(and apparently it has) no second thoughts the knife is nearing you'll never hear the little pitter patter pitter patter of this little feat of engineering (abortion) “of course i love you and of course it's what's inside that matters but i think the whole charade is ending” (wife talking) (from this point on the lyrics could be considered to be coming from the narrator or the wife) it seems to me to be the only way to keep from getting caught up in a long life of regretting (devorce) (or referencing the abortion if it is the wife speaking) the doctors said that once you get a taste for it you'll keep on cutting (if their relationship stays as is another abortion wouldn’t be surprising)(it does not necessarily mean that they will listen to the doctor) but while you happen to be here why don't you whisper all those sweet forevers in my ear (wife or narrorator talking) stiff upper lip for all this sorrow hurry up and stick it in (wife or narrator saying "fuck me") you never when it will end tomorrow or tomorrow or tomorrow... (the cycle starts again) |

| while some people may see this as an obvious song about a relationship between 2 people, i think it's more specifically about trent and the founding members of NIN. even though they had adoring fans their friendships were so strained that they couldn’t take it any more and parted ways. (But underneath we're not so tough, And love is not enough) also, trent shows how hard it was for him to get back into writing after his battle with addiction. (I've gone all this fucking way, To wind up back at, back at the start...) thankfully this album shows that he's finally made a complete turn around … and creating amazing music once more :) | |
