Someone before said "Personally I feel like they are coming to peace with the realization that "The more you know the less you feel." Now I was really bothered by this and could'nt explain why but in the course of some deep thinking I had a Eureeka moment! I think I have discovered the true hidden meaning of this song from a purely mathematically perspective. Maybe God is trying to tell me soemthing, but I believe this song holds the key into explaining U2 and the world's fascination with God. If we accept the following statements below as the axioms of the system: The more you see the less you know seeing > Knowing The more you know the less you feel Knowing > feeling Then We can conclude that the more you see the less you will feel as well. Thus, Seeing > Feeling knowing > feeling And therefore because we don't see and know God (no one does), we have alot of that something extra for feelings of God. And in conclusion where as most people will become conformtably numb following God into the pews of organized religion, Bono blazes his own path challenging the world around him ( Aids, Poverty, War, Debt, injustice, even the faith he professes to follow). And it's all because, not for seeing or knowing, but feeling. |

| Also I think, "or else" that appears at the end of the title "love and peace or else" is also a threat or a plea to God to wake up, or it could be a call to humanity as well. | |

Leave your jealous lover behind, or in other words your God and prejudices, and re-evaluate your dreams, hopes, fears, and the things you treasure most, to come together find common ground and break the monsters back (wars, poverty, injustices), for a better world. In other words Abrahams sons will not be layed down and sacrifced to the jealous lover, or God, but a new life and brand new heart will emerge despite the jealous lover, or God. Once the heart is broken, or everything you thought was true is learned to be false, then you can answer the question where is the love and peace? Which ironically brings you right back to God. Love and Peace. |

Great song! Raney, like The Seminole scouts who rode the oklahoma plains and fought the tribes of the Great Plains, has embarked on his own ride (train) across the plains to fight against the temptations that will surely be his life if he stays. |

Got my finger on the trigger But I don't know who to trust I look into your eyes There's just devils and dust In wake of current events, and Bruce's support of the anti-war movement in the United States, it's clear from the beginning of this song that it is about war. I take the first line 'Got my finger on the trigger' to be a reference to the inclination of the deployment and use of war, and the second line 'Don't know who to trust' to be a reference to the popular saying that came out of the vietnam era, "Don't trust anyone over 30". More specifically the 3rd and 4th lines reveal this song to be about the Iraq War. when I analyze the title of the song 'Devils and dust', and the repeated reference to devils and dust throughout the song, the word devils is symbolic of man's inhumanity to man, or of the injustice of war; and dust is symbolic of Iraq. Thus, in line's 3 and 4 and througout the song, everytime he looks at himself, and his countrymen, or soldiers, in the eyes, or the heart, he sees Devils and Dust (war and Iraq). And where we once had good intentions in Iraq or God filled soul intentions, They are now filled with Devils and Dust (war and Iraq). |
