Sufjan Stevens – Come On! Feel the Illinoise! (Part 1: The World's Columbian Exposition; Part 2: Carl Sandburg Visits Me in a Dream) Lyrics 20 years ago
I love this song.

It's about the 1893 Worlds Fair (also called the World Columbian Exposition) held in Chicago. Cream of Wheat and the ferris wheel were first introduced there. As for the "what would Frank Lloyd Wright say?" line, he was an architect whose style was a depart from European influences. The exposition consisted of Romanesque, Greek, and Renaissance architecture.

I'm not quite sure of the 2nd part of the song yet. Any ideas?

Eskimo Joe – Seven Veils Lyrics 20 years ago
The following is a direct quote from an email from stu himself...

As for Seven Veils, it's a reference to a biblical tale of Salome, daughter of Herodias, who dances for her step-father, a dance involving the removal of seven
veils, revealing her, pretty much naked, body. Herod, her step father, is so pleased by her dance that he promises her anything she desires. After consulting
with her mother, she asks for John The Baptist's head on a plate, a man who Herod had imprisoned, but who was not to be killed, as he was greatly revered as a prophet. As he had made such an oath in front of all of his guests, Herod is forced to behead John The Baptist, and Salome's mother gets her wish. I guess the song itself is a metaphor for the games and politics involved in the bedroom.
