it's about anxiety, denial, insecurity, self consciousness, change, awareness, growing up, inner conflict, despair, hope, altruism, etc. etc.
anyone who thinks this song is happy needs their head examined. about the only thing that makes me feel better is that someone else might be going through the same things, or something similar
at the very end i feel like the song is making fun of me , the guitar riffs are so powerful, like my inner demons are mocking me or something.. listen to the last riffs, and then think of the words ha ha ha... ha ha ha. .. ha ha ha ha.. ha ha ha..

The Rat symbolizes dereliction to me. For example, the song Wharf Rat by the Grateful Dead is more lyrical in allegory than this tune about a similar relationship. I can see this, due to its vagueness, being about any relationship of uneven scales...like, someone who is unwilling to give anything to the relationship, asking for something...while the other person is putting it out and on pretty hard. |
