty, depth, substance, purpose, and meaning. And it's then that we no longer have to run with the crowd and become like all the faking lights. Instead we run hand in hand with God.

I think that the title is also very relevant. DOWN Towards the Healing... to me is saying that we have to be humbled and "hit a low point" and realize that we're nothing without God. Only then will the healing process start. And that's a happy, beautiful thing. Doesn't he sound relieved when he's singing "Hallelujah, I'm not breathing!!" over and over??!

Plankeye – Goodbye Lyrics 19 years ago
I think the line
"I never took the time to stop an drealize that death takes many forms even while alive"
is talking about the way a christian is to live. It gives the picture of how we are to die to ourselves (or to our sin) and become alive in Christ.

("I no longer live, but Christ lives in me." -- Galations 2:20)

There's plenty of other scriptures that talk about that.

I actually wrote about this song in my xanga a little while ago. Check it out if you want to at: http://www.xanga.com/item.aspx?user=futuremotherofstubbymidgetbaby&tab=weblogs&uid=258260333

This Beautiful Mess – Black Is The New Red Lyrics 19 years ago
I looove this song. I relate to it so so well.

Sometimes, I'm feeling really good about my walk with Christ, but then I go back to "burrying my treasure in the ground" -- putting my attention and my focus on earthly things that don't matter (or on people) -- or anything besides God. I wish I didn't do that, but the fact is I do.

When I do that, I begin feeling empty again... like an empty jar. And I begin thinking "Where are You God?"... and I realize that it's not God who's changed, since God is unchanging... it's me who's changed. Then I remember that without God's strength in me, I am so weak and can't really do anything.

It's that point where "there's nothing left for me to do" except to give in, let go, and "raise my hands in awe to You (God)" Because it's Him that gets me through, so I have to learn to give the controls back over to Him and "fold myself up again".

The Beautiful Mistake – Stavesail Lyrics 19 years ago
"My life is not my own. It was bought for me."

I love that lyric and I can totally relate to it. It's coming to the realization that we don't "own" ourselves, or our life, God does. Our lives were bought for us -- through the blood of Jesus Christ. Surrenduring to that thought - that beautiful realization - that truth, brings about a peace that no one can possibly understand, until they experience it for themselves.

The Gloria Record – Tired And Uninspired Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is about putting on a mask to cover up what you're really feeling.
"I'm keeping inside, living in my mind..." is like bottling everything up inside, not being open or sharing your thoughts, feelings, dreams, or troubles with those around you.
When you're alone, with your own thoughts, you're "living in your mind"... and then when you go back out into the world, you put on a happy face saying "I'm fine"... hoping to convince yourself that you really are fine, even if sometimes, you aren't.

how comforting and moving is that.

Showbread – Matthias Replaces Judas Lyrics 19 years ago
It's so poetic yet so deep and meaningful. It all flows together so perfectly, but still, with great meaning and passion.

"so faithfully and dutifully I award You with betrayal."

so convicting and so true.

Showbread – And The Smokers And Children Shall Be Cast Down Lyrics 19 years ago
"Or is it that You killed death itself and NOW You ARE aLIVE!!!"

I LOVE that lyric. I never really thought of it quite in that way before. That Jesus killed death itself. It's coo. :)

I also love:

"I gave up on myself, and left this pride disarmed,
I cried out “I’m alone!” and found myself in your arms"

and the part after that... "I have loved you before the world began"

GREAT song!

This Beautiful Mess – Clean Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. He went out there to carry the weight (of the sins of the world),
to wear the crown of thorns (see Matthew 27:29 and John 19:2)...
Because nobody here (in the world) is clean (without sin).
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." -- Romans 3:23-24

"...Everybody is needing a scapegoat..." Jesus became our scapegoat when He died on the cross. He took the blame.

"...You're hit in the face, You're spit in the face..."
(see Matthew 27:30 and John 19:3)

So basically, we aren't clean but Jesus is clean (without sin). So He became our scapegoat, to save us.
