I hear that. Even if the outcome was different, the message is the same. It wouldn't surprise me if DKM came out with a tribute song for this recent event. |

Hell yeah! I am so fucking tired of little punk ass kids who don't know shit about shit pretending they know their asses from a hole in the ground. DKM is by far the best band on the planet ever and just because some lame ass limp dicks are trying turn punk into some conformist crap like U2 doesn't mean that it still doesn't beat out any other form of music out there (especially rap) |

I figure this song is about some guy who got shit on for his whole life and took it all and never gave up despite all this. He was given the short end of the stick by all these smug assholes and he took it all because he knew he could outlast them and he would come out on top in the end. For some reason I get the idea that he was a musician of some kind because there is a lot of references to music in the song. |

Actually, I'd have to say that this song is more about getting over someone and getting back into the scene. Still, it's a great song. Do you have what it takes to be a Captain? |

The first verse is about going out to a club and seeing a girl all dressed up like a cheap whore and when you go over to ask her price, you find out she's not a prostitute and then you feel like a jackass. The second verse is about going up to some hot chick in a bar and having her boyfriend come over just as you make your move. It's happened so many times to so many people that everyone can relate to this song. |

Well I was tired of searching around the interenet and not finding the lyrics to such a kick ass song, so I took it upon myself to write them down. If there is any glaring errors, I will change them as I see fit. |

Great song to protest the war in Iraq. Obviously, it's about how America trains and aids all these foreign countries and as soon as they start to think and act for themselves, America comes in with all this rightgeous bullshit about what these countries have done and wonder where they got these ideas. Americans got pissed off at the contras in Columbia after they eliminated the governments that America told them to eliminate. They get pissed off at Osoma Bin Laden (not that I condone that sort of thing) for using terrorist skills learned from Americans against them. "We know Saddam has weapons of mass destruction. We sold them to him. We have the recipts!" |

I fucking hate when people like OpinionHead try to warp songs that were around for years before something happened to suit some disaster that is the current way for yuppies to make themselves feel better about raking in millions from the masses. It's almost but not quite as bad as the jackass who posted that Silver Jet is about 9/11. It should be abundantly clear that God hates America by now but they still don't change. Fires, earthquakes, and mudslides along the west coast. Hurricanes in the south. Tornadoes all through the flat lands. Shitty rap music and terrorist bombings in the northeast. And worst of all, non stop rain in SEATTLE (Sweet Zombie Jesus) |

Um, no, jackass. this song was made well before 9/11. I seriously doubt that you have ever heard a Tragically Hip song and the only reason you posted that dumbass comment was because you were looking for a song with the word "jet" in it and stumbled across this one. If you're going to try and draw attenion to something, maybe you should use a song written after the event rather than before. Being that "In Violet Light" was released in 1998, the only way that this song could be based on the events of 9/11 is if Gordon Downie can see the future (a rather unlikely theory). So in conclusion, you are a total dipshit that can't understand the meaning behind "Ring-around-the-rosie" much less something as complex as a Tragically Hip song. I rest my case. |

Ok you definately got that wrong Madcappunk. This song (as it says under the title) is about a friend of the band who was killed. The first verse starts out saying how there are gangs all over the city and how they dont like each other and such but there is also the kids that dont want anything to do with the gangs and dont fit in with the rest of the "in" crowd. These are the people that everyone forgets about and they dont care if they hurt them. The last verse shows that this kid that never did anything to anyone was in the wrong place at the wrong time and was killed because of it, but the killers escaped prosecution. In the middle of the song there is a news report of a kid being killed by a gang. This is what the song is about, some kid getting killed because of gangs. |

whoever submitted these lyrics should either go to the DKM site, buy the Blackout CD and read the insert, or actually listen to the fucking song once. These lyrics are like a wierd distortion of the original and not the DKM version in the slightest. Just because the band is from Boston doesn't mean that this song is about Boston. As a shining example of the numerous mistakes and fuck ups in these lyrics the very first line of the song in the insert and on the website is "in a neat little town they call Quincey" which is where DKM's mailing address was on Blackout and when they actually sing the song they say "in a neat little town they call Brockton" which is from the original Black Velvet Band lyrics. dont argue with me on this one, I'm Irish |

The idea I got for this song comes from the album art and from the title. I see it as how we have gotten so liberal with our punishment of crimes that people are literaly getting away with murder just because they are part of a minority and the police cant do anything about it or they could endanger their own job. Because of the way things are headed, there wont be any justice for the people hurt by crime and the criminals will keep commiting the crimes. |

That version was released on the second singles collection. It's called a dance remix which i find fucking funny cause all the shitty techno songs they are talking about are all dance remixes that are just more of the same shit. DKM is just adding to the "joke" of the song by mocking the all the techno shit with dance remixes. If your looking for the original, takara, it's on The Gangs All Here CD. |

I'm surprised that no one has wrote anything about this yet because the song is great. The way I see it (I don't know any actual details about what happened; just what I hear in the music) 19 men were fired from their jobs for violating a rule that prohibited unions in probably a factory (once again I'm not sure exactly what this is about). What the bosses figured was that they would make an example of these guys but instead the entire factory took to the streets in protest and the bosses called in the cops. I figure the cop part because of the "thin blue line" part in the song but once again I'm not entirely sure what event this is about so anyone who knows anything should post here and help me if I fucked it up. |

It's bizarre. I've got nothing against this song, by no means. I really like it but everyone I've ever talked to who has actually heard of DKM says this is thier favourite song. I don't get it. Barroom Hero is way way awesomer and the story is way cooler. I got nothing against Dirty Glass but come on people just listen to some of the other stuff and you will see that it is way more kickass |

An air raid man/warden was a guy who was hired to walk the streets of a city and tell people to turn their lights out. During night attacks, enemy aircraft would bomb the crap out of anything that had lights on so when the air raid siren would sound everyone would have to turn out the lights so the city wouldn't get bombed. A real kick ass song anyway. |

This is my all time favourite song ever!!! To me this is telling the story of a guy who got screwed over by some ex girlfriend and now he's getting (you guessed it) vengeance on her and her new boyfriend. Despite the violence and the fact that this isnt actually a DKM song, it is still my all time favourite. |
