| Clutch – David Rose Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Clutch made 3 different presses of The Elephant Riders. Each with a different song hidden after "The Dragonfly." This is one, the other two being "05" and "Gifted and Talented." My CD came with 05 and I have heard Gifted and Talented. yet this one is impossible for me to find. It is probably the only clutch song I have yet to hear, so impossible to find. And I don't feel like buying every copy of elephant riders I come across until I get this one track. So it will forever be a mystery to me. |

| Rage Against the Machine – Kick Out the Jams (MC5 cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I would also like to point out that Monster Magnet did a version of this song also. Though I do agree with you that the president's version was the best. Though it really doesn't resemble the original much. | |
| Clutch – Mice and Gods Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Very convoluted lyrics, but it seems to be roughly about a metallic genetically controlled future. One in which all imperfections "Mice and Gods" have been done away with. It seems that Neil is pissed about the genetic screening and the like taking place with humans. This song looks to be about how we as a culture want too much scientific advances too soon without concidering the consequences. The results of this society are seen in this section: "Slowly, broken windows returning to the sand The economic factors are no longer relevant. That empty city sound is so frightening. Neolithic fear is such a motivating factory." The "future city" destroys itself completely, as pointed out by the "economic factors" being no longer relevant. The economic factors that motivated the rushed progress don't matter when everyone is dead. |

| Clutch – Hoodoo Operator Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I have done a bit more thinking about this song and while the surface meaningmay have to do with some creepy dude he saw while skiing, "Hoodoo Operator" is most likely a metaphor for satan. It becomes obvious with these lyrics "Ah, he'll sell you liquids To cure that whooping cough And fine liniments At a poor man's cost Ah, but when your time is up boy And you feel that chill He will come softly knocking To collect his bill" Meaning, all the trespasses of life (quick fixes like lies, eic.) will be payed for in the afterlife. |

| Clutch – Juggernaut Lyrics | 19 years ago |

The chorus of this song: "Orgy-Porgy, Ford and fun Kiss the girls and make them One. Boys at one with girls at peace; Orgy-Porgy gives release." is taken directly from the book "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley. The book is about a depiction of a future in which everything is controled and based on castes. Everything is done for society and "stability." Making me think this whole song is about how it is bad to give your whole life to society. In other words, nationalism is a terrible thing when in extremes. The chorus in question is from a "solidarity service" attended by the protagonist. Here is a direct explanation of the quote from sparknotes. "It gives an example of the banal “religion” the World State uses to keep its members in conformity with societal rules. The song’s silly wording helps emphasize the triviality of the ceremony...Finally, the last stanza’s “orgy-porgy gives release,” like the Violent Passion Surrogate, the Pregnancy Surrogate, and soma, is a signal that the World State has not been able to entirely annihilate human nature. There is still some need for release, some need to experience strong emotions that has not been entirely wiped out through conditioning. The Solidarity Service is one of many mechanisms the World State uses to channel strong emotions in such a way that they present no threat to the power of the State." There are also a few other possible references to the book. "Points of light quickly fade" might be a reference to the portion of the book where the narrator describes the stars are no longer visible because of all the electric signs. "You are food but you are saved" might be a reference to the fact that in the book peoples corpses are "recycled" for their phosphorus, which is in turn used to feed plants. |

| Clutch – One Eye Dollar Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Pretty obviously about the Monica Lewinsky thing. One eye dollar...hehe | |
| Clutch – Impetus Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| It looks like it is spoken from the point of view of a war-mongering leader. "The means are the end" most likely meaning that the way of getting his way is the end of life. We know that Neil writes often about war-mongerers, i.e. Blast Tryrant, so it seems to fit. Looking at any given line it seems to fit well. | |
| Clutch – Tight Like That Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Clarifying some of the allusions here: Stagger Lee is a man who got in a drunken fight with another man and when the man took his hat Stagger Lee shot him. It is a nickname used for the man and popularized in a blues song by Mississippi John Hurt. Old Scratch is another name for the Devil. The song overall seems to be Clutch saying how much they are tight with God. |

Just to clarify the mythical allusion Sisyphus is someone who was cursed to roll a rock uphil for eternity by the gods. Rock it like Sir Sisyphus is a fun play on words. |

| Clutch – Eight Times Over Miss October Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Allow me to help you out as to what this song is about. In the CD there is a special feature containing notes about each song. This particular one is about a trip he (Neil Fallon) took when he was very young to Salem, Massachussets (sp?). He saw a lady dressed up in a witch costume who ran some sort of witch themed shop and creeped him out. Oh, and there is no such place as Hazel, California he thought it was a cool rhyme. | |
| Cake – Daria Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I have a different view on this one, the girl cheated on the guy. She wants them to get back together, yet no matter what she says he wants none of it and won't be soothed. Smoothing over their relationship isn't as easy as smoothing over milk, silk, a bedspread, or a quilt. | |
| Cake – Mr. Mastodon Farm Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Because of some construct in my mind I interpret the chorus as this: Mr. Mastadon Farm refers to god, because he is grand and old and owns a "Farm" of people. The line that he "cuts swatches out of all material" seems to mean that he makes life out of bad and good times. This interpretation fits decently with the rest of the time, because after the birds "plummet", have a period of bad time, they will "flap their wings" and have some good times. |

| Cake – Pentagram Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| To me this sounds more like a big metaphor for wanting to date a girl. He does all these things just to "pass the test" and to date her. After a while she dumps him, he gets burnt just like all the dead relationships, "dead babies." After the relationship is over he wonders what he saw in her in the first place, why he "took it [the test] in the first place." | |

"haha i was just listening to this song, and i think he shouts "onion!" in the middle of the trumpet/'na na na' part. its 1:21 through the song and it made me laugh. so random." I am pretty sure it is "oh yea!" not "onion" |
