*sniffles* Ah, this song always make me cry when I listen to it. I've always thought it was about a man having to watch the girl he loves die. "For you, I'd bleed myself dry"- donating his blood, to no avail, "You're skin and bones"- watching her waste away to nothing and not being able to do anything but stay with her and try to make her happy. |

Hm. I absolutely adore Kate Bush- I've been a fan since I was like, eight, but I actually prefer the Placebo version, which surprises me as I'm not really keen on the lead's style of singing. This song... yes, I agree with what everyone's said here, it's about wanting to trade places with someone who's having difficulties with the relationship, taking on both the pain and the love that the other is feeling. |

| I agree with Perfect Fool, even though I love Kate Bush to pieces. This version... ooh, it just gives me the shivers! I've always found the original version too poppy. But hey, it's a great song, really sticks in your head and gets to you. | |

Always favourite of mine :). This has always reminded me of a woman I knew- she had an affair and totally destroyed her family, for the simple buzz of excitement, of feeling wanted. Now she tries to get her daughter to understand why she did the things she did, and even though she knows that nobody can possibly trust her, at least they know that she knows she won't make it without them. |

| Collective Soul – Smashing Young Man Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Ah, I love this song! It reminds me of all the pretty young men trying too hard to get ahead that they burn up before they get a chance to appreciate anything, and that even though they're beautiful and wonderful and hard, they're still just people. As perfect as their flaws are, they're still flaws. | |

I first heard this song at the tender age of eight, and it's stuck with me through the rest of my life. I remember everything about the day, this is truly one of those songs that stays with you forever and makes you remember and feel. |

I -love- this song so much, it's one of my favourites. I've always thought it was about a young girl falling in and out of love, trying to find a meaning in life. She realizes that God and experiencing pleasure/joy are really what makes life worth living, and even though we may be just a tiny tiny TINY thing in the universe, we are still PART of the universe, and that's what matters. |

*sighs* I know not many people were a fan of this album, but I just love it, this song especially. I think this song is about an old soldier, saying goodbye to his beloved home as he dies, remembering all the things he loved so much about it, and not wanting to leave. One of my favourite Kate Bush songs of all time :) |
