this song IS about a scientist and he creates a beautiful woman (in the lab) who he loves dearly, but he made a bit of a botch of things when he was making her and she didn't turn out perfect, so that's why he says 'come up and tell you i'm sorry', because he wants to apologize and go back to the start, because at the time he was just dabbling in science, as you do, but he knows this isn't possible. so he just watches her from a distance and thinks that it will be a shame when he dies and they have to part because he loves her so much. quite a sad and moving song, in part about regret and apologising, but also about love, and realising that you can't go back to the start, you can only go forward. |

Wow. I only read a few of the previous responses and this song really blows people away. I got goosebumps just reading the above messages. For all you people who love this song, this is the real meaning or what the song is about. It is about a real life story. It is about a Scientist, obviously, who creates a beautiful human being in a laboratory, while he was just pulling the puzzles apart, trying to see how human reproduction worked. He was successful in making her, but there were some little mistakes, and he feels bad for that, and apologises when he says..'Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry..Oh let's go back to the start'..but unfortunately neither he nor she can go back to the start. What was done, was done and now The Scientist and his Creation must live with what he did all those years ago. A very sad and moving song, mostly because it is all about the apology for what he did to another human being, all in the name of science. |

For all you people who love this song, here is the real meaning. Some of you are close with the drinking/hangover part. The song is about a young lady who is very special to a man who has known her right from a baby, ever since she was a little girl with Spanish eyes in a pram. He made her. Now that she is all grown up, she has been going out on a Friday night and getting drunk and running through the week-end to Sunday on her knees with hangovers and exhaustion. He says, 'In A Little While, Surely You'll Be Mine'...meaning that surely you will die soon and I will come home to collect you, because you belong to me. That is what the song is about. If you have heard of the Coldplay song 'The Scientist', listen to it as it is about the same two people and the same story. By the way, she's not dead, yet. |

Firstly, she is not calling herself a stupid ho, she is calling another girl a stupid ho, and that girl is a real person. Secondly, I have not seen the clip or Gwen Stefani, so i cannot comment on those two things, but i have heard the song played on the radio many times, and it is a cool tune, but personally i don't like the song very much as it has a tone of attacking the subject of the song. The song is about two girls. The first one is not Gwen. The first girl grew up in an amazing family and had a wonderful time there, and in some ways didn't see herself growing up. Then a dramatic event happened which changed her life and left her feeling on her own. So now she has to get on with her life, and the clock ticks away, while she seemingly does nothing with her life (but in actual fact, the girl is very happy with a quiet life at home with her partner, and being a homemaker like her Mum! and taking her days slow and doing whatever she pleases) but Gwen doesn't know that. Then she says take a chance and you might grow...meaning go after something, girl, and you might grow as a person, but the girl is content with her life and has plenty to do already. Then she says 'you're wigging out because of your sex chromosome' because the girl was born with faulty chromosomes that make her look a bit freaky, and so Gwen says she knows how it's stupid how society all think, meaning that if you look a bit different in society, it's easy to be stared at or ridiculed, but you should just get out there anyway. When she is out she looks at her watch because she is shy of people looking at her and thinking she is a freak, so its a nervous thing for her. And she doesn't think she's a super hot female, but she tries to have some confidence about herself. Then the part about Gwen, is when she says she cant wait to go back to Japan and get lots of new fans, because thats what makes her happy, and so she can't understand why this other girl doesn't want to do something new and out there aswell. That's why she keeps asking...what you waiting for? The girl has a bit of a wicked style of her own, at times, and so Gwen says to her..they are all waiting for your hot track...meaning...waiting for something new or something big from you...well perhaps she will, perhaps she won't...she might just be content. I guess only time will tell...if she doesn't perish first. So this is what the song is all about. I would love to know who wrote the words if anyone out there knows. |
