| Bran Van 3000 – Drinking in L.A. Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I seem to remember reading somewhere that this song is about people who move to LA to work on a movie script. When their scripts don't go anywhere or picked up, they just start hanging around and drinking, while talking about writing that one great script. | |
| Skunk Anansie – Selling Jesus Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I don't know if it is specifically about South Africa, but the song is more about how people use religion to control the masses, ie selling Jesus. They are using it to justify whatever they want, all the while they become richer. Basically about how people who sell Jesus are hypocrites who use there power to tell you what to do while they do something different. | |
| Fantômas – Spider Baby Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The funny thing is that this is the opening song on the movie, Spider Baby ( a really cool no-budget horror that is a cult movie in its own right). The original is sung by the movie's main actor Lon Cheney Jr, and this is an awesome version of the song. | |
| The Dresden Dolls – Mrs. O. Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Ignorance is bliss! They way I see it, Mrs O is trying to tell children that there is a world of wonder and magic unseen to the naked eye. However, it is unseen, so harder to believe. To make children happier and make them believe they live in a happy world, she tells the children that Hiroshima and the Holocaust never happened. However, the children can see pass this, and begin to question Mrs O. that if there was no Holocaust, how come there are the cremetoriums (heaven knows how they got into the fireplace or all alone to the palace where they took your only clothes). The children long for Mrs O to tell them that everything is going to be fine and the world is a great place, but they manage to see through her lies, even if they don't want to. Perhaps the best way to see this song is that is a transition period between youth and adult. Being younger means you still see things through the eyes of an innocent young child, but being older means that you see things in all their dark bleak glory. By the children asking Mrs O questions, even if they know the answers are false, they are trying to hold on to and maintain that innocence that they are growing out of. They know the Holocaust happened, and so did Hiroshima and Chernobyl, but they want to believe "the world is really all in love " |

| Manic Street Preachers – Ifwhiteamericatoldthetruthforonedayit'sworldwouldfallapart Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I think this song is about the way America (especially Republicans) use their "morality to justify their actions. The line "Who shall we choose for our morality" expresses the notion of America forcing its will upon others because they think they hold the moral high ground. However, the Manics expose this hypocracy with the line "Your idols speak so much of the abyss/ Yet your morals only run as deep as the surface" which shows that while the idols (leaders) are preaching about the end of the world and how they do what they do to prevent the world from slipping into chaos, the real reason behind it is their own personal agendas, ie the moralaity is just surface ie superficial. It is also interesting to look at how America has gotten involved in other countries mentioned in the song, and the song points out that America has its own problems (racial) that it choses to ignore. Perhaps a criticism on the instead of trying to fix everyone elses problem, try to fix your problems first. |

| Manic Street Preachers – P.C.P. Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This song is how people try use language to lessen the impact of events. IE its no longer a genocide, its ethnic cleansing. By changing the wording, it gives things new context to make them sound more acceptable. The song sounds anti-pc because they believe that the use of PC words lessens the impact, and makes them seem less disturbing. Pro-life is just another way of saying anti choice is a good example. Instead of saying the decision to take away the womans right to chose whether she wants an abortion or not, its called pro-life which sounds far more positive. This song is condemnation for such things. |

| Pearl Jam – Immortality Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I agree that this song seems to be about the plight of the native Americans, and how they were used and disgarded. | |
| Rammstein – Links 2 3 4 (English) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| the way i heard it, there was a famous german poem about how the heart beats on the left (ie anti-fascist, pro socialist and so on). rammstein took this poem as the basis for their song, saying their hearts belong on the left, even though people think they are right wing. | |
| Deftones – Lifter Lyrics | 20 years ago |

i interpret this song somewhat differently, and probably not what chino intended. but the way i see it, this is a song about a guy who is interested in girl who is dating another guy. the thing is, the guy who is dating the girl is older then her, as seen in the lines "been giving god, a peodophile". not that the man is a peodophile, but there is just a age difference. the guy soon doesnt become jealous of the man, but envious. he wants to be like him. older, better. his envy becomes an obsession, that the girl becomes a unimportant. not only is envious, he wants to be the man. there are hints that the man is abusive "every knuckle wiped into her" perhaps he is the stereotypical male, powerful strong, violent, and the narrator is insecure with who he is and he sees the man as the perfect male. h |

even though its about richy's battle with anorexia, i still think that it is written from the point of view of a girl. there is mentionings of depleting breast size : And I can feel my breasts are sinking also the line: Lift up my skirt my sex is gone further backs up the idea that it is a girl, unless richy was a crossdresser. |

| Manic Street Preachers – Archives of Pain Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This song is by far my fave on the holy bible it may not neccessarily be about capital punishment though. then song is more against the glorification of serial killers and the way society is both disgusted by them, as well as fascinated. the line: forget martyrs, remember victims means that that we should stop spending time on those who kill for their cause (the serial killers) and be more concerned for those who have died (the victims) the song starts off with another scary bit. it basically says that it doesnt matter who you are, you will be buried the same way as one who kills. this can also be interpreted that everyone has the tendency to kill as expressed in the lines: Don't be ashamed to slaughter The centre of humanity is cruelty the manics also have a cynical view on the topic of remorse: Any fool can regret yesterday perhaps they think that remorse is no reason to excuse actions. in this case, they would support a harder approach towards capital punishment, ie it doesnt matter what the person feels now, he must still be punished. Execution needed A bloody vessel for your peace - these lines show that we execute for closure. to feel that justice is done, the killer is executed. the manic do not pass any judgement, it is more of a statement. my favourite lines : Not punish less, rise the pain Sterilise rapists, all I preach is extinction these lines plus the lines if man makes death, death makes man shows a sort of constant cycle of violence (death makes man makes death makes man). the killer kills and we kill the killer. overall the song is condemning the killers, but also supports the notion that we can also become killers. there should be a way to distance ourselves from the killers, without glorifying them and making them heros. therefore, we must give them the respect they deserve, that is, no respect at all. |

