To me, this song means purely about absence. An absence of something that is filled, that was filled before, and will be filled again. But most likely was never meant to be, and maybe never will be replaced with the right substitute. "They were here first.." |

It's saying, live in the moment... because you spend too much time focusing on the bad things (tragedies),, when all you need to do is let go.. because it's "So amazing here, it's alright cus there's beauty in the breakdown.." How can that be hard to understand? |

The girl is in love with the guy, but he doesn't feel the same way (I'm not sure if he's knows), and he's in love with someone else. She has to lie, and pretend she's happy that he's happy. And she's wondering how she can be so in love with him, and he doesn't even care. Basically she feels like an old, used security blanket ("And all of my clothes feel like somebody's old throwaways..") yeah, i'm sort of feeling that way now. |

| Regina Spektor – Us Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| It's basically about everyone looking for answers to the same questions, how we all commit the same crimes which make us famous.....Like healers who have healed or done something wonderful to the world and getting their names pressed to dirt, and so the world blames all their problems on those healers, miracle workers, and innocents. (isn't true, they name places after battles and streets after outlaws/outlawed acts sometimes???) And it's addicting to submit to the world's beliefs... | |

Actually I think that this song has nothing to do with ghosts at all. But instead, it is about seeing something or someone strange and thinking him to be a "ghost" or a strange drifter with the traits of a monster. And the girl (or boy) has a particular sick(sick NOT meaning "wrong" but rather squeamish or ill) interest in this "ghost" for she secretly knows that they share some of the same traits, but she does not want others to know of this acknowledgement, so she is telling the "ghost" to "go away" and to quit calling her "out to play". |
