First off, excellent song. To: lfc_73, you've got the literal side of the song spot on, except the ending. These lines: "My spirits are low in the depths of despair My lifeblood... ...spills over..." Suggest that the persona commits suicide. Emphasized by his fading consciousness shown with "...". Now, in a Romeo and Juliet like tragic ending, his dream is realised just after he takes his life. I would say it's safe to assume that those taking over are not the priests mentioned earlier, as they are referring to multiple planets. Although I guess this is still up in the air. I see it as an outside power taking control of the federation and most likely, in an tragic-ironic ending, plan to restore life to something similar of the personas dreams. Of course you still may be right, the last lines are quite vague, but I would say the fact that different styles of singing were used between the persona and the priests indicates that this third different voice must be from a source unseen earlier in the song. After all, it is often described as a ‘space opera’. To me this tragic-ironic ending fits very well with such a title. |