| The Dresden Dolls – Sex Changes Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
the second interpetation of this song is about how sex can change a person after the deed is done. the song could be about an abortion. the ending of pittar patter bit. "but theres no money back once youve been ripped off." the line "you will get what you are asking without the right connection." when i listen to the song, it sounds like protection instead of connection. this would follow the idea of abortion and unsafe sex. the girl has now been exposed to the stigma. the neighbours talk, and she will be stuck with the whole episode for the rest of her life. the song is a tragic song. the girl in the song is probably very young. there is almost a motherly voice in some of the parts of the song, talking to the child. the brilliance is in how the song can tell two seperate stories in one way. interpretation is there, depending how you see it. |

| The Dresden Dolls – Sex Changes Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
This song is the best one outside of the album. it has a double meaning, two stories, that work well together and apart. the first one is a sex change. from this point of view, the song is about a person (most likely a woman) who wants to have a sex change. it is obvious that she is most likely a wreck, and emotionally confused "your life will be a never-ending circus of confusion" the reference to cutting her clock in the first stanza might be a reference to the biological clock associated with women, but that is my own interpretation. "the boys'll murder for it" = penis "it might be nice to look at - dont forget youre stuck with it tomorrow" - she has now gotten the change, admires the penis, but now she is stuck with her decision forever. and how you'd love to have a little thing with which to play - pretty obvious youll never hear the little pitter patter pitter patter of this little feat of engineering - no longer be able to have kids the girl falls into depression, starts cutting and so on |

| The Dresden Dolls – Missed Me Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
the song is about innocence lost. it is about young, naive girl, been taking advantage by an older man. the girl believes that the reason the man kisses her and screws her is because he loves her. she is unaware that the man is just using her. her train of thought follows this: if you kiss me mister you must think im pretty if you think so mister you must want to fuck me if you fuck me mister it must mean you love me if you love me mister you would never leave me it's as simple as can be! when the man leaves the girl, she is in a state of disbelief. the song follows her progression from sadness to anger. she cannot understand why the man who was really using her has left. she thought he loved her like she loved him. unable to see the truth, she grows angry at the man. not because he has used her, but rather because he has left her. the song shows how powerful sex can be, especially when it is used upon someone without an understanding for the emotions that go with sex. the girl was naive, and had an innocense that the man has now taken. unable to cope with this she does not know what her emotions mean. the line: it serves you right for kissing little girls but i will visit if you miss me shows that she might be older now and is bitter for what the man did to her. however, she is still not able to forget this man (he was her first time and all) and she still thinks that he might, no matter what, love her. that is perhaps the saddest part of the song |

| The Dresden Dolls – Coin-Operated Boy Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
i never thought of this song about being about a dildo, but listening to it again, i can sort of see it. however, when i listen to this song, i get the impression that the protagonist of this song is hurt and broken from past relationships. now she wants what she describes as the perfect man. one that will always love her, be there for her, not bring any complications, and do things for her. the boy is compared to a toy. a safety toy like a teddy bear. just like a safety toy, the coin operated boy will never leave her, and always be there for her. amanda is a genius. this song is very simple, and yet very deep at the same time |

| The Dresden Dolls – Bad Habit Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
best song on the album!!!!! for me, this song is definitely about cutting. i could go line by line analysis for this song. in fact.... it starts off with an attempt to escape from reality. "biting keeps your words away..." this stanza shows that the protagonist of the song is using pain to escape reality, and he/she finds comfort in the pain. the protoganist believes that the self-mutilation is actually helping her. she needs to cut to be able to function. in the third stanza, she describes the experience of cutting as an euphoric experience. "when i jab a sharpened object in choirs of angels seem to sing hymns of hate in memorandum" (also the best line in the song. it becomes a religious routine. she then begins to complain about the mundane of every day life. "bland accounts of two lovers meeting..." and so on. this re-enforcers her need to escape reality, by doing something outside the norm. the pain becomes more important then anything to her life. "that even if i quit there's not a chance in hell i'd stop". she admits that she can quit anytime, but she will keep on coming back to her pain. she has tried to stop, with bandages, vaseline and so on. however, by the end of the song, she realises it was all for nothing. this makes her fall into self-loathing and makes her want to hurt herself more. it becomes a cycle the song starts off as the protagonist tries to explain to people why she does what she does. but by the end of the song it becomes a plea. this song reminds my a lot of the smiths (adding to my love to it more) and is just downright brilliant. amandas power to mix poignant lyrics to poppy songs is amazing. |

| The Dresden Dolls – Gravity Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
great song. i get the feeling that this song is about forces out of our control. like gravity. no matter how much we try to control our lives, there are things that we just cannot control. i also get the impression that this song has got to do with appearance (some of us are getting lucky) and age. |
