| Excuse me while I cry fallchild9989. I love AFI, I love Davey, what you have shown me... makes so much sense. But it scares the shit out of me at the same time. In the chines zodaic, the snake eats the rabbit, even though they are quite compatable. so what does that mean? Does it mean that a snake is going to eat the rabbit? That some one to whom Davey thinks is a friend is going to end his life? And where does he think he's going to go if not to be reincarnated? It's all so sad and disheartening. Also ... not meaning to sound conceited by any means. But I have very strong , very freaky, day sha vu dreams ( You know, you dream it and it happens). I have some dreams involving murder, (Please don't think I'm psyco) and no matter what the theme, some dark haired man dies. He always has a rabbit on him( On his shirt, a tattoo on his hand, ect.). I never knew about the Sheakspears thing until now, but it makes sence. But I don't think it is derectly refering to it, I think Davey is singing about the feelings the play inspired in him. And also that he may not have read the play, but seen for i have read that Davey loves to go see plays, or its both. But most likely if I read the play I'd agree with the comparecen.(man i can't spell today) I think Davey is talking about how emotoinally cold he feels in the winter, how he longs for some one. I think most of us can relate. But this is only my opinoin. I love this song though, it's beautifuly written,played, and sung. Just another verse for Davey to haunt me with. -DRT- |

| I agree with thehollow, but i may now WHAT vampire he speaks of. I have heard Davey talk about Anne Rice, I beleave he has read some of her books(IF not ALL). I have read almost all of her Vampire Chronicals, and this whole line reminds me of her greatest charecter, the brat prince, The Vampire Lestat. This whole song seems to be Daveys veiw of what Lestat is or has done. Even the poem describes Lestat. I think he made it a hidden track because it would be harder for fans who have never read Anne Rice (for all her books tie together in some way) to understand it. As for the title, if one were to follow my meaning, then it is kind of ironical. But I like this song, the music kicks ass, we can all agree on that. -DRT- | |

| I like this cover as well, but to say it's better is pushing it. I know for a fact Davey is a huge fan of NIN, so even he would think, as I do, that it is impossible to make this song any better. Now I will say they made it different, in fact they cut out alot of the electronic sounds and Jade brought out the guitar so like theinskater said, it's alot heavier. Which kick major ass! As far as Davey's voice goes, I think he did a damn good job keeping the over all feel of the song but still bringing in his own... "pazaze" I think is the word. I agree with marcusrex, I beleave this song is about Davey's first exsperience with love and heart break. He met a person to whom he wanted so much, I think he even lost his virginaty to this person. (And I say person because it is a huge arguement wheither Davey is gay or not, honestly I think he's straight but to polite to deny a fan straight off. But it doesn't really matter does it.) Summer, I painted a scene..." This line I beleave he is saying that he created the right enviroment for his love too take place. This person was there. "Said,I can erase it for you..." In this line I beleave he is saying that he can change for what ever this person wants, as long as he can have them. "That summer created those words that came to life in three." The words are I LOVE YOU. What he means by this line is that before these events, before this "summer" that these words were just words and didn't have any meaning to him, until this person and these events. "They were denied by you." They didn't feel the same why, They didn't love Davey the way he loved them. All they wanted was what he could give them. "Summer I laid down below..." He laid with them, he had sex with them, or was about to. And he felt a personal joy, ecstasy, rapture, what ever you want to call it. He had sex with them. "I laid down by you and shared my frail light, You gave the dark to me." This line leads me to beleave that he is talking about losing his virginaty. He shared his light, his warmth, his body. And they took his innocence, for what is left after there is no more innocence but darkness. Also I think this is where he sees what this person is truelly like, a user. Now the whole chorus, or these next lines that are repeated, I beleave he discoveres that he was used. That he gave up his virginaty to the wrong person and wants to take it back, but he can't. And , like all boys, he likes sex. But he doesn't like what he feels. "Summmer, so pale, alone when they found me." Here I beleave it says that Daveys friends found out about him and this person, but this person was gone,leaving Davey to face them alone. "As I remainned sleeping I heard them say,'This summer created a boy of abject misery'" Here they tell him that this person hurt him, as they had warnned they would. His friends didn't like this person, they knew this person was trouble and told Davey as much, but he didn't, or couldn't listen. Now he is miserible. "He was designed by you." Davey knows this person hurt him, that all his misery was caused by this person's deciet. "So like a lost child.... So like a lost lie...." Here I beleave Davey says that he ran from all these things at first, but that he couldn't for long because it all came back to him no matter how hard he tried. That the lie between them of his pain came back to him. "Cover your eyes and we'll die together." Here he is telling this person, in the face of what they had done, that they have to face it together because "It take two to Tango", so to speak. "Will you cry for me?.... Or will you cry with me?" In this line Davey ask the person if they pity him or themselves, as Davey does. "I've been a lonely one...." Here Davey is telling us, the fans, that he hasn't had such relatoinships sense then, and that this person tainted his veiw of the world. "Am I the only one...." He's asking if any of us feel the same way. Davey is very sensitive to empathy, that's all he ever wants from his fans, after all. Then he repeats the first verse as if he is sadly thinking back on the whole thing. Well, it's kind of long but that's what I think this song means. It's sad, but kind of uplifting in a way. | My friend downloaded all these afi songs for me before I had the chance to get an album, and this song was on it. I was on the bus, quietly listening when I break out into uncontrlable laughter. But damnit she only got me half the song! But half is all ya need to laugh. I do what puppet does every time I see chicken. I start playing an air piano and singing this song. It can't be helped. As far as the meaning goes, there is none. I think they were just fucking around one day and Jade thought they needed a good laugh. I am soooooooo sorry. I leave my computer for two seconds and this is what happens. Sorry sky, but the Briteny spears thing is alittle much. As far as this song goes I always get this feeling of being in another world. You ever see that Japanime about Alexander the Great. There was this one episode where they were in the World wonder, The Hanging Gardens of athens or something, but the scene was drawn so beautifully. I can always see myself there when i here this song. Oh and by the way my brothers a complete dickhead who loves to torture me. I love AFI and would never say anything against them. ok,this is all my own opinoin, it can be as wrong as your's are right. But why do you all think it's about religoin. Like I've said in my other Afi interp's, Davey only uses religous icons as strickly metaphorical because he doesn't know any other way to say what he wants to say. He did go to cathlic school after all. Davey doesn't put religoin in his songs, he doesn't think it's nesacery. It isn't. Now about this song's meaning. This song is talking about loving a figure(person,animal,ect) that doesn't really exist. To obsess over it. And then the horrid realizatoin that this figure only existed on TV, or in a book, or in one's own dreams. the immportant thing is one realizes they only exist in the mind. And then the other horrid realizatoin that they have to go on living with out that figure. Innocent when it all first begain, scarred now as it ends. Davey truelly touched me when I heard this song. And, if nothing else then just to say it, I realize that this leaves it open so that one can argue that the figure could be a religous icon. I think Davey left it open for this reason, because this is most common. Davey doesn't want it to be any thing else then what WE the fans see it as.-DRT- |

