| Queens of the Stone Age – I Never Came Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
He says "Can't call it leavin cus it's just- I never came" Meaning- she thinks he's leaving her, but he thinks he never came to her in the first place. He never cared about her from the start. I'm sure with the hand gestures he is implying the humorous "cum", but I think that's more for a humor value and that he literally means- he's never come to her to be her lover. |

| The Flaming Lips – It Overtakes Me/The Stars Are So Big, I Am So Small . . . Do I Stand a Chance? Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Argh- I have mixed feelings about this song. "Overtakes" is so damn cute, poppy, and infectious, that it drives me insane, but the second part, "Do I stand a chance" is so wonderful and moving... To the extent that I never got a chance to listen to Do I stand a chance because I kept skipping past Overtakes because of the intro which drove me nuts. | |
| The Flaming Lips – Vein of Stars Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Amc- if there ain't no heaven, then that means there probably ain't no hell... which is a GOOD thing, since according to the doctrine of the Abrahamic religions, if there was a hell, most of us would go there. So look forward that all that's going to happen when you die is that you're going to rot, and not burn in hellfire for ETERNITY. I happen to think it more comforting that life ends when it ends, it is the end of all joy, true, but it also is the end of all suffering. Life isn't a waste, you just have to make the most of what you have while you're here. Maybe you'd survive after your death but in a different fashion- maybe leave behind a legacy or something to that effect. Anyway, I wish this song was there for me a couple years ago when I started questioning my own faith. I think it would have comforted and eased my transition into atheism, but who knows? | |
| The Refreshments – Mekong Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| No, no, no.. you're both wrong. He says He came all the way from Taipei today. Taipei, in Taiwan. By the way, Locals call it "Tem-pee" for Tempe. I should know, I live there. He's singing about Bangkok and Mekongs, so it's no stretch of the imagination that he's singing about Asia, which is where Taipei is | |

This song is about posers, not capitalism, you retards. I don't know how it can get anymore obvious. Capitalism rules. If you don't agree with me, respond to me with your computer. You know, the one that capitalism made possible |

| The White Stripes – There's No Home For You Here Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I rarely am this excited about song lyrics: Jack White's songwriting is brilliant. Yeah, it's another send off to an ex-lover, but the language he uses is masterful- "I'd like to think that all of this constant interaction Is just the kind of make you drive yourself away Each simple gesture done by me is counteracted And leaves me standing here with nothing else to say Completely baffled by a backward indication That an inspired word will come across your tongue Hands moving upward to propel the situation Have simply halted Now the Conversation's done" Simply lovely. It almost makes me want to find a girl, date her, and break up with her simply to be able to use this in a sentence. |

| The Slip – Children of December Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I think this song is about how we can easily forget about people except for special occasions. But more... I think the lyrics just go with the kickass song. Also, I hear "They sing "Happy Birthday"' not, "They sing out your birthday". But anyway, great band.. great song. |

| Cake – Race Car Ya-Yas Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think this is about Los Angeles- a place where you can't change lanes because of the traffic. Assholes in 80s IROC Cameros with fuzzy dice in their mirrors cutting you off.. At least, that's the imagery I get when I hear this song. Sitting on a Los Angeles Highway | |
| Cake – Daria Lyrics | 20 years ago |

when you tried to feed me i only shut my mouth. food got on your apron and you told me to get out. I agree with the Pessimist/optimist relationship, or something like it. She goes out of her way to make him feel loved, but he's apathetic about it. |

| Cake – Take It All Away Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Totally straightforward, but I love the way he goes about it: It's like a car crash happening on my street Broken bodies at my feet And sirens on the way They're too late 'Cause nobody's going to save us We're a rubbernecker's dream We're burning gasoline Probably my favorite song on this album, 2nd being "Wheels", which should have been a single! |

| Modest Mouse – The Good Times Are Killing Me Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
First off: I think this whole "LSD Makes better music" is bullshit. I happen to really enjoy Good News... It's also interesting to note that the Flaming Lips contributed to this song. A band noteworthy for extremely unique, "psychadelic" sound but which never took drugs! Secondly, I'm really annoyed at these indie kids who think they're too cool to listen to ANYTHING that gets played on the radio. As soon as they hear Ocean Breathes Salty on the radio, they get all bent out of shape. "OOh, they were so much better in 1996" Bullshit. You just want to say you were so cool and hip that you heard of Modest Mouse first, and anyone else who heard of them after Good News came out is some kind of bandwagon fan... "Now tickets to concerts and drinking at clubs, Sometimes for music that you haven't even heard of. And how much did you pay for your rock'n'roll t-shirt That proves you were there, That you heard of them first? " Cake- Rock and Roll Lifestyle |

| The White Stripes – Take, Take, Take Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I love the mixing on this song... especially when you're wearing headphones and you hear Jack's voice bouncing off your brain from different directions | |
| The White Stripes – White Moon Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The song is ALL about Rita Hayworth, and how he can't obtain the one thing he wants (her) because she's, well, a ghost. Every line in the song is about her- the double feature- because she was an actress, the "Photograph the picture Young grunt pin-up scripture" because she was a pin-up model that the troops had on their lockers. It's all about Rita! | |
| The Flaming Lips – It's Summertime (Throbbing Orange Pallbearers) Lyrics | 20 years ago |

| The Flaming Lips – Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt. 1 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This is a song off a concept album. It is supposed to be taken as literally as 2112 was (by Rush). Robot 3000-21 falls in love with Yoshimi. Yoshimi has to battle the evil robots, and wins. End of story. It isn't about cancer, it isn't about relationships, it's a story about Yoshimi! Why is that so hard to digest? And- about the guy who said hallucinogens and the flaming lips being awesome- that might be (i've never done hallucinogens) but the Flaming Lips don't do drugs.. interesting |
|
| The Flaming Lips – Fight Test Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| How come every song lyric has to be about relationships?! Maybe he's talking about always backing down in his life, letting things run over him all the time, and never sticking up for himself? That's what I got out of it. | |

| Franz Ferdinand – 40 Ft. Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| hang on, I'm wrong- UK uses imperial measurements in distance, but metric in weight.. also, it just sounds better as feet.. I mean, "Only 12.19 meters remain" isn't just as catchy.. | |
| Franz Ferdinand – 40 Ft. Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| To answer Jeff- no, the UK uses imperial measurement, (IE Feet and pounds), the rest of the world minus the US uses Metric | |

Taken from the official site FAQ... What's the meaning of a certain song? The 11-tracks on the debut album 'Franz Ferdinand' reference escapism, love, loss, and intense emotion and passion amongst other feelings. Alex comments: "I think ambiguity is a good thing in pop music, because then the lyrics belong to the listener rather than the person who wrote them." We've annotated lyrics to the songs with notes about their meanings, so check out the lyrics and tabs section. |

| Franz Ferdinand – Michael Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Taken STRAIGHT from the official website- The lads of Franz Ferdinand seem a bit puzzled about all the fuss. Alex Kapranos has said he's a bit surprised that 'Michael' is the song people most want to ask about, since it's so straightforward. Alex: "It was one night when me and the band were out with friends from Glasgow, and we went to this warehouse dance party thing called Disco X. It was a very debauched night and these two friends got it together in a very sexy way." Michael (Kasparis): "I was a wee bit more drunk than everybody else and got up on a podium to dance. They thought it was hilarious and it inspired the song. The original lyrics were a lot less serious but they changed them when it came to recording." Michael plays himself in the video. "The little camp dance I do is just me. It wasn't choreographed. That's how I dance!" And no, none of the band are gay, and nor is Michael. So you can stop e-mailing us about that one now. |
