this song means friends and memories and waking up and talking to people. it means a dear friend of mine in maine. why is rufus so amazing? i don't know. but i'm sure this song is a testament to that. |

I'm not quite sure what to think about it. I know I love this song a lot. I think it can be seen metaphorically, but also as just a great ballad- life and metaphor often correlate unintentionally. I think that may be what this is doing. I read his book, and Dylan often took stories that he liked and named people in them what he thought they should have been named, what their personality said their name should be, and used stories he'd heard and made them fit metaphorically. No, Dylan's not a prophet, but he had things to say, and because he felt things so thoroughly, they come out in his music. This song could go either way, but I definitely think it should be enjoyed and not argued over so much, maybe. |