| I have to agree with nonehugsarose. Infact, AP has an interveiw where they ask him,"Do you hate humanity?" His responce, "Yup, sure do." The simplicaty of his answer shows his sencerity. Then he goes on to say how and why he hates the world, no, not the World as a whole, but human kind, Davey likes nature. It saddens me though, for he says that it disgusts him how people who shouldn't have kids have alot of kids, and people who should don't because they couldn't stand the thought of bringing a child into the world. Now about the song, I beleave Davey broke his own rule about not being specific, but oh well,it's a good song regardless. But if I had to interpret it, then I'd say he's mocking parents. This is my alll time favorite AFI song, I can honestly say it made me fall in love with them. But I agree with coolkids07, this song can be interpreted as anything. To me though, it means he has, at least emotoinally, died. That the person who is undoubtably there is the cause of his 'death" but that he stills loves them, cause' he is allowing them to wittness it. The chorus says that it's not heaven or hell, it's nothing, and that hurt's him because he was hoping there would be somthing there. but now all he can do is find something to keep him going so he can heal, if at all possible. I cried when I got the meaning of this song, I had gone through something simular, but I think Davey had an easier time getting over it, or at least I hope so. | I've noticed that alot of poeple think Afi's song are relgous, not so. Davey's not relgous, any icon or term he uses from relgoin is just a metaphor cause' he doesn't know a better way to put it. He went to Cathlic scool up until high school so how could he. the only song he derectly talks about religoin is Prayer Positoin. But to get this song, and many others, you have to look at the album AOD as a whole, what they were trying to do with it. This song is from the point of veiw of fans, their deep love for Afi, their some times obsessoin.All Davey's saying is,"I know you love us I know how it feels, just be careful not to destroy yourselves." And the tone of the song is kind of angry, like even though he understands he thinks it's kind of silly. But you just have to think adout AOD. | I agree with havokxchid. this songs got nothing to do with stan or any religous icon. All it's saying is that one night Davey met someone to whom he really wanted to have a relatoinship with. No satan, infact Davey doesn't like religoins,ere go Prayer Positoin. But that's another song. In this one he has met some one who he really wants to have a long relatoinship with, friend, lover, whatever, small details. But it doesn't work out that way."And in the mornig, there is nothing left..." He feels like what they had was just like a one night stand or something. But here is where i beleave Davey makes a connectoin with his fans, he does that alot in AOD. It's like he's saying "Yeah I know how you guys feel when you don't get to spend the time with us that either of us would like." the chorus is just a group of personal metaphors he uses to say "Who am I to you?" either from his point of veiw or ours.
