| The Loud Family – Don't All Thank Me At Once Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Allisyn Levy IS the person who sang with Rev Hydra until about 2000, who now resides in NYC. This is not the same person who is the vocalist for the Loud Family. They are different people. | |
| Ben Gibbard – Choir Vandals (American Analog Set) Lyrics | 20 years ago |

The first two lines are: burn down like old cathy candles marked up with the choir vandals It's just an enchanting melody, and I love the last line. It reminds me of a friend of mine in NY. |

| The Revolutionary Hydra – In The Movies Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I think this song is about the facade people don every day in order to interact with the world around them. We practiice our "moods" and then step up on the screen and act them out, the performance for which our audience assesses. Allisyn's voice is so soothing. This song remains my favorite from the Hydra, and it reminds me of her whenever I hear it. |

| The Revolutionary Hydra – Bunny Parade Lyrics | 20 years ago |

You've got many of the lyrics wrong they should be: What is it about today? I just can't seem to find my way. My memory seems reluctant like an unlucky elephant. How would my dear friends concur? My plight just gets funnier. Missing out on fun. Missing the bright sun. Missing rendezvous, means I'm missing you. I am stuck behind this long parade of bunnies. We met in a library, you we're a dusty visionary. My memory may be hazy, but I thought you were silly crazy. How could my dear friends disturb. My plan is stuck on this darn old curb. Missing out on fun. Missing the bright sun. Missing coochie coo, means im missing you. I am stuck behind this long parade of bunnies. Allisyn did a great job on this and I love hearing her sing. |

| The Postal Service – The District Sleeps Alone Tonight Lyrics | 20 years ago |

This is definitely a love song. It is telling me about a relationship of two people drawn together initially by mutual interests, like music, songs and a possible future success in the music business. I think the part about smeared black ink implies that after Ben broke up with his girlfriend in Seattle, she moved across the country, alone, to DC and began a new life. And yes, he felt all those emotions such as loss, guilt and alienation described so eloquently by RES IPSA. After a short time, he visited DC to reinitiate contact and reassess their relationship. As she was crying and telling him that it was over, her makeup was running (smearing) due to the tears in those green eyes. This woman has a normal occupation and wants to eventually have a family. Both Ben and her are nearing their thirties. She is breaking up with Ben since the life of a musician’s wife is fraught with complications, absences and apologies – it is no life to raise a family. She is telling him that their relationship is over and that he has to let her get on with her life as she wants to live it - that it is, without him. As she is telling him, it is an awkward situation, just as RES IPSA (who seems to know this relationship well) describes. Ben is in disbelief, his palms are sweaty and he either wishes he was not in this situation and could crawl under ground (under the asphalt), or that there are other reasons she broke off the relationship, other than the ones she is stating. It could be that when he traveled from Seattle to DC to attempt to rekindle their relationship, he visited her at her place of employment where all visitors MUST wear tags identifying themselves indicating very clearly that they were not “permanent”. If he is in public - visiting her at her place of public business, he is less likely to cry (keep dry) than when they or he are alone. Her departure from their relationship has cut to his very soul, and he tries very hard not to cry, after all she is the one who dumped him due to the conflict of her desired family life and his current band lifestyle. As for the “gaudy” apartment complex” . . . from when he knew her and where she lived on Capital Hill in Seattle, the apartment complex is amazingly different than her previous conditions and lifestyle. She is most definitely not shallow, and neither is Ben as other respondents suggest. “A stranger with your door key” could be her being identified as a stranger now with regard to him, and that she is explaining that he is just visiting and will not stay in her apartment. Another scenario is that she now has a live in boy friend that Ben is confronted with (she is not married, at least not until 2006) . Either way. Ben’s lifestyle can’t sustain a normal relationship for any duration, except possibly someone in the same business. It’s not the girl – it’s Ben who has abnormal conditions on a relationship due to his alternative lifestyle in the music business. He understands that having a long-term relationship and starting a family is quite impossible for a band member that is constantly touring or in the studio. It is the “loneliest evening” since he just now understands the immensity of the situation. I think the line “DC sleeps alone tonight” means that she will never be in his life again as intimately as she once was. However, Ben now realizes what a great person she is, and that he has lost her forever. He comes to the conclusion that it is his behavior and band lifestyle that drove her from him. He is just another vehicle swerving into the night aimlessly without someone like her as a base. I have to admit that I cried too when she left Seattle. |

| The comment above we supposed to be for the Postal Service - District sleeps alone at night. I guess SongMeaning's server software is not really up to the task of associating our comments to the proper song. | |
