--> i think the girl is still heartbroken or is still trying to recover from her last relationship. for some reason they broke up and she feels that she did something wrong or that she wasn't good enough, maybe that's why they broke up. maybe she felt inadequate in her last relationship. "The dawn is breaking A light shining through You're barely waking And I'm tangled up in you" --> now she found someone new and they're starting a new relationship. the guy is madly in love with her, but the girl is only starting to fall in love because she's afraid to love again and get hurt again. it could also mean that the guy is watching her sleep as the sun comes up, and he's fallen in love watching her sleep. "I'm open, your closed Where I'll follow you'll go I worry I won't see your face Light up again" --> the guy is eager and open to start their relationship, he's ready to get to know her. but the girl is reserved and closed. she's afraid to let someone love her and suddenly abandon her. she is still scarred from the past. but despite that, he's still by her side. the guy only wants to see her happy because he loves her, and he's worried he might not see the brightness her face brings when she's happy. "Even the best fall down sometimes Even the wrong words seem to rhyme Out of the doubt that fills my mind I somehow find you and I collide" --> the guy is trying to comfort her, saying even the best fall down, not everything in this world is perfect. everybody has imperfections. what one person sees as an imperfection might be a beautiful thing to another person (even the wrong words seem to rhyme). the guy knows the girl has imperfections, but he is still willing to love her. the word collide has a negative connotation. i think he's trying to say that they both have very different feelings towards one another. the guy has a strong affection for her, but on the other hand, the girl feels insecure about herself and thinks she shouldn't fall in love with another guy because of her past. hence, their feelings collide, they clash, they don't meet or match. "I'm quiet you know You make a first impression I've found I'm scared to know I'm always on your mind" --> this verse doesn't match with the beginning of the song. so i think this is the girl talking. again, she's quiet, reserved, and afraid to open up. maybe when they met, the guy did something crazy, so that maybe it will get her attention. and she's admitting that she's scared of what the guy feels for her. maybe what she is thinking is "no, you can't love me because i'm not good enough. im not perfect." "Even the best fall down sometimes Even the stars refuse to shine Out of the back you fall in time Somehow find you and I collide" --> this the guy again. he's saying i love you anyway despite of your imperfections. even the stars are not always perfect. everyone falls at a certain point in time. "Don't stop here I lost my place I'm close behind" --> the guy is saying don't stop, dont end this relationship, keep going. but the girl wants to let go, and the guy feels he's losing her already. but no matter what, he's there for her, still loving her. "Even the best fall down sometimes Even the wrong words seem to rhyme Out of the doubt that fills your mind You finally find you and I collide" --> it seems like both the guy and girl both have doubts. from the guy's point of view, he doubts or questions if this relationship that they have will ever work. and from the girl's point of view, she doubts that she will ever recover from her past. she is not sure if she can move on or let another guy into her life again. she finally realizes that they collide, they have different feelings. the guy is still ready and willing to love her, but the girl is afraid to love again. it's a bitter-sweet song. |
