Agreed. It's easy to smoke a little pot and think you have some deep thought in saying "Christians are so close minded" without realizing some people believe what they do for their own reasons. |

I think theoretically love is enough. God's love is enough IMO. Loving your neighbor the best you can is enough IMO. HOWEVER, in this song, Trent does seem to be speaking about internal issues where love may have not been enough, literally for X to occur. |

I think this song is about how Trent was young and stupid and thought god lied to him never considering he might have been running from this god through sin and more sin. so the song gits big and helps the devil. What would the devil want (assuming he is real) in this world... A bunch of kids in all black screaming out in anger TERRIBLE LIE !!!!!!!!!! or A bunch of kids wearing whatever screaming TERRIBLE TRUTH!!!!!!!! exactly, only one message will make it big in this sinful, crappy world we live in. This song to me is some guy wrote off the "downward spiral" album in an extremely sinful and angry state. It referes to the fact that God is somehow "dead" etc as a message. There are lots of hypocritical Christians. I have met some that sure as hell (irony) are not. Pointing the finger at Christians is easy becuase most of the preachers they show on TV are idiots. The LAST thing anyone would expect is Jesus to come back, after all, everything balances itself out in the end. All of Trent's sin, all of my sin, all of Twiggy's sin has to be paid for somehow.... might take some divine blood spilling imho. |

Like this song alot. I think it is also self explanatory and of course means different things to different people. However, I personally see it as facing the real world and stepping forth and breaking free from the entrapment and make believe world of drug addiction. I have been addicted to drugs and every line hits home with hitting rock bottom and deciding to take action and let things stay naturally right where they belong. "See the animal in the cage you built.." "You can live in this illusion..." I see and feel this as trying to escape reality through drugs and escape issues and things that need to be dealt with and not buried deep. Ignoring these things puts you in a life of illusion and you end up like an animal in a cage. (that you choose to construct) I have personal thoughts about what "hiding in the trees means" ... imo great song, take what you can from it |
