| Elliott Smith – Between the Bars Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
yeah im pretty sure its about the worsening of an alshohol adictiion. most hardcore alchoholics start drinking to numb themselves from an unpleasant reality. they want to not care about anything so bad that just being sober can be unbearable at times. The title "between the bars" is referring to going to drinking bars, not like prison bars. throughout the song the alchol itself is speaking to the addict luring him with promises like: "Drink up with me now and forget all about The pressure of days, do what I say And I'll make you okay and drive them away The images stuck in your head" "People you've been before that you don't want around anymore That push and shove and won't bend to your will I'll keep them still" the last part is about how his addiction rendered himself alone and isolated. hes no longer going to the bar. hes only alone with his alchohol and miserable: "Drink up one more time and I'll make you mine Keep you apart, deep in my heart Separate from the rest, where I like you the best And keep the things you forgot" |

this is probably one of the most beautiful songs ive heard in my life. music is the ultamite way of connecting with people on a broad scale. its the closest thing to raw emotion that we can trancend as humans. without it, the losesomeness of the world would be overwhelming and suicide would proabably be through the roof. i think this song is just the perfect portrayal of that thought. depression, lonliness and detatchment can be extrememly painful, but no matter where you are or how you feel, theres always someone who feels what you do. always rememebr that |

| Modest Mouse – Medication Lyrics | 16 years ago |

this song pretty much draws out the cycles of the bipolar condition. i think the first part is about just dealing with depression and the detatched, empty, mind of someone who is severly depressed. i like how in the middle there is a manic phase of upbeatness and then it drops at the end symbolizing the medicated him and how it restrains him from enthusiasm and apathy. he feels neither hapiness or sadness and definatley doesnt feel himself. the medication just makes him as empty as he was when he was depressed... "trading sadness for numbness" |

this song is so beautiful. its kind of weird that im guilty of pretty much all of the actions mentioned in the song. i already know that this song is gonna make me extremely nostalgic when im older. i feel nostalgic when i hear it now. its been like 5 years since i first heard this song. i could make love to nicole johnson's voice its so calm and pretty... whoever she is it just reminds me of wandering around town an summer nights with my heart dowsed in cheap vodka, falling in love with every girl i run into... im sure isaac felt the same way.. i mean he had to be like 19 when he wrote it |

| Murder City Devils – Someone Else's Baby Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| one of those songs i really feel for. a song about that one person that you cant stop thinking about, regaurdless of who your with, or what your doing, even if its completely hopless, there still in your head | |
| Woody Guthrie – Columbus Stockade Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| i love how completley sincere woody guthrie was. regaurdless of the alienation and lonleyness he feels in his stockade, telling his lover that shes free to leave, because he knows he cant be there for her while he's in jail, and that deep down she loves someone else. | |
| Woody Guthrie – California Stars Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| i think this song can make even the lonliest person feel at peace. | |
| Ween – She Fucks Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |

| Modest Mouse – Beach Side Property Lyrics | 16 years ago |

this is probably the lyrical peak of modest mouse, in this song alone... its about the eroding of the earth. or how the earth is, in a sense, killing itself because its sick of being used so excessivley and being mistreated. then it eventually leads to erosion of all things "poor eyes, sore eyes, no eyes". this erosion, has no limits; the desrtuction of morals through religion("a message left on the forehead of god"- a message so decieving to the original purpose, that these "saints" had to hide it from god himself), and destruction of the unions under capitalism "we're going union...big ideas of stocks and shares." the song kind of has the same theme as THE FRUIT THAT ATE ITSELF.. how things go too far, and get to the point where they defeat their own purpose. ("like teaching the fruit to eat itself" or "teaching the mirror to admire itself") its a beautiful and amazing song, really. |
