| Matthew Perryman Jones – Save You Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I think he actually sings "I'm tracing back the threads" not "tracing back a friend." | |

Yeah, I definitely hear it as "swell of the speakers" and I agree with shv91 about "cold of my burrow" and "elbow for a closer view." Anyway, I'm not too sure about the meaning. Not to read too much into it, it could be about how KOL feels like they need to keep up with their listeners, who are "machines" and always partying and moving on to other up-and-coming bands. And it's almost degrading to their purpose -which is making music- because even if they feel a passion for their songs, it won't matter if they've been written off by the people who listened to them (I guess that'd be more for the general public, not people who really follow the band). Eh, just a thought. |

| These lyrics are actually for 'Mary May & Bobby' from Joe Purdy's self-titled album. His song 'Mary' is on the album Julie Blue. | |

I don't understand all of the lyrics, but this is definitely about a dysfunctional family. I can sort of see the "lost child" idea. I always pictured that the brother, once he's back in that dysfunctional environment, acts immature (how, even though he's older, the years seems to disappear) and maybe he drinks on Christmas or something. And maybe it happens every year and that's why their parents "brace this fall" and "soon enough receive the call" that the brother's been pulled over drunk (or something). I know the lyrics don't suggest this at all, but that's the sort of family dysfunction I could picture. And that's why he needs to call his brother and give him love, and they'll try to patch it up like they always do (and he couldn't call his brother if he were dead... unless that means to visit the grave, or something). I want to know who the 'you' is in the "It's just you I love tonight" (which I thought was "It's just you and our love tonight" but whatever). The second time that line is sung, it also sounds something like, "It's just another, hold off tonight" or something? And it sounds like it's "our parents" not "my parents", but that confuses me even more. Anyway, this is a great THT song. |

I haven't heard this song live yet, but are the lines "My buzz allowed me to slip into you more comfortably" and "I can taste the cigarettes on your tongue while exchanging spit" from a live version that's hopefully available somewhere? Anyway, I definitely think this song is, as someone else mentioned, about sex that's most likely a one-night stand, or at least something that wasn't supposed to become complicated. I sort of thought this song was about two -exes hooking up after their relationship had been over for a while, and maybe the "different image of what this was supposed to be" was that they thought they could just have sex like old times, but it involved more than they'd bargained for (probably because they were drunk and weren't able to really think things through). |

Oh, that's too bad about the bi girl leaving him. I was going to say that I think this song, and actually the feeling of this album, are about dealing with being more in love with your boyfriend/girlfriend than they are with you. Like, with this song, all he wants is for their "futures to collide" but he's going to be disappointed because she's still seeing other girls/guys, so he'll have to wait. |

| Bob Dylan – Nobody 'Cept You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is a really beautiful, subtle love song. I completely agree with phlemmo, that this is one of Dylan's most amazing yet underrated songs. | |
| The Honorary Title – Large Pink Inst. Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It was a "tour download" they offered during summer 2006 (I think). If you were on the mailing list, you got an email about it, but they might have also put it up on the website. | |
| The Honorary Title – Reassemble Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"I'm filling in the empty spaces where you left your mark You left your mark." I love when musicians reference one of their other songs like this. This song really gets you in his position, as he waits for his girlfriend to confess her infidelities. I love that it's fragmented between what's actually happening (her confessing) and his thoughts about what other people will think. One of THT's best! |

I don't think he's necessarily depressed, I think this guy just really wears his heart on his sleeve. He's so excited about being in love that he wants to tell everyone about it ("get it on telly") and when the romance doesn't work out EVERYONE knows (probably because he can't hide his sadness either). So when he sings "'cause I'm not of your kind / Tell me how to live without glee on my sleeve", he's saying that he feels everything so passionately that he can't be guarded about his feelings like other people can be (like the "mister" and "sister"). I love the whistle. Great song. |

| oh, I like the translation! It's an interesting sort of story. The tone of this song is fantastic. | |
| Dallas Green – When She Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I love this song, but I'm not sure exactly what it's about (maybe it's purposefully not clear?). I love that it switches from an omniscent "we", as if there's just some people observing the tribulations of this couple from afar, and then it goes into the couples POV with "Say you weren't cool", etc. Great song. | |
| The Spill Canvas – Self-Conclusion Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song could be the theme for the movie "On the Edge". That movie's basically what this song is describing. There's a cliff and everything. You should all see that movie too. Man, it's too bad this song hadn't been out then. Maybe this was inspired by that movie? That would be awesome. | |
| Rooney – Without Words Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song is supposed to have some irony and sarcasm. He's trying to explain to people how music doesn't need words to be good, but he has to use the words to say that. And no, lyrics aren't all that matter. Sure, certain singers can convey emotions with both their lyrics and voices, but lyrics shouldn't completely define a song. Of course, on this site that's all that'll be talked about because songs without lyrics wouldn't be posted here. | |
| Rooney – Oh What A Day Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think this is one of Rooney's best, mainly because of the honesty in the lyrics. "I like your problems/ tell me about your psychiatrist/ tell me what's wrong/ please make mistakes" conveys [his] concern and care for this girl, without actually saying that (which is SO much better, because it shows his acceptance of her problems). And of course, everyone who's had a crush knows what it's like to think about that person all day. Maybe it's not honesty, but just that this song uses more creative phrases for "I care/love you", without using cliche sayings. Rooney should start playing this again. | |
