| Interpol – Evil Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| It's about the Fred/Rosemary West serial killings. The song is sung from the perspective of Fred West, talking to either Rosemary or himself. Probably set just before he hung himself in prison, the song has a lot of irony; in that the lonliness Fred fears of and avoids by commiting suicide, he casts on Rosemary. The start of the song describes their time during the killings, the chorus and closing of the song describe his feelings right before death. | |

Great song. Really looking forward to the new album after this. To me, this song is about being in denial about death, and the speaker in the song (Tom, I assume), trying to tell someone it's inevitable. "You came on your own and that's how you'll leave" - when we all die, we usually die alone, the same as when we were born into the World. I've had the song less than 24 hours, but in that time, that's all I can draw from it. I know it's wrong ;-). |

| Ladytron – Playgirl Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| It's about a prostitute who is confused about her lifestyle. A part of her wants to escape from it and start afresh, but another part of her almost seems to get enjoyment from the seediness her life entails. Mirya and Helen both sing, almost acting as her 'conscience', with contrasting lines, telling her to escape from her life, and when she acts upon it, they then begin asking what she's doing and why she's doing it. | |

Yeah, Sharkface is right. I thought the cocaine reference was obvious really, seing how 90% of ladytron songs are about drugs, and 'elusive and temporary' is referring to sex. The video is awesome as well. |

I think the 'he' in this song is Brian himself, about an old relationship he had. Agreeing with the glittershit for the most part, as most of it makes sense. I think the girl wants to love him, but he just can't seem to keep her interested enough; '(he's got a thousand talents charisma by the bagful aristocratic parents a rebel with a heart of gold)'. My favourite song ever, also. |

Had no idea what it was about, but the sex theory sounds great. I'll go with that. Another great song off the album, used to hate it but it grew on me a lot. |

Nice idea about Peter Murphy there. Molko seems to have included a lot of references to other atrists on the album, the bloke from Nine Inch Nails on Post Blue and Neil Young on Song to Say Goodbye. Anyway, this is easily my favourite song on the album. I think it's stuck in the middle of their first album and Without You I'm Nothing personally, very dark feel to it. Should be the single after Drag though, it's very catchy! |

'Can't wait to see the video on this one...' Confident it's going to be a single? I wish, but I doubt it. Virgin probably won't release it, it doesn't have that 'commercial' feel to it. Lovely song though. easily one of the best on the album, possibly one of Placebo's best ever. |

| Placebo – English Summer Rain Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Yeah, Placebo's songs have featured in a couple of films: Every You Every Me - Cruel Intentions 20th Century Boy - Can't remember lol English Summer Rain...probably my all-time favourite Placebo song, well the new version is anyway. In the version that was on the ESR singles and on Once More With Feeling, while Brian is singing 'Start Again, Start Again' over and over again, there is also a voice in the background whining much like The Bitter End. This voice is saying something like: 'And I can't sleep without Your breathing And I can't breath each Time your leaving Please...you won't stay away Won't you come back to me someday...' To me, this is implying that the guy they are singing about (presumably Brian) has just been dumped by a girl and has tried to live without her, but that his life is empty, bland and 'routine' since she has left, and he can't accept that she has gone. In the end, he resorts to telling himself that she hasn't gone forever and will come back to him one day. In the animated video (which doesn't actually have anything to do with Placebo themselves, it was made by a South African college student), there is a quick shot of the guy with a red-headed girl laying on top of him. This is the memory of her he is having. Again, just my interpretation... |

| Placebo – This Picture Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I'm pretty sure that the whole James Dean idea is correct. The polaroid picture theory I'm also quite positive is correct, also the song is based around a woman finding a picture and just staring at it. I think that the song is about a one night-stand that Molko had once, and involved kinky sex (or something like that), and realises he falls in love with the girl overnight. Again, if you've seen the video, the woman's face (presumably the one at the start when Molko's having a flashback), is blurred out all the way through the song until the very end where Brian uncovers her true identity. The name 'This Picture' kind of gives it away that it's about a photo. I never knew about the photo at the Placebo gig story (thanks by the way), but I'm now almost certain that this is about it. Of course, my (very jumbled up) theory is most probably incorrect, but that's the way I saw it. This Picture is probably one of my top 5 Placebo songs, it really gets you thinking. |

| Placebo – The Bitter End Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Yeah, I agree with SinisterUtopia, the end does keep getting quicker and quicker, until the very final bit where he sings 'See You at the Bitter End' for the final time', and there is one more tiny twang on the guitar, and the song just ends, thus implying an immediate death. If you watch the video for The Bitter End, it shows a figure chasing after a girl, and then pinning her up against a wall and they start to kiss. As soon as they start, the satellite that the band are playing in blows up, and everything goes black bar the band members and their instruments. I never used to like The Bitter End, but it has grown on me in recent weeks. Very interesting song indeed... |

| Placebo – Pure Morning Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Hmm. I also always thought that the lyrics were 'A friend who bleeds is better', but in Yahoo! music recent Exclusive Pure Morning video, you can clearly see and hear that he says 'A friend who believes is better'. Bleeds would make more sense to the song, but he definetly says 'believes'. | |
