This is a really good song. It's one of my favorites of all time. It's really obvious that this is a song about suicide, but it ends with a sense of redemption. "I laughed the loudest who'd have known?" - He was alway laughing and joking around so nobody would know how sad he really was" "I traced the cord back to the wall No wonder it was never plugged in at all" - He tried to electricute himself, but he forgot to plug in the socket "I took my time, I hurried up" - He is really sure whether he should do it or not, so he's hesitating "I never conquered, rarely came" - He never accomplishes what he sets out to do "16 just held such better days" - Life was easier when he was 16 "I couldnt wait til I got home To pass the time in my room alone" - This line could be interpreted a few ways, but I personally think that it is slightly sarcastic and he is saying that he doesn't want to be alone "Another six months I'll be unknown" - In about 6 months everyone will forgotten about him and his suicide "You'll never set foot in my room again You'll close it off, board it up" - Either means that his family won't go back in his room because they want to keep it how he left is or they won't be able to because the police will close it off for investigations "Remember the time I spilled the cup Of apple juice in the hall Please tell mom this is not her fault" - He's remembering something that he got in a fight about with his mom, and then tells her that she's not the reason he's committing suicide. "Tomorrow just holds such better days Days when I can still feel alive When I cant wait to get outside The world is wide, the time goes by" - He has decided not to kill himself and it beginning to look forward to the future |
