Yep, it's about The Doom Generation [my favorite!]. X [not her ex]--Amy's boyfriend's nickname for Xavier--is one of the characters and ends up sleeping with Amy. After Amy and her boyfriend have sex they say... Jordan: It's fuckin' trippy, that's for sure. Amy: It's kind of like eating spaghetti. The movie's set in Los Angeles/SoCal, and they drink, have sex, and run away from people who are trying to kill them the whole time. "Some say more with their hands"--maybe referring to the tattoos on Amy's hands--KISS and KILL on her knuckles. "Prove to everybody who doesn't understand"--in the beginning Amy and Jordan talk about having no place in the world. "All the nights, all the fights"--Amy and X fight constantly. And it's not a black and white movie but was made in the mid-to-late 90s. I think the "why am I dealing with this feeling?" stanza may be about Jordan being attracted to X but not doing anything about it. |

| The Cure – Wrong Number Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This has to be one of my favorite Cure songs. I think it's about a guy who wants to be with someone who has no interest in him at all--maybe someone he was with and wants back, but they're completely over him. But I think most of the lyrics are just there to sound cool, which they totally do. | |
| Neutral Milk Hotel – Where You'll Find Me Now Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| He betrayed his girlfriend somehow, she broke up with him, and he would be happy again if she would take him back. He offers himself to her as a sort of sacrifice out of remorse, to apologize for hurting her, but she won't take him back. | |
| The Legendary Pink Dots – Madame Guillotine Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The "first they rounded up the reds.." bit is modeled after a poem about the Holocaust, isn't it? It's about getting rid of everyone that you disagree with and everyone and everything that doesn't appeal to you until the entire world is at risk, like the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland. Someone cruel and bloodthirsty as well as indiscriminate being in control. And then they destroy the planet and there's no escaping death anymore, and so everyone is wiped out. | |
| The Legendary Pink Dots – Dissonance Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Because I'm obsessed with Norse mythology, this makes me think of Loki at Ragnarok. The Earth and all living things are doomed but they all keep fighting anyway, as everything is destroyed. In particular the last few lines make me think of him: "In a space with no windows, I'm counting the touch. All this time to reflect on my crimes to humanity.." He was bound to a rock [in a cave?] prior to Ragnarok as punishment for killing Balder. And he never apologizes for killing anyone, making people angry, screwing them over. As a god of chaos, he would glady do it all over again because it doesn't matter if the consequences are good or bad, only that his actions mixed things up. | |
| Neutral Milk Hotel – Song Against Sex Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Basically about sex without emotional involvement being fake and pointless, and being unhappy being superior to fake, drug-induced happiness, or that having sex because you've taken something that makes you feel closer to or more comfortable with someone than you actually are. The "dead and hanging man" is Jesus and I think the kiss followed by the world ending means his stance on pre-marital sex is close to that of Christians--against sex without marriage/commitment. I was kind of disappointed by the lines about drugs but I suppose he's saying doing drugs to make it easier for you to do things you wouldn't have done otherwise is bad, not necessarily doing drugs, period. The last few lines are him trying to forget what he almost did, by "burning up" the memory, himself, or the person he almost slept with. |

| Neutral Milk Hotel – The King of Carrot Flowers Pt. 1 Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I agree with everyone that's said it's about kids finding solace from their family fighting all the time in each other. I'm not saying it's about Anne Frank, but it does remind me of the Diary, where her relationship with Peter is a break from the pettiness and constant fighting of the rest of the people in the Annex. |

| Neutral Milk Hotel – Oh Comely Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think it's about some guy's mostly sexual relationship with someone. She's more important to him than he is to her, and he can't be with her for some reason so he can't protect her from other people. Maybe "your father made fetuses with flesh-licking ladies while you and your mother were asleep in the trailer park" is about the guy and the girl and the guy's family. The guy talking to his kid. Or about the girl's childhood, explaining why she keeps sleeping with someone she doesn't care about. Or she's a prostitute he got involved with. | |
